Summary: It's your turn to cancel plans with the group because you caught a cold, and Sakura doesn't hesitate to come through for you.
Word Count: 5k
A/N: Here we are! My favorite chapter so far!! This is a fun chapter because 1. I've wanted a reversal this entire fucking time, 2. I've wanted to introduce the cat for a while now, 3. this is part of the scene I've had planned from the start, and 4. because I raked myself over the coals for this chapter repeatedly. I hadn't anticipated the sick part being attached to lilacs, but I think it worked out well this way. Funny, the way that the thought that started this whole thing is at the tail end of an entirely different turn of events. We're past the halfway point for this story now!
My understanding of koi no yokan is that it's more than the simple translation of "premonition of love," or even the description of when you meet someone you feel like you could fall in love with one day. It's that you meet them and love does feel like an inevitability, it's about the potential. It still allows for love to be a choice. As far as I understand it, koi no yokan describes not only the feeling you get when you meet them, but then making the choice to walk down the path to loving them.
Big thanks to @owoasis and @kweenkatsuki-fics for encouraging me~
When your doorbell rings, you expect it to be Kakiuchi with your delivery from the market. The kitten scurries away at the sound, disappearing behind the television stand. Your head throbs when you stand, reminding you that youâre still not quite at a hundred percent, prompting you to slip on your mask. As you near the front door, muffled voices grow clearer, bickering from two people whose presence you hardly expected.
ââeven know weâre coming?â
âI sent the messâ Oh.â
âOh?â
âIt⊠didnât go through.â
The door opens and both Kotoha and Sakura look up from his phone like deer caught in headlights. As you tilt your head, trying to rationalize their visit, Kotoha straightens, her cheeks lifting under her mask as she raises the bag in her hand. Sakura flushes a deep red and youâre drawn to the two paper bags he carries, tucked in his arm.
âHow are you feeling?â she asks, eyes roving over your appearance, lingering on the confused crease between your brows.
Did Sakura intercept Kakiuchi to deliver your groceries himself? You tried telling the group you were feeling better, but did they not believe you? (The head cold has kept you mostly bedridden for the last sixty hours or so).
Your eyes drop to the bag she carries, plastic unlike the paper bags from the market. âBefore I answer: is that food?â
Her laugh is loud and warm and you want to nestle inside it. âIt is! Apparently you mentioned wanting food and needing more medicine.â
You did mention that, in the group chat between you, Suo, Nirei, and Sakura. Did⊠Did Sakura bring her along? To make you feel better?
A lump forms in your throat, your eyes growing hot with tears that you refuse to let fall. Clearing your throat, youâre annoyed that your voice still wavers. âI feel like I adore you both very much.â
Sakura tenses and you bet heâd hide his face in his hands right now if they werenât full. Kotoha, on the other hand, starts laughing, and you donât know whether she laughs at your evasive response or at Sakuraâs reaction.
âAll credit goes to Sakura, truth be told.â Her voice is light with laughter. âHe came to me asking if I could put something together to help you get over your cold. Ume also came in and asked about you when your shop was still closed.â
âOh, Sakura, you didnâtââ He never fails to surprise you, always finding new ways to leave you speechless. âThank you.â
Ducking his head, he tries to hide his blush, peeking at you through his fringe before grumbling, âJust want you to feel better.â
Rather than worry about the fluttering that threatens to set you alight, you move aside, welcoming them into your home. Kotoha enters first, glancing around before removing her shoes in your genkan. Sakura hesitates when he enters, eyes quickly assessing you before turning away, his mask keeping you from reading him completely.
âCanât believe he knew where you lived before I did,â she says as you lead them through the house. Glancing over your shoulder, you catch the way her attention shifts from Sakura to you. âYou two must be closer than I thought.â
âTo be fair, Sakura found out where I lived on the first night we met.â
Kotoha pauses in the mouth of your hallway, head turning to watch as Sakura enters your kitchen, moving with obvious familiarity. While he starts unloading the grocery bags, she follows, placing her bag to the right of your stove.
âI almost forgot about that,â Kotoha says. You lean against the entrance to the kitchen, watching as they move in tandem despite their differing goals. Is that from all the times Sakura was dragged into helping with Pothos and the orphanage? âHe just had to jump in and play superhero, right?â
âShaddup! You already gave me grief over that, didnât you?â
âLike you donât deserve it, still picking fights after so long.â She turns at your laugh, looking you up and down. âYou go sit down. I can figure out my way around your kitchen.â
âKotoha, Iâm feelingââ
âYou werenât feeling fine enough to open the shop today, were you?â
Clicking your tongue, you acquiesce, backing into your living room. âYou canât tell right now, but Iâm sticking my tongue at you.â
âDid you know that you grow childish when you get sick?â she asks, pulling a snicker from Sakura.
âSo Iâve been told.â
You perch on the edge of your sofa, leaning on the arm so you can watch them in the kitchen despite them being placed firmly behind the wall. After a minute of hearing nothing but the opening and closing of your cabinets and fridge, you grab your blanket from the opposite end of the couch, draping it over your lap before turning your television back on.
Movement captures your attention from the corner of your eye and you find Sakura approaching, concern etched in his features.
âNeed anything? Water or somethinâ?â
âYouâve already done enough.â He doesnât budge, staring at you like heâs waiting for your real answer. Such a small gesture threatens to unravel you, causing your breathing to hitch. A second passes, then another, and you keep your voice low in the hopes that you can hide the way it quivers. âYeah, water would be good.â
Thereâs a flash of appreciation behind his eyes, lifting the corners of his lips as he nods. Their voices go back and forth when he returns to the kitchen, tones turning combative as they chatter to the rhythm of Kotohaâs cooking.
