I’ve been preparing for this day across the last few months. Dropping hints, telling him directly. But until the actual day came, he apparently really didn’t understand.
You see, today I started the next phase of my new career and GASP! I had to leave home to go before my son woke up. He “slept in” till 7:30, and tried to find me all over the house. Then had to leave me a voicemail that he missed me and wanted me to pick him up from preschool.
Oh the curse/joy that is parenthood! I know I am trading off a small period of time now to have way more time with him later, but it can be hard to see it when a little person simply misses you.
So, I am going to wake him up and have an early breakfast with him so he can say goodbye to me. We’ll see if that will balance things out a bit.
For any parents going back into the workforce after staying home with their young children – be strong. Remember to keep perspective and balance in all things – balance your needs, your family needs with your child’s needs. Tap into that step back and be objective power for a few minutes when you need it to get through the rest of the day.
