Hey so. Sorry to bring up this subject again after the whole shitfest yesterday, but I feel like this is something the Osomatsu-san fandom at large should know about.

The actual Fujio Akatsuka Wiki was deleted by Fandom after attempts of vandalism and the people who harassed its owner into blanking it and basically erasing all of her internet presence are making their own under this address: akatsuka-fujio.fandom.com

The original was fujio-akatsuka.fandom.com. They even stole all of the images, templates and articles of the former wiki. If it being made by a harasser isn’t enough of a reason to avoid it, the person who made it is also a shоtacon who draws stuff such as kids as young as toddlers being molested, sometimes by animals. This person also doesn’t think anything of being friends with minors and will even draw kink art for them. I’m not liking to any of that for obvious reasons, but if you’d like to see proof of these claims, feel free to contact me privately.

As tempting as it might be to have information about Akatsuka works in English again, this person doesn’t deserve your attention. Don’t give them clicks or pageviews.

Kamen Rider X’s cameo appearance on a wall calendar in Ishinomori’s Inazuman manga! This appearance predates the television premiere of X by six months.

Tokiwasou Apartment is to be rebuilt in 2020 (2016)

the origin of manga, Tokiwasou Apartment used to be a famous atelier of the young manga artists in the postwar days was levelled because of aging in 1982.

Toshima Ward announced the restoration plan they will rebuild the building on near the original spot in Toshima. it is schedule to be completed in 2020 March.

legendary Osamu Tezuka, Fujio Akatsuka, Shotarou Ishinomori, Fujiko Fujio and the other five artists used live there together. Jiro Tsunoda and the other future important artists in manga/anime industry spent almost all their time at the apartment.

Tobay, there is a monument at the site of Tokiwasou.

I’m getting reports that there may have been an issue with Avex that was the reason the 2001 Cyborg 009 series took so long to get a DVD release again. Given the recent import ban on that company’s music coupled with Globe being one of its contracted artist performers for their record labels, I can believe that. 

The downside to this is What’s The Justice? and the songs made by the band may be omitted from the release. 

So this could limit the discs to just the CN/Sony Pictures dub, though Discotek is really trying hard to work out a deal as a fan on one of the anime forums asked Mike Toole of Discotek at Otakon if a dual language audio was possible and that was pretty much his reply. “We’re working on it.”

Don’t be even bigger morons Avex, just give us the uncut version and everything will go fine with money raining down on you.

In all honesty, I want the 2000 pitch reel short as a bonus feature.

You can let them know of the short’s existence and other potential materials in a tweet to them! Tbh, the OP/ED issues would not be a problem as long as the episodes’ footage are otherwise uncut, but it’s understandable that fans would want every piece of the show.

Here’s a Twitter post featuring a scene from Bokura Mangaka: Tokiwa-so Monogatari showing both Ishinomori running alongside with one of his own creations, Joe Shimamura AKA Cyborg 009. The caption in the image reads

Bokura Mangaka: Tokiwa-so Monogatari: (ぼくらマンガ家 トキワ荘物語) or We’re Manga Artists: The Tokiwa-so Story is a 1981 animated television special produced by Toei. Shotaro Ishinomori was one of the many noted tenants of the famous Tokiwa-so apartment complex, along with Fujio Akatsuka, Hideko Mizuno, Fujiko Fujio, Jirou Tsunoda, Hiroo Terada, among numerous others.

Many Tokiwa-so artists’ characters make cameo appearances in this special, as shown in this picture, including quite a few of Ishinomori’s characters! Some of his characters shown in illustration include:

Cyborg 009, 003, 006 and 001 from Cyborg 009

Kamen Rider Skyrider

Sarutobi Ecchan (with her Toei animated adaptation design)

Sabu and Ichi (in black-and-white, as they appeared in their Studio Zero animated adaptation) from Sabu to Ichi Torimonohikae

Chobin from Hoshi no Ko Chobin

Bonbon, Gonta and Zubi Zubi from Bonbon

A yellow duck, either Gaakou from Terebi Kozou or Gonbe from Donkikko

Robin from Rainbow Sentai Robin, Scarl/Skull from Cyborg 009 and Kamen Rider #1 are also listed as making appearances in the special, although they remain unseen here in this shot. At the time, the 009 character designs based upon Chou Ginga Densetsu/Legend of the Super Galaxy, as well of appearance of Skyrider both reflect the then-recent releases of these two series.

While information and pictures from this special are often hard to come by, it seems the special was given its first ever DVD-release as a bonus feature included in the 70th Anniversary Ishinomori DVD Box set.

Shotaro Ishinomori & Yume Kojo Dream Factory

Last year, video creator Gaijillion uploaded this fascinating video about the Communication Carnival Yume Kojo ’87, a grand spectacle event which showcased the latest in Japan’s technological advances while celebrating different cultures from all around the world. Gaijillion describes the making of Yume Kojo in full detail, covering everything from the development, planning and marketing leading up the event, to the mascot characters and individual events and pavilions, as well as answering the question behind the true inspiration behind the Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic video game by Nintendo, which was later adapted into Super Mario Bros 2/Super Mario USA.

