Guest post: A prayer I say before every meal
This is a guest post from Nida, aka. That Grl in High Heels. It was first posted on her blog in December 2015 and explains how she came to pray before each meal. You can also follow her on twitter.
Food is something that we all need and if you are not as gluttonous as I am, you must get to eat it almost three times a day (in my case, it's more than three times, kidding!). When we stuff our mouth with the food (healthy or junk), we pass our judgement immediately and comment on it. In case of a delectable item in your plate, your comment or opinion would be counted as your gratitude, but what about when you don't find it tasty? Isn't it like cursing your own food? When we curse something, we automatically repel it and don't allow its abundance in our lives.
One day when I was sitting on the table to eat my food, a thought came in my mind and began to think about people who are deprived from basic necessities like food. At that time, I began to pray and then I develop the habit of saying that prayer before every meal.
Dear God, I am thankful for the food you have given me to eat. I value it and while I nourish my body with this food, I also remember those who lack it.
I say the above prayer and it instills in me a sense of thankfulness. Also, I have noted that saying this prayer renders me scores of benefits. It makes it easy for me to eat my meal even if it is not tasty, I control my portions and eat in an amount that is enough for my body and I enjoy my food more than ever.
I thought to share this with you guys, it may inspire you. I would like to encourage you to say this prayer and it will help you a lot and will bring a lot of abundance. Being thankful and remembering those who lack basic staples of life is also good for your spiritual health.
Thanks for cheese, Thanks for meat, Thanks for those with whom we eat, Those who hunger, those who shiver, Thank you God: You, too, deliver
A pizza prayer. This is fairly niche, but in the right situation, it’s a fantastic prayer to share.
“Be present at our table Lord Be here and everywhere adored These mercies bless, and grant that we May feast in paradise with Thee”
This version in amazing harmony, but beautiful sung simply too.
Bless the food before us, the family beside us, and the love between us