Something sprouts in your chest, a seed that was planted about a year ago.
Your heartbeat quickens at the realization, that fluttering from earlier returning, something you havenât fully felt in years. Rather than simply bring you the groceries you neededâsomething he didnât even need to doâhe brought you a meal. Everyone else took your reassurances at face value, accepting when you told them youâd be fine. So whyâŠ?
Discomfort grows the closer you find yourself to the precipice of a revelation, and rather than sit with it, you decide to blame it on the discomfort of simply being tended toâitâs always been your job to care for others, not the other way around. The sensation shifts, pressing against your lungs and pinching your fingertips, though this discomfort is almost preferable.
Calling for the kitten, youâre surprised by the way they both grow silent, allowing you to hear the soft tup-tup-tup of paws coming down the hall. He appears, popping up on the right, jumping onto the arm of the couch before coming to you.
Sakura comes out of the kitchen with a glass of water, immediately zeroing in on the animal in your lap.
âThe hell is that?â
Both you and Kotoha start laughing, startling the kitten, and you hold him to keep him from bolting. âWhat does it look like?â
âI know itâs a cat,â he bites, putting the water on the coffee table instead of offering it to you, eyes never leaving the cat. âWhereâd it come from?â
âHe found me.â You smile to yourself as he pushes his head into your hand.
Sakura circles around the coffee table, giving the kitten a wide berth even though he joins you at the other end of the couch, the distance feeling greater than usual.
âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â
âHe kept coming to me over the past month or so, but he finally let me hold him about two weeks ago. Didnât I mention it in the group chat?â
Though he purrs, he keeps both golden eyes trained on Sakura, wide as they assess this apparent newcomer. Does he recognize Sakuraâs scent at all? Itâs not like heâs a stranger in your home. Sakura rests his hand on the couch, firmly between you two, a quiet invitation for the kitten without looking like heâs trying. Cute.
The cat keeps dancing back and forth on your lap, attention turning to the offered hand each time he faces Sakura. Finally, he ventures away, stretching his neck like he plans to run the second he gets a sniff.
âDoes it have a name?â
Satisfied with sniffing his hand, he tentatively slinks closer, rubbing his cheeks against Sakuraâs index finger, glancing up every few seconds. When Sakura lifts his hand, the kitten freezes before accepting it for what it isâan invitation for affection.
The pull of your lips is involuntary. âMm. Not yet. I havenât figured out what I want to call him.â
Scratching the kittenâs chin, the hint of a smile appears when the purring starts again. When Sakuraâs eyes flick up, that smile disappears. âYou let it in your house without giving it a name?â
âWell, I patched you up right outside without knowing yours.â
Kotohaâs laugh rings at the same time that Sakuraâs cheeks turn pink. âTh-Thatâs different.â
âCome to think of it, when he finally let me hold him, his paw was injured.â The kitten turns, waiting for Sakura to scratch his back, only to be left wanting. Dissatisfied, he returns to you, climbing onto your lap. Picking him up, you hold him out from you, looking between the kitten and Sakura. âMaybe you two are related.â
âHah?! The hell we are! Itâs a cat!â His once extended hand comes up as he points to you, indignation fueling his glare.
âYeah, but look!â Adjusting your hold on him, you show off his paws. âHe has little white mittens and golden eyes like yours andâ!â Bringing him to your chest, you gasp, pretending to be scandalized. âSakura!â
âWh-What?â His eyes flicker behind you and you figure Kotohaâs come into view.
âDid you have a child and not tell me?â
He chokes on his spit as Kotoha chokes on her laughter, more than enough to scare the kitten. He wriggles in your hold and you release him, joining her laughter.
âWh-Wh-What the hell? The hell possessed you to say somethinâ like that?!â
âIt does resemble him, huh?â Kotoha says, finally able to breathe again. She adopts fake disappointment, continuing the bit. âSakura. And I thought we were closer than that. You shouldâve told me.â
âI ainât got no kids!â He buries his face in his hands, leaning forward as his elbows come to rest on his knees. You honestly canât tell if heâs frustrated with you two for teasing him or disappointed in himself for allowing it to get this far. (He knows you two are incorrigible together).
âWhat do you think, Kotoha? Should we name him after his father?â
âI think thatâs a lovely idea,â she calls, moving back to the kitchen.
âThe hell you will!â He removes a hand, glowering at you when he does, though you feel the heat of his blush more than the heat of his glare. That he doesnât leave your sofa tells you he doesnât mind as much as heâs fronting.
âOh,â you breathe, leaning in, âbut Haruka is such a beautiful name.â
At that, he fully collapses, sinking into the corner of the sofa as he drapes his arm over his eyes. He groans, low and miserable while you snicker into your hand. Leaving him be, you take the water he fetched for you, listening to Kotoha as she works, inserting herself into your space as though sheâs always belonged.
âI didnât ask before, but whatâd you bring?â you call.
âI originally wanted to make egg congeeâitâs my go-toâbut Sakura said you like zosui.â
Oh.
In the winter, you mentioned missing your motherâs zosui. You never expected him to remember the throwaway comment. (And here you were teasing him relentlessly).
âYou didnât have to. Your egg congee sounds amazing.â Your heart thumps loudly behind your ribs as you watch him, the steady rise and fall of his chest as he keeps himself hidden.
âHe wanted me to put something together that would be easy to heat up, but got worried about burning it and asked me to come.â His arm shifts until heâs covering more of his face. âI donât mind âcause itâs you.â
âThank you, Kotoha. Thank you, Sakura.â
Though youâre tempted to pull at him, to encourage him to come out from hiding, something keeps you in place. Regardless, he seems to hear it nestled in your gratitude, pulling back enough for you to see his steel blue eye. He relaxes somewhat, though his lower lip still juts out ever so slightly.
