Jervis Bay
Weekend away with Alicia in Jervis Bay, a few hours South of Sydney. Alicia kindly drove, and picked me up from mine just after 3pm on the Friday afternoon. The drive took just over 4 hours as there was a touch of traffic getting out of Sydney centre; the sat nav did take us through the Kangaroo Valley though, which was awesome to at least see from the drive. The apartment is in Erowal Bay, on a really quiet residential street and right on the water. It’s a fab, clean space and looks out onto the lake. We stopped for dinner on the way, at a Thai place called SilverSpoon in a retail park, and got to the apartment just after 8pm, in time for a cuppa and an hour of TV before bed.
Saturday we woke at 8am and headed out in the car to Hyams Beach and had a little stroll around there, and then hopped in the car over the Huskinson to get brekky. We had brunch at a cafe on the main strip called 5 Little Pigs, with coffee and a breakfast roll for me (egg, spinach, avo, chilli jam in a brioche bun - delish). We had a mooch about the shops/gift stores and I picked up my gift for secret santa at work (ceramic keepcup). We then hopped back in the car and drove to Callala Beach, which is a huge strip of white sand, to have a walk along the beach, to make the most of the dry weather as the forecast wasn’t great. The sun started to come out and we got warmer, and we walked there and back for about 1.5 hours. We then drove over to Sanctuary Point to check out that area and also grab another coffee, and found a really quiet little cafe called Barefoot Cafe just off the waters edge, so enjoyed so iced lattes in the sunshine. From there we headed back to the apartment as the sun was still out and we wanted to make to most of it, so decided to grab our swimmers. I went for a dip and it was actually pretty warm and good to get in and have a paddle, and the sun stayed out just long enough for us to have half an hour reading our books on the grass outside. The forecast clouds then rolled in, so we moved back inside and I dried off, before heading to the store (in the car, as it had started to rain) to grab some snacks to tide us over before dinner. So we’re currently enjoying a couple of hours sat on the veranda with our snacks, books and some tea; taking it slow before we head out to dinner - very peaceful!
We headed back to Huskinson for dinner, and enjoyed a happy hour cocktail on the main street before going to a Japanese restaurant for dinner where we ate A LOT of edamame and sushi, so delish. We then headed back for an early night and bed and ahead of Sunday.
I was up at 6am without the alarm, and had planned to go for a ‘sunrise’ dip, so I did a quick paddle out - although full-on-swim plans were thwarted when I saw a jellyfish in the water, as I didn’t feel comfortable in case I ran into more of them unknowingly. So it was a quick dip but still pleasant all the same as it was so tranquil there in the still water and the sun was still rising. Alicia I then did a hour or so walk locally, and saw wild kangaroos and a kookaburra!! We then packed up and headed in the car to Berry; a cute little town an hour back up North towards Sydney, where we got brekky (@ The Garden) & mooched about the cute gift stores. There was a pretty-well known bakery/cafe called The Berry Sourdough cafe that we couldn’t leave before trying, so got a sweet treat and final coffee before hitting the road for the final 2hr drive back to Sydney. All in all a lovely weekend away and got to see more of Aus!
