For the majority of their marriage, Valeria and Matias Vasquez were on their own. No children, just them. Together, they took over the Great Bear Lodge that Valeria’s family had owned for years in the Old Port district of Fordbay and continued expanding it and having it be a beautiful place for tourists to stay in the city. While sad they didn’t have kids, they were happy and in love and that’s what mattered most for them. However, that changed on their twentieth wedding anniversary when a doctor’s appointment turned into the big news that they were expecting a baby. Six months later, a beautiful baby girl they named Antonella, aka Tony, was brought into their lives and they were forever grateful.
Being the only child, Tony had a spoiled life, but she was very down to earth. She loved doing everything outside from fishing to camping, but was also skilled at dancing. She was always happy and could be found running around the lodge during weekends or breaks from school. In her words at the time, she felt like a princess and the lodge was her palace. She attended many weddings and parties there and loved meeting those from all over as they came to stay at the family business.
As a teenager, she was a little rebellious. While she worked at the lodge on weekends, Tony was known to sneak those in from school so they could swim in the lake or indoor pool in the winter months, or relax in the hot tubs. They would also have parties there when there weren’t that many guests in hopes that her parents wouldn’t know. While this worked sometimes, they definitely got caught as well and this would lead to Tony getting lectured and grounded a lot over the years she did it. Despite this, was actually decent at school and her dancing ability got her a scholarship to Simon Fraser University.
Her time at SFU was some of the best years of her life. She loved being so close to Vancouver and getting to enjoy the city life while also progressing her dance career. She made many friends and was one of the top dancers in her graduating class. Afterwards, she applied for some dance companies and performed all over Canada for several years before coming back to Vancouver and working as a choreographer. It was during this time that she met Nick Jennings. He was working at a local theater company and the two fell in love quickly; becoming basically obsessed with each other. Not long after, Tony found out she was pregnant and while she was excited, Nick wanted nothing to do with the baby and left.
Unsure what to do, Tony returned to Fordbay and was able to get a small home for herself before she welcomed a son that she named Santiago Matias Vasquez. She started working at Great Bear Lodge once again and has started a dance class in the lodge for guests or when there’s a wedding to set up the first dance. It’s been five years since she has come back and honestly, she’s happy to be home and raising her son in her hometown.