âItâs nothinâ.â
âItâs everything. Thank you,â you repeat, low enough that only he hears.
His flush returns across his cheeks, but he doesnât look away.
âYou donât work today?â
âIâŠâ Sighing, he straightens, running his fingers through his hair. âI didnât work at the restaurant today, but I called out for tonight.â
Blood rushes behind your sternum and thereâs a distinct thunk as your heart hiccups. âYou didnât haveââ
âI know I didnât have to.â Itâs not a bite or anything remotely aggressive. Itâs a reassurance, a surefire way to nourish the sproutling in your heart. âI wanted to.â
Tears well up in your eyes and your vision turns blurry. Sakura jumps, not expecting such a reaction.
âWhatâd you do?â Kotoha asks behind you. When you turn, sheâs setting the pot on the table, immediately rounding on Sakura.
âI didnât do anything!â
âHe didnât do anything,â you reassure with a pitiful laugh. âI guess Iâm still a little extra weepy from the cold. You two are too nice to me.â
âNonsense. Weâre as nice as you deserve. Let us take care of you for once.â Disappearing into the kitchen, she reappears with a bowl, setting it on the table for you. Without saying anything more, she fills a bowl, waiting for you.
âYeah, okay.â Casting aside the blanket, you pick up the water as you make your way to the table.
Kotoha smiles that smile and youâre reminded of how welcoming she was when you first moved. It drops when she turns to Sakura and the change makes you want to laugh.
âYou. You can fetch your own dishware if youâre staying.â
âH-Hey. I wasnât asking you to make one for me.â Sakuraâs voice grows loud, defensive.
âYou arenât sticking around?â you ask, tearing yourself away from what you can only describe as a perfect bowl of zosui.
She sighs. âUnfortunately not. Unlike him, I have to work in a bit.â Stepping back, she turns her head toward the kitchen. âSakura, Iâm counting on you to take care of things. The medicine is on the counter and thereâs enough ingredients to make another batch for dinner. I left an easy to follow recipe on the fridge.â Her eyes narrow as she watches you, though her tone turns playful. âIf I donât see you at Pothos tomorrow, Iâm blaming him.â
Sakura scoffs as he comes out of the kitchen, bowl and spoon in hand, shooting her a glare as he passes her by. She takes you in again, worry scrunching her brows before it evaporates with your laugh.
âIâll be sure to get better so he can escape your ire.â
âDonât do it for him.â
âAlright, alright. Thank you for the food, Kotoha.â
With the energy of the room dying down, the kitten reappears in your periphery, skulking around the perimeter. Sakuraâs attention wavers from the food, waiting for you to eat first, a pout appearing when he spots the kitten.
âI expect updates on Sakuraâs son. Hopefully heâll have a name when you come visit me tomorrow.â Stepping into your kitchen again, she grabs her pack. âIâm off.â
Itâs not until Kotohaâs at least halfway down your hall that you finally give in and take your first bite, savoring the taste of your childhood. The first couple minutes are spent in silence, you far hungrier than you had thought. The television is a low murmur in the background and itâs only after you reach for a refill that you look up.
Sakura wanted to make sure you were okay. Thatâs why heâs here now, sitting across from you. You still donât know how he found out about your groceries, but he grabbed them, and Kotoha, and came by because he wanted to check on you. And he, what? Called out of work to sit with you? Endured your teasing unnecessarily? Remembered a comment you made in passing to do something incredibly thoughtful?
Warmth spreads across your chest and your heart stutters as your fingertips start aching for something that feels just barely out of reach.
He⊠Heâd do this for any of his friends. Youâve simply become one of many irreplaceable people in his life, a comforting thought in itself, butâŠ
âWhatâre you staring at?â
âHm? Oh.â You swallow, your eyes dropping as heat spreads across your cheeks. âI was just⊠Thank you, Sakura. It means a lot that you set this up.â
âYouâre not gonna start cryinâ on me again, are ya?â His voice is gentle, if not the least bit wary.
âNo. At least, I donât think so.â
âGood. I donât⊠I dunno how to be useful when you get like that.â
âYou donât need to be useful when I cry,â you chuckle. âItâs fine if youâre just there.â
âIf you say so.â He returns to his food, struggling to meet your eyes again. âEat up. Youâre not gonna get better if you let your food just sit there.â
This is growing dangerously close to something you donât know how to handle.
âOh, my. Who knew fatherhood would suit you so well? Worrying over me like this.â The pang beneath your ribs lessens and you breathe a little easier.
âCut that shit out. I ainât worryinâ over you âcause of fatherhood or some shit. I worry âbout you becauseââ Itâs instantaneous, his blush, completely engulfing him as he freezes, eyes growing wide before his brows furrow the way they do when he wants to blow it off. âI just worry about you, okay?!â
It wasnât too long ago that you told him the same thing in the same spot he sits now. Is that lost to him, or does it sit as clearly in his memory as it does yours?
âThank you.â To receive an iota of concern is something lovely in and of itself. Returning to your bowls, the silence is louder than it was minutes ago. After a beat, you ask, âWill you be sticking around?â
(You know his likely answer, but you need to hear it aloud).
âIâm not going anywhere till you tell me otherwise.â
âEven if I asked you to stay on my spare futon?â
Though not as intense, his blush returns, vibrant against his cheeks as he glares at you, pointing with his spoon. âDonâtâ Donât joke about that.â
âIâm sorry. I couldnât help myself. In that case, do you want to watch a movie or something? Is there a show youâd like to catch up on?â
His eyes flicker to the television. âNo. Donât really watch anything.â
âAh, thatâs right. Mr. Stoicism. Well then, would you mind if we watch one of my favorite movies?â
âNah, thatâs fine.â
Is he agreeing because he doesnât mind, or because he canât say no to you?