Ishinomori’s contributions towards the Yume Kojo event make four appearances during the video;

The first mention, at around 5:00, describes Ishinomori’s visit to Brazil’s Carnaval festivities during March 1984 with Fuji TV executives Haruo Shikanai and Michiyasu Kawauchi, which gave inspiration for the elaborate and ambitious “Communication Carnival Yume Kojo” event realized three years later.

The second, at around 11:42, is a brief glimpse of a few pages from Ishinomori’s manga, “Imagineer Ishinomori Shotaro no Yume Kojo Nikki” (Imagineer Shotaro Ishinomori’s Dream Factory Diary) that he had drawn to chronicle his experience working on the event.

Ishinomori’s third mention arts at around 14:28 concerning the Amazing Matsuri Orochi exhibition, in which he oversaw this “revitalization of the heart of Japanese special effects”.

The fourth and final mention of Ishinomori comes at around 18:22, covering the lasting legacy of the event and the impact upon the lives and careers its contributors. After the event’s closure, Ishinomori continued his role in drawing manga and creating tokusatsu concepts until his passing in 1998.

Overall, this is one cool video to check out to learn about this once long-forgotten yet legendary festival with a legacy that left quite an impact on the world of technology, entertainment and culture, as well as video game history! Recently, Forbes’s Ollie Barder had the opportunity to interview the manga artist duo Akira Himekawa, well-known for their popular on-going The Legend of Zelda manga adaptations since 1999.

In this article, the two discuss some of their biggest influences, including a shared admiration for Ishinomori and his work. The two articles also mention how they made an initial connection with one another through the Cyborg 009 Fan Club.

Ishinomori himself created his own The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past comic which appeared in Nintendo Power magazine from 1992 to 1993 and  reprinted in 2015.

Sanrio x Hello Kitty x Ishinomaki x Ishinomori Collaboration!

This collaboration features cute designs with Kitty and her twin sister Mimi showcasing many of the various symbols, landmarks, costumes and items evocative of the Ishinomaki region. Sharp eyes can spot Kitty dressed as Shotaro Ishinomori’s Cyborg 003 sitting atop the Mangattan Museum’s iconic spaceship building!

The collection includes a face towel and a clear file folder adorned with the Hello Kitty/Ishinomaki designs, along with a rubber magnet of the Mangattan Museum building.

I have made a model, with a hope that the museum will be built to look something familiar. A museum built with playfulness and not some box-shaped building built by traditionally hard headed administratives. I understand that Ishinomaki was a city that dwelled on shipbuilding. Isn’t it fun to fantasize that a space ‘ship’ descended from Manga planet!? Take a look at the map of Nakaze from above. It looks surprisingly similar to Manhattan, New York, as many of you know was the center of world economy in the 20th century. Now, in the 21st century, intangible assets will become important. So, I say Manga. It shall be Mangattan! Since two years ago (*1995), we have decided upon ourselves to name this project ‘Mangattan Project.’ I am hoping that in the future, this Mangattan will be as exciting as a mini mini theme park. Now, enough said about the concept, the most important is the content. I not only wish to exhibit my original works but I hope for other Manga artists to come together to hold exhibitions and events. The museum will never stop progressing. It will never be complete. And most importantly, I hope for a place to extend Japanese culture (Just in case, I would like to make clear that I am not pointing at Manga) to children and the world; cultivate human resources; seeking opportunities for lifelong learning (Ishinomori carried out a joint study with the current Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on lifelong learning). If I could wish for one more, it is better to employ older people to promote welfare. To make long story short, I hope for a place where young children and old grandfathers and grandmothers can come and enjoy themselves. In the future, I would want to join the fun since, I plan to live in Tashirojima.

Tashirojima refers to the world-famous “Cat Island” off the coast of Ishinomaki, where Ishinomori and many other manga artists designed cat-shaped buildings and signage for the island.

We did hear about Discotekmedia’s acquisition of Cyborg 009, and we are happier than ever about that! Life has still got in our ways of continuing this blog regularly and there have been circumstances that are complicated to explain.

Oh but one thing that should be made clarified to our followers is that this blog was always a team effort from the start. You can imagine that if one part of this team, stopped being associated since of two years ago, it cut down on our schedule. Then, our lives got busier than ever before and it’s the way they have been.

There are questions about anything related to that and us that have been too personal to answer. Well then, really false things are then stated about this blog, and assigning of blame to names!

If you get down to it, none of that is ever really relevant to Ishinomori and what this was made for? Please understand that.

Do not continue hunting or scape-goating anyone about the blog, but do respect our right to privacy about subjects that are irrelevant to what we do. There is little time to update these days so time is precious, and it can’t be wasted on that. Be kind. Behave!

It has finally happened guys! The 2001 version of Cyborg 009 has finally been licensed by Discotek. Spread the word everywhere! If it sells well enough then they might license other Cyborg 009 stuff like the 1979 version.
