Mutual pining was as sharp the double-edged sword. The sword carried by the Crown Prince bounced the light fixtures on the walls. You were not supposed to feel this way toward him and he was not supposed to reciprocate such silly emotions. It would only end in heartbreaks.
Flower garlands hugged the railings of the grand staircase. The murals on the ceiling of the ballroom were polished with great care. Coronation Day. Men, women and children of the royal and noble bloodlines mingled, exchanging real and fake pleasantries all around. The city was celebrating along. Fireworks, songs and cheers filled the joyous celebration. He was a good Crown Prince and would be an even better King.
Someone like you truly didn’t belong in the same place as him. Not when you were on the opposing side of the monarchy. Your unnamed outfit to blend in was dull compared to the branded suits and dresses twirling in the hall. Inconspicuous as you should be yet he always knew where you were. There was a glint of surprise in his eyes when he saw you, perhaps he never expected you to come to an event divorced from your stand.
You slipped away between the curtains and into the night, the city ahead of you was still alighted. You just had to see him. A hand wrapped around your arm tightly, voice tentatively resonated in the balcony, “You’re not here to assassinate me are you?” Not on his Coronation, you wouldn’t. It would be too easy and you were far too competitive to take the easy way out.
“Not at all, Your Majesty.”
And he smiled, so bright you thought you could hold the sun. You did and you gladly let the sun melt the wax holding your feathers together. “Please, I’m no King to you. Call me by name.”
“Yunho.”