The question plagues you as you both finish the pot, as he cleans the table and you pull up the movie. The two of you take up the same positions on the couch, more relaxed than before. The kitten joins you as you stretch out and the opening score plays. Every now and then, Sakuraâs eyes flick to you and you tease him, telling him to watch the movie.
The kneading of the kitten on your chest lulls you into a state of peace, encouraging the heaviness of your eyes. Closing them for a moment turns into just a minute and you hear Sakura chuckle as you find yourself drifting off. Sleep is mostly restful nothingness punctuated by splotches of color that vaguely follow the scenes of the movie. What little dreams you have feature you and Sakura bickering over flowers in the voices of the actors. When he calls your name, tenderly, as though itâs something to be cherished, itâs in his voice. Itâs enough to pull you from your slumber, your heart responding to something not there.
The first thing you see is the kitten, curled up in the crook of his neck, white mittens hiding his face. Next is Sakura, eyes intent on the movie, seemingly enraptured by it. The kitten stretches, partially uncurling as his hind legs come out and Sakura immediately responds to the movement with a panicked expression, his right hand coming up as if expecting the kitten to fall, sighing when he doesnât.
Behind your ribs, something swells, some warmth that encourages the sproutling to bud. That warmth spreads across your chest, slow as it vines down your arms and across your cheeks. A memory sparks and youâre sure that seed was planted thenâyour name left his lips, wrapped in the surety of his voice, and part of you knew this would come.
You told yourself once: Sakura Haruka had the potential to be someone important in your life.
As you watch him, white lashes brushing against his cheek before revealing his golden eye, protective in his consideration of the cat that entrusted itself to your care, youâre sure of it. He turns his head, attention falling on you, and your heart squeezes with the acknowledgment of the path youâre choosing to walk.
It takes a second before he realizes youâre watching him right backâhis chest rises and doesnât fall, his lips part but no noise escapes, pink settles high on his cheeks. The two of you stare at each other for a minute and it isnât until your lungs begin to burn that you realize youâre holding your breath, too.
As you open your mouth, Sakura closes his eyes, brows pinching together. âDonâtâ Donât say it.â His words come out a little pained and you wonder whether heâs finally (somehow) cracked reading your mind.
âSay what?â
âDonât act like you donât know.â The kitten moves again, tucking his legs by his head and it serves only for Sakuraâs frown to deepen as his eyes screw tighter shut.
âI donât,â you laugh, suddenly sure heâs not aware of the way you were admiring his beauty.
He inhales, a slow build up to whatever he wants to say, only to exhale, releasing tension you didnât realize he was holding. Stormy blue and marbled gold search your face before he finally speaks. âDonât say that this is someâ someâ some kind of father-son bonding time. It ainât, okay?â
Your laugh comes without warning, bubbling from your lips unbidden, not loud enough to completely startle the kitten, but enough to rouse him from his slumber. A tired head pops up and looks around before settling on you, prompting him to rise, precariously perched on Sakuraâs shoulder until he hops down.
Sakura sulks, his eyebrows relaxing before he turns his face away, watching you from the peripheral. The kitten climbs onto your chest, reclaiming his earlier spot.
âWe should probably name him, huh?â you ask.
ââWe?ââ
âYouâre here, arenât you?â
âI guess.â
âWhat about Miso?â
âMiso? Youâre gonna name him after food?â Shifting, he rests his head in his left hand, propped up by the arm of the couch.
âOkay, fine. What would you name him?â
âTakeo.â His answer comes without hesitation, like heâs been mulling it over for more than the duration of this conversation.
âTakeo? Warrior? Really?â
âHe seems like a fighter.â
âAnd you say heâs not your son,â you tease, delighting in his quick scowl.
âShut up!â The tips of his ears go pink as he glares at you, leaving you both to watch each other for a couple minutes in silence. The kitten starts grooming himself, drawing Sakuraâs focus, and he asks, âHow old dâyou think he is?â
âOh, probably just a couple months. Definitely a spring baby.â
You watch as he turns over your answer in his mind, expression changing with his thoughtsâsouring before almost rolling his eyes. Again, he inhales like heâs ready to say something, only to let it escape on his exhale. And thenâ âWhat about Haru?â
âHaru?â Was he worried about the single character difference between Haru and Haruka in hiragana? It wouldnât surprise you if he was, if heâs expecting more teasing from you. Sure enough, your lips shape into a slow smile and he holds his breath. âAlright. Haru.â
His exhale comes out more like a pant, hot and a little disappointed, his eyes searching yours. âReally? Thatâs⊠Thatâs it?â
âIs there something wrong with Haru?â
âN-No. Nothinâ.â Shaking his head, he turns away from you, facing the television once more. âOkay. Haru.â
His ears remain pink for a while yet, even when he otherwise relaxes into the couch again for a different movie. While it plays, you find yourself drawn to him completely, enjoying his growing reactions to the film. As you watch him, you become certain of the flower that grows, protected by the cage that your ribs provide. Night falls outside, the room growing dark before you feel the need to flick on a light. When you feel the pangs of hunger, he hesitates at the idea of making zosui for you, even with Kotohaâs meticulous instructions, so you two settle on umeboshi onigiri.
