takes a puff from my angelcake joint. i have long debated and thought hard how it is that angelcake!val feels about sanji’s lady loving tendencies but to be honest she can’t really be jealous or anything because she simply knows that is who sanji is.

i guess a bit of her story but the thing she struggles with is moral injury and her resentment about it. angelcake!val was raised by gan fall a who’s strongest trait is compassion and it was something he taught to her and she took well to but when enel took her and forced to do things against her will she went back on her morals and played the part he demanded because she was scared to die. to her it was an act of cowardice and she kept doing what he demanded out of self preservation but also due to seeing it as punishment for failing gan fall.

sanji is many things but the biggest thing about him is that he has his morals and he won’t ever go against them. even if his life is in danger it doesn’t matter he has chosen how to live his life and he won’t ever break his word and angelcake!val is so very moved by that. that is what she tried to be so very hard early in life and failed. and sanji's way of being is very layered yes he does love women but he does keep the act of bending over backwards in part to prove his own usefulness to the people around him especially to women.

it is this that puts the angst in angelcake where ofc angelcake!val wants sanji to herself but because sanji for a majority of the story is in a place of unprocessed childhood trauma he isn't ready for the vulnerability that comes with being in a relationship. even this lady loving and desperate simp act is all he can offer anyone including her, and because angelcake!val is in love with him she accepts it. she would rather have some of his attention then none at all until he is ready for the real thing with her later on.....sorry if i didnt explain this right but i cant stop thinking of them....
