It was difficult not to grin in response to this womanâs comment. Her reasoning was sound enough, if simple; in many ways, the princess herself even adopted similar justification for some of her own actions. But it was always more complicated than that, wasnât it?
As for her accusation⊠No, not a kingdom. An empire â though this future emperor would leave that detail out for now. Best not to aggravate her even further with any unwelcome attitude.
âVery well. I certainly wouldnât fault you for that alone. I was simply curious.â
She forced a straight face as she continued to speak. âA long way from my kingdom? Oh no, nothing of the sort. This is my academy uniform. Or it was, before I found myself here.â Clearly the mere concept of nobility was an uncomfortable topic. It wasnât surprising â Edelgard couldnât imagine that relations between those who were nobility and those who were not could be much better than they were in FĂłdlan, even in other worlds. âBut thatâs not important â donât let me keep you from more of your heroics.â
The soldier gave the young woman a self-satisfied smirk. Clearly, she was pleased with the reaction she got; no change in the white-haired girlâs calm demeanor to speak of, she was clearly confident in her own strength. That alone was respectable, even to the likes of Fordola.
âTch. As if I care about the details --- youâre a wealthy twat is the point. If I were you, Iâd try not to stand out so much.â Fordola then rolled her eyes and sighed as the girl mentioned her âheroicsâ. âYou really donât get it, do you? Nothing I do will ever make amends for all the blood Iâve shed.â There was such finality in her statement, but there was truth to it. How could anyone like her hope for more than a merciful death?Â
The redhead scowled --- clearly, this subject was touching a nerve. âIâm done with this conversation, if youâve naught else to offer me.â