As you finish eating, he looks around, turning the slightest bit melancholy. Part of you itches to ask why, to figure out what he sees and what he wants to change, but you bite your tongue, afraid of what he might say. Itâs funny, for as long as youâve known him, youâve never felt this wayâfearful of something that might change the delicate dynamic you two share. And yet, here you are, just afraid enough that it keeps you from asking a question you otherwise would.
Turning to you, his eyes flit across your face, lingering on your lips for a second too long. His lips part, and it almost looks as though he gathers courage with his inhale.
Perhaps youâre lucky and this change, this bloom, isnât exclusive to you.
âItâs gettinâ late. I shouldâŠâ
âYeah, okay.â You stand at the same time he does, watching as he looks around your home. âWhat time do you work tomorrow?â
ââM supposed to go in around one, but I might start earlier.â
âCome and visit Hanami before you do.â
His brows pinch in confusion. âWhat for?â
âI donât have a flower for you today.â
His eyes close as he huffs out a laugh, the sound coated in disbelief. âYou donât have to give me a flower every time, yâknow.â
âItâs a tradition at this point. Just⊠please?â Fresh lilacs should be getting delivered tomorrow morning. If you donât do this now, you might scare yourself out of walking this path.
Sighing, his eyes land on you when they open, uncharacteristically soft. It steals your breath and thereâs a subtle prick behind your sternum. âYeah, Iâll be there.â
You follow him to your door, lingering as he slips his shoes back on. (You can lie and say itâs to lock up after he leaves, but you know itâs something else entirely).
Sakura shoves his hand in his pocket when he turns to you, pink tinting his cheeks as he struggles to make eye contact. âI⊠We canâŠâ Pulling his hand out, you catch the unmistakable way it shapes around his phone, filling in the gaps before he can find the words.
âSakura, would you⊠could you call me on your way home?â
The seconds drag on when he looks up, his blush still present, and you feel the infinitesimal shift in the atmosphere.
âY-Yeah. Iâll call you.â
He leaves, more bashful than when he arrived, and your phone rings. The conversation is light, questions about the movies, about Haru, about the weddings lined up for the month. Your mind goes back to the minute revelations of the day, to the very deliberate choice youâre making, to everything that goes unspoken. Your earlier fear sticks to you like the stench of tobacco and nicotine sticking to the fingers of a smoker, but you werenât raised to let fear dictate your life.
The following morning, youâre inundated by a backlog of orders, not that you expected differently. Suo anticipates as much, arriving shortly after you open to offer what little help he can. He needles you for answers about the previous day, only to find you to be as forthcoming as he is (itâs been a year and you still donât know what he does for a living).
Sakura swings by a little before noon, eyes widening at Suoâs presence. His attention remains split between you and his friend. Suo dawdles, hovering in your periphery with a pleased grin until you kick him out of the shop with pink gerbera for his effort. Even still, he waits.
Your heart thunders in your chest when you go to find your lilacs, ringing in your ears when you find Sakura following. As soon as you spot the grouping, beautiful gradient coloration, you know itâs the one. Sakura comes to stand behind you when you move to your work desk and you canât tell if you feel hot from the message he wonât quite understand or if itâs simply his proximityâdoesnât really matter.
Before you turn, you contemplate telling him the truth of it, only to chicken out and say, âI⊠wanted to thank you.â
Turning, you find him waiting with an open palm, used to receiving your gifts. âYou already did.â
âNo, I meanâŠâ Shit. When you give him the purple lilacs, youâre careful not to touch him. Itâs difficult enough to even speak without the added stimuli. âYou came over yesterday. You called out from work to sit with me and make me feel better. You didnât need to do that for me.â
He waits for you to look at him, otherwise remaining frozen, and youâre surprised by the intensity in his eyes. âI wanted to.â
âI know. Thank you.â
The words sit on the tip of your tongue, waiting for life to be breathed into them, only to be swallowed. Making your way to the front of the shop, Suo still waits outside, smiling and waving to people as they pass by. He turns at the opening of the door, his grin widening at your deadpan. That smile falters when he sees the lilacs, fully aware of their significance. Instead of looking at you, he watches Sakura, eye scrutinizing him in a way youâve seen only once before.
âBefore you leave for work, could you let Kotoha know I wonât be able to stop by until after I close?â
âWhâ You canât stop by at lunch?â Sakuraâs nose scrunches in annoyance, but his voice lacks conviction.
âIâll probably be working through it.â
âFine.â
âOh, arenât you agreeable today?â Suo teases, eye dropping to the lilacs again. âYou wonât mind if I accompany you to Keisei Street, would you?â
âWh-Why? Donât you have somewhere else to be?!â Sakura asks, growing flustered as he marches toward Pothos.
âI think youâll be more forthcoming than our beloved florist.â Suo glances over his shoulder at you, leaving you to wonder what exactly it his heâs looking for.
At the very least, you can be sure that whatever Suo learns, heâll keep it to himself.

A quiet little whimper was all you could get out in response, the polished tip of his boot pressing just right against your clit. You'd been rutting against him for long enough that your thighs burned with the strain and your knees had to be raw from the floor.
He sighed above you. If not for the fact that he had allowed you this, allowed your naked body to settle by his feet while he read in his plush armchair, you might have felt ashamed.
Instead, you ground yourself down a little harder, rubbing your slick folds along the polished leather while nuzzling your head against his knee. You clutched his leg a little tighter, quietly wishing he'd shed a few layers to let you touch skin.
A breath later and cold metal dug into your cheek, the corvid-skull handle of his cane dragging along your skin until he could force your chin up. Zandik's narrowed eyes, still sharp and analytical despite the years, looked almost disgusted as he adjusted the monocle with his free hand.
Your stomach fluttered and a small moan wormed its way from your lips.
Zandik huffed and tapped your cheek once with the cane, a dull sound echoing through your jaw.
