School Design Can Affect a Child's Learning

As educational planners and designers, we are witnessing profound changes in the delivery of education in our schools, as well as the ability of school facilities provide the environments for the 21st century. 

Today’s children come to school with a different set of skills and expectations than ever before. The landscape of school planning and design has changed and is continuing to change rapidly.

Three major trends the Foreman Group sees impacting the design of new buildings and re-inventing older ones are:

The impact of informational technology.

Traditional classroom buildings being replaced by multiple learning environments.

High performance schools and sustainability. 

Many studies have been completed regarding these changes in the classroom.

The University of Salford and Nightingale Associates completed a year long study with results showing that "well-designed classrooms can improve the academic performance of primary school pupils by 25 percent".

Nittany Village: Award Recipient Finalist 

Representatives from Foreman Architects Engineers (FAE) were honored to attend the First Annual Dauphin County Premier Project Awards Luncheon. The event honors members of the county and community who have demonstrated planning excellence and commitment to making Dauphin County a great place to live, work and visit.

FAE was chosen as an awards finalist for their Nittany Village project. The buildings are a privately owned student housing complex which serves the Penn State Harrisburg Campus.  Wohlsen Construction and GreenWorks Development worked with FAE on the completion of this project.

The awards were broken down into four categories: Community Capacity, Infrastructure, Sustainable Growth and Revitalization.
