not going to lie i HATE when something gets watered down in importance solely because you get money with it.
it's the "hobby vs profession" topic, "oh your job is making art/entertainment?" "yeah but you don't love doing it. it's for the money." while sort of praising whoever does it free of charge. it is not a reason of honor it's just something they do. i'm talking about this because i saw a post going on about how fanfic writers love what they do while leaving out original publishers, which i assume meant that they implied they dont love writing as much as fanfic writers. [i am not trying to go off on them but it got me thinking of this one topic and how it gets me heated.]
if you LOVE something, the one thing pulling you out from being an empty walking corpse, but you get money with it, it's still a passion. AND your lifeline, in more ways than one.
this also correlates to youtubers for me.
"ohh yeah but this person is monetizing their video, they're not genuine."
who's to say? why is the genuine wish to live a comfortable life with money so judged? isn't it reasonable since it has been getting fucked to get money in any kind of way? jobs CANNOT be found?
if you get the OPPORTUNITY to make money with doing what you love, you've hit the jackpot. the real difference would be what is their prime motive, if they continue regardless of how much money they make, remaining authentic to themselves. [but even this in the exclusion that they can actually afford to even continue what they love doing. everything has unfortunately a cost nowadays.] i genuinely cannot stand how some people now are so elitist and all-mighty in how unrelated people to them make money or also use their hobbies in more ways than one.
yet, despite this, those same people treat everything as a content farm anyway. just see how people now treat fanfic writers. which do things for free, too, something that people praised, made you a good person [ignoring the big elephant in the room that is not knowing them personally.]
as for my personal experience, I've been creating a story in my head for years, it has been my costant and my passion. will i try to share it or make money out of it?
why the fuck should i not? i already will try to bring it to life anyway where's the harm in trying?
and i bet maany others who did succeed felt like this. but then get those corny asf comments reading
"you monetized this, i thought you were genuine."
it's disrespectful to assume the authenticity of an original work solely because of the income that came with it, that is what i think. [and i want to be clear that I'm not defending whoever does art unauthentically, that's in my mere opinion idiotic.]
remember when people used to record low quality videos in their bedroom? or those commission artists that are at the beginning tho they already try to sell their art? if they do it to express themselves, without copying nobody, you reading this have no right to accuse their love for it.