"Disgraceful."
But instead of putting a stop to your little ruts, Zandik grunted as he changed position to flex his foot, the toe of his boot pushing harder against your core.
You yelped at the sudden pressure, vision going white in a mixture of pleasure and pain. Before he could withdraw his cane, your lips wrapped around the metal and you suckled, gazing up at him through the haze of desire. Your movements grew a little bolder, dragging yourself along the leather until your clit bumped against the seam atop his arch.
"Don't suck on that-! Foolish little vixen." The scolding was mild but absolute, and Zandik pulled the cane away to instead whap your ass gently with the other end. There was no time to protest, two gloved fingers pushing past your lips and holding down your tongue.
Your spit soaked into the dark cotton, worn to protect delicate skin from the bitter cold without hindering what dexterity remained. Zandik pressed his shoe up more insistently, moving it slowly from side to side. The tip of his cane tapped your thigh, urging them apart as you continued to cling to his leg, hands knowing better than push your luck and reach for his belt.
"I'm only letting you have this so you'll finally settle and let me finish this chapter," he hissed out. Though his own breathing was clearly strained from holding back, you didn't doubt that he had no intention of giving you more than this.
Pleasure continued to build while Zandik rubbed the pads of his fingers against your tongue in time with the steady grind of his shoe. You moaned around the digits, fingers digging into his leg hard enough that it would probably bruise.
Every nerve was on fire, the judgemental look in his eye as he peered down at you only stoking the flames. His brow was tightly knit, the little crow's feet at the corners of his eyes more pronounced. You wanted to kiss him.
A sharp whap to your rear made your body jerk and attention snap back. Your hips picked up the pace they'd unwittingly lost and your toes curled.
"Don't you dare get distracted."
It stung, or at least it would tomorrow when the pain wasn't drowned out by your frantic pulse.
"One chance to find release. That's all you get."
You nodded eagerly, humping his shoe like a rabid animal while suckling on his fingers. It burned, every muscle screaming for a rest while your mind urged them on. Your movements grew less controlled and larger, every drag of your hips moving you far enough back that the edge of his sole pushed against your entrance.
With one last nudged from him, you body went taut as release washed over you, the sound of your broken cry around his fingers sounding far away while you rode out your high.
You could barely breathe when he withdrew his fingers, and your body slumped uselessly against his leg as he slowly pulled out his foot from between your legs.
A quiet sigh filled the silence between you.
"I should almost make you lick them clean yourself..." If not for the way you could see the little tent in his trousers, you might have thought him disappointed with your behaviour.
âI hate you.â The words drip from her bitten lips with all the venom she can muster; she bares her teeth in anguish as his hot tongue dances across her flesh, her fingers curling in the snow-dampened fur of his coat.
âI know,â he croons, cajoling his caged creature, marking her with spit and ichor. âBut I love you, anyway.â

Reo x reader, nsfw, fingering, PIV sex, kink negotiation/discussing of threesome (and possible cucking), reader has a pussy and breasts
You donât plan to bring it up when you do, your little fantasy. Truth be told, you donât know if you had planned to bring it up at all, ever. For as much as Reo dotes and fusses over Nagi at times, for the way youâll sometimes catch that relentless, heated gaze of his boring into his best friend like he could eat him alive, given the chance⊠thereâs still a nervousness that twists your stomach and weighs down your tongue when you think of asking Reo his thoughts on a threesome.
Tonight, though, youâre not sure if itâs alcohol that has you feeling loosened up, or if itâs the company you shared it withâReoâs attention was already overwhelming at times in its intensity, the sheer hunger in it, but then add his best friend to the mix? Even if it shifted some of your boyfriendâs focus off of you, divided now between his two favorite people⊠you didnât feel any less exposed, as Nagiâs dark, heavy gaze lingered in a way that made something electric course down your spine. And tonight, after a few drinks, his eyes werenât the only things that wandered.Â
You doubted Reo didnât notice. Thereâs no way he didnât. But he didnât say a word, didnât even seem too bothered as Nagiâs hands brushed your leg, resting too far up for just a friendly touch. At one point, he got grabbier, hand flexing as he gripped and kneaded at your thigh, your hip, and when your breath hitched? You almost could have sworn there was a flicker, the faintest ghost of a smirk. The minutest curl of his lips, there and gone, but the glint in his eyes remained. That curious, wanting look he sometimes got on the soccer pitch, like anything at all could be his if only he tried, and like he wanted to see just how much he could do. Like he was starving for it. Only this timeâŠ. The challenge wasnât getting through another teamâs defensive line or shooting a goal from a seemingly impossible position. This timeâŠ. His focus was on you. You were ReoâsâŠ. But neither of you were stopping him. From the way your breath caught or eyes flutteredâŠ. From the way youâd even lean into his touch sometimesâŠ. Nagi knew damn well. This was yet another challenge that would yield to him if he pushed at it.Â
You shiver to think of it even now, the way that dark gaze felt like it could swallow you upâŠ. The way you felt like youâd gladly let it. You feel off-balance as you get in the car to head home, unable to shake the way it had felt. The growing wetness between your legs has you torn between arousal and excitement and shame. Your boyfriend is sitting right there beside you, giving you that boyish, mischievous smile that never fails to make your tummy flip. But⊠he had seen it. He had watched Nagi touch you like you were his⊠and hadnât stopped it. So he couldnât have minded that much. Could it really be so wrong, the way your body was responding? The hot, pulsing need, the want that set every last nerve ending alight and left your body buzzing?Â
Now, Reo nuzzles at your neck between kisses, and you can hear your own sighs and shuddering breaths like an out of body experience as your mind wanders.Â
âYouâre distracted,â he murmurs in your ear, but his tone is a playful singsong. His teeth tug lightly on your earlobe. âStill a little drunk?âÂ
You meet his eyes.
