After 2 days in Oslo, we took an NSB train and headed towards the south of Norway to a coastal city called Kristiansand (see map below for those of you who don’t know where this is). There I spent my days walking through the city, visiting friends and getting a taste of the place.
Kristiansand, the 5th largest city in Norway, has 80,000+ inhabitants and is located in the south by the sea. It feels very much like a large, bustling coastal town. My friend showed me the city as I, the tourist, shamelessly took pictures of everything, tried beer flights, and ate awesome food. I also had a chance to go on a really refreshing run in the middle of the trip in this huge park behind my friend’s apartment, and the scenery was absolutely lovely.

As we walked, I drank lots of coffee (Norwegians usually take their coffee strong and black) from different cafes and reunited with many friends who lived in Kristiansand. I had met many of my Norwegian friends during my years at my previous organization, YWAM, on the Big Island of Hawaii between 2010-2014. It was great to be able to see them again in their hometown as it had been years since I had last seen some of them.
On my last day in Kristiansand, we sat in the city center, watching a free concert for adults, where a live cover band played classic and new popular songs. We scored seats at a nearby restaurant, which gave out warm blankets to its customers. Though that night was pretty windy, it was really fun listening to music, singing along to some of the songs, and occasionally catching people dance on the tables. We ended the evening wrapped in warm blankets, indulging on a dessert called “Oh My God”… which I what I literally said when it came out.
Needless to say, I had a really great time in Kristiansand. From eating great food, watching drunk people dance to live music, reuniting with old friends, and going on refreshing runs, I couldn’t have asked for a better time.