âMaybe,â you fib. Can he see right through you? He probably can. He and Nagi had that in common, the ability to make you feel like your soul was laid bare when they looked at you a certain way. Exposed in a way that made you want to squirmâŠ. But that you couldnât quite bring yourself to run away fromâsome part of you craved it too much.Â
Reo nips at your neck, chuckling in satisfaction at the gasping noise you make. He busies himself with sucking a mark onto the sensitive skin, his pleased hum vibrating against your throat when you let out a whiny, shuddering sigh.
âYou had a good time, though?â He straightens up to look at you, keeping only the barest sliver of space between his face and yours.
âYeah,â you murmur against his lips, content for now to follow his lead. Your head is swimming too much to do much else. âHad a great time,â you add, and you can feel Reoâs smile as he steals another kiss. Ever greedy for more of you, as much as he can get.
âGood. I always want to see my baby happy.â
âMmhmm.â You give him a smile in return before laying your head against his chest. âYou think Seishiro had fun? He doesnât mind me hanging out with you guys?â You immediately curse yourself for blurting it out, hoping youâre not pressing your luck. Maybe the alcohol had loosened your tongue too much, blurring your inhibitions as well as your thoughts.
âYou know Nagi doesnât mind,â Reo answers with an easy smile. âHe likes having you around.â
âThatâs good,â you manage. Youâd gathered that much without Reo needing to say it. âDonât wanna make him feel like the third wheel.âÂ
Reoâs grin softens into something warm and pleased.Â
âNever,â he assures you before skimming his thumb over your cheek, eyes sweeping your features like heâs drinking you in.
âWhat?â
âAdmiring you,â he answers with a smirk. You sigh as his lips find yours again, trying to push thoughts of Nagi out of your head for now. It was silly, really. You were drunk, and you werenât thinking straight. That was it. Reo⊠was ever the doting, affectionate boyfriend. He adored you, and he never missed a chance to make it clear. And it definitely wasnât like he didnât satisfy you. Oh, did he ever. What else could you possibly need?
Itâs Reo, after all, who makes you laugh in his eagerness as he barely wants to stop kissing you to open the door. Who lays you down on the bed like something precious. Who leans over you with lust-hazed adoration in his eyes, pupils blown wide and dark, muscular arms caging you against silk sheets so you can see exactly how hours, days, months of careful soccer training have paid off.
He slots his leg between yours as he kisses you again, exhaling a pleased laugh as you moan and roll your hips up to chase the friction you crave. He moves with practiced ease, undressing you as heâs done so many times⊠and, like every time before, you shiver, not at the cool air that meets your bare skin, but at the way his gaze never wavers, eyes dragging over every new inch of your body as itâs revealed.
âGorgeous,â he murmurs against your skin. A kiss to your collarbone. âBeautiful.â Then each of your breasts. âSo perfect for meâŠâ Your stomach. Your lips part on a breathy, eager groan as his mouth trails lower. He presses a hot, lingering kiss to the sensitive skin of your inner thigh, responding with a pleased hum as your breath catches. He coaxes your legs apart, groaning softly at the sight of you, glistening with arousal. He drags a finger through your folds, and you shudder, exhaling a soft moan.
âReo!â you gasp, pleading, and he gives you a teasing, indulgent smile, wrapping his lips around his finger.
âSo sweet, baby,â he teases. âAll that for me?â
âDonât tease,â you murmur, and he relents. Reo works a finger inside you, lips curving in a playful, satisfied smirk as your breath catches on a soft groan.Â
âFeels good?â
You nod.
âReo⊠more,â you breathe out, and the words barely leave your lips before another finger joins the first, crooking and stretching inside you. Reo lived to spoil and indulge you, and this was no differentâhe adores the chance to make you feel good.
âAnything you want, baby,â he croons in a warm, honeyed tone, his warm breath fanning over your ear. You shiver. âDo you want more of me?â
âYesâŠ. Yes, please!â You moan as youâre rewarded with a third finger, as he takes his time stretching and prepping you to take him. âReo!â You whine impatiently, and he laughs.
âYou want more than just my fingers, huh?â
You nod.
âYes!â
âImpatient,â he coos, clicking his tongue at you with a wolfish grin.
âReoâ!â
He cuts off your next complaint by kissing you breathless, nipping playfully at your lip as he pulls away.
âI know, baby. Youâre so good. You want all of me?â
âPlease, ReoâŠâ
He kisses your forehead, then your nose, his hands moving to the zipper of his pants. He guides you back against the pillows, gaze adoring but still hungry. Your own eyes linger on his flushed, hardened length, tip already glistening with precum.
âAll right, baby. Iâve got you. You ready for me?â At your nod, he poises himself at your entrance, pushing in inch by inch. Your head tips back, lips falling open on a moan as you feel the familiar stretch. Your boyfriend pets your hair soothingly as you adjust to the fullness of his cock inside you.
âTaking me so well. Thatâs it,â he breathes, eyes half-lidded as he feels how tight and hot and perfect you are around him. He starts to move, the first shallow thrust making your breath catch before he finds a rhythm, effortlessly finding your sweet spots like so many times before. Youâve never felt unsatisfied with Reo, not once. He gives and he gives, sometimes almost smothering in his intensity, but truly dedicated to your pleasure. His hands are warm and certain as they map out your body, his mouth hot and perfect as he trails kisses down your neck, your breasts, every inch of skin he can find. Despite it all, your mind wanders again to other hands, large and far too bold, touching you in plain sight, even as your boyfriend watched.
âHey. You with me?â Reo pants out, and you meet his eyes.
âYeah,â you gasp out, cutting off with a moan as he gives a particularly deep thrust. âFuck, Reo!â
âYou sure?âÂ
âAhâŠ. I meanâŠ.â
âTell me, baby. Can tell me anything.â
âYouâŠ. Donât mindâŠ. When Seishiro touches me?â You pant out. Reoâs eyes glint, and he groans, hips snapping into yours almost mercilessly.
âMind? Only ifâŠ. Ah, if you do. I didnât know it bothered you, butââ
âI donât mind,â you tell him. Your nails dig into his shoulders, and he lets out a soft hiss of breath. He pants out a soft laugh, smirking down at you in amusement.
âDo you like it? Like⊠mm, fuck, youâre so tightâŠ. Like when he touches you?â
âYes!â You moan as your boyfriend punctuates the question with a hard thrust of his hips. Reo grins wickedly.
âNaughty lil thing. You like him touching youâŠ. In front of me?â
âMmhmm!â
âYou knew I could seeâŠ. Fuck, could see it. Him grabbing you⊠You still wanted it that bad?â
âFuck! Yes!âÂ
âFuck, babyâŠ. Killinâ me hereâŠ.â
âReoâŠâŠâ
âIâm here. Tell me what you need.â Itâs getting harder to think. Heat pools in your stomach, and your heels dig into Reoâs back as he keeps a relentless pace.
âWouldâŠ. Would you share me?âÂ
He moans at that.
âShare you? With Nagi?â
âLet himâŠ. Let him fuck me?â You gasp out, and Reoâs hips stutter.
âFuck, you mean it? Youâd want that?â He pants.
âPlease, baby?â You whine. Your legs tremble as you cling to Reo. You donât know how much longer youâll last.
âAsk me for it. Ask me and itâs yours, you know that.â His hand cups your cheek, tilting your face up to look at him. âYou want Nagi? Wanna fuck him, baby?âÂ
You moan. You canât believe youâre having this conversation. You especially canât believe youâre having it now. The searing heat in your gut flares again, flickering embers stoked to a crackling blaze.
âYes!â
âSay it.â
âWanna fuck Nagi,â you gasp.
âTell me.â Reoâs eyes burn with something fierce, something youâve often seen when heâs on the soccer pitch. His fingers dig into your hips as he slows his thrusts, stilling inside you despite your whines of protest.
âI wanna fuck your best friend!â You cry out, hips twitching in vain as you try to fuck yourself down onto his cock. Reoâs eyes roll back, and he grits his teeth.
âHoly shitâŠ.â
âReoâŠ..â you watch the way his eyebrows crease, the way he looks like heâs trying to hold on. He pulls out, just partially, before slamming back in with a rough thrust that makes your eyes roll back and rips a loud, gasping cry from your throat.
âShitâŠ.â He pants out again, breaths heavier. âYou donât know what that does to meâŠâ The words come out in almost a growl.
âYou like that? You want me to fuck⊠to fuck S-Seishiro?â
âBabyâŠ. Fuck, yeah, I want itâŠ.â
âCould both take me at once.â
âYeah? Youâd like that, both of us?â
âUh-huh!â You gasp, choked-off and breathy as the head of his cock seems to effortlessly find that perfect spot inside you, stroking it just right.
âWould you give him a turn, let him play with you?â
âJust⊠just Sei?â Your head swims.
âJust him, baby.â
âWhile you watch?â
âAhâŠ. Would you? For me?â
âY-Yeah. Bet heâsâŠ. So big,â you gasp out, and Reo pushes your legs up, angling his hips to fuck you even deeper. Youâre practically keening, moans gaining in pitch as he makes you see stars.
âThink heâd fill you up nice, baby? Wanna take his cock?â
âReo! Reo, holy fuck! Ohhh yes!â
âYou want him? Tell me you want him,â he gasps, and your hands scramble for purchase, nails scratching at your boyfriendâs back. He hisses softly, and you know heâll have marks there tomorrow.
âWantâŠ. Want S-Seishiro!â
âWanna seeâŠ. How good he fucks you?â
âYes!â Tears well in your eyes. âFuck, want him, wannaâŠ. See if he fucks me b-better!â
âFuck, baby, Iâm notâŠ. Gonna last, you keep talkinâ like that⊠more, tell me, what do you want him to do?â
âReo,â you gasp. âWhat if I want him to⊠to cum inside me?â
Reo groans, hips bucking as he buries himself in you with one last, sloppy thrust. You gasp out.
âDidâŠ.. did youâŠ. Cum from that?â You gasp. His lips meet yours, tongue and teeth and heat as he pants into your mouth. He reaches down, rubbing tight, almost frantic circles on your clit to push you over the edge, swallowing your whines and moans as you tremble through your release. Reo holds you close, your mingled breaths filling the space as you come back down from your highs. The look in his eyes is tender, adoring as he presses his lips to your forehead.
âBaby⊠Did you really mean all that?â His voice comes out husky.
âI did. Would you want that?â
âYou and Nagi? Both?â He kisses you again, groaning against your lips. âYou have no idea. It drives me crazy watching him touch you like he did tonight.â You smile.
âYeah?â
âYeah. Watching you get all worked up from it?â
âI was so wet from it,â you admit, and Reo groans again.
âItâs like youâre dying for round two, telling me things like that.â
âWho says Iâm not?â He kisses the top of your head, laughing fondly.
âAnything my baby wants,â he murmurs as he nuzzles into your hair. âAnd tomorrow?â
âMm?â
âI think Iâll have a nice little chat with Nagi.â
