âWell you donât seem to be doing a very good job of avoiding me, I swear itâs almost like you make a point to interrupt me.â She whined, arms loosely crossed over her midsection. Naturally she looked around in hopes that a certain man of far more interest would be nearby, but it seemed that she was destined to be disappointed once again.
âI was requested for this job. Any hinderance to you is merely a bonus.â Despite scanning the scene over several times, he struggled with finding any results. He gave a defeated huff, turning to face up at the reaper. âLetâs make this simple and quick than. You give me the info,â he began, motioning towards the reapers book. âAnd weâll both be on our way. Agreed?â Ten to one, the answer would be no, but for the sake of that one, he gave it a shot. His entire appearance was exhausted and he felt just the same. This once, he hoped for a little leeway, but expected just the opposite.

The warmth from the tea was defiantly soothing. It eased the horrible freeze she had gotten from being outside. Ciel, though, hadnât even moved it seemed. The tea still remained exactly where Sebastian had left it, making the girl wonder if he had already fallen asleep. She looked over at him as lightening flashed, then followed quickly by the roaring boom of the thunder, seeing him jump under the covers. Ciella herself would wince, but more from the startle than anything else.
Slowly standing to her feet, she quietly placed the cup beside the other on the nightstand, and went towards the large window. The curtains were still pulled back, the room lighting up completely for the few milliseconds the lightening lasted. It wouldnât do much, since the thick material couldnât block out the explosions like it blocked out the light, but it at least gave some sense of safety.
Once the room was completely dark, Ciella took in a deep breath trying to make it back to the nightstand to get her tea, but walking right into the bedâs footboard instead. Her hand slapped over her mouth, prevented the pained groan from escaping and waking her brother, if he had in fact fallen asleep.
Ciel felt the sudden shift in weight, followed by several soft pats of bare feet on solid ground. Peeking a single oculus from below the covers, he watched as a small figure made its way for the window. A luminous flash lit up behind it, causing a sinister shadow to occupy a large space of his wall, seeping farther onto the ceiling. Large eyes, staring in fear, only blinked again when the curtain was closed and the room was filled with solid darkness. The thunder continued to boom, causing his heart to jump with each noise. A single large breathe filled his lungs, holding it for several seconds before allowing its release. Relax. Calm.
Just a few seconds more and a sudden thump cause the bed to scarcely shift. The small earl bolted up, eyes searching for the source. He managed to make out a small shape at the foot of the bed. âCiella?â he called out to the dark in a hushed tone. âAre you okay?â No mind was payed to the next crash of thunder, seeming more focused on the well being of his sibling than his own fear. Pushing to his knees, he crawled to the end of the bed where he assumed his sister to be and proceeded to reach a hand out in search of her.

Grell grinned at the familiar scent in the air, one that sheâd grown surprisingly used to. Sheâd never understand why she had such a habit of running into that boy, but thought it best to simply accept it for the time being â he likely wouldnât be alive much longer anyway.Â
She turned her head back, watching and listening for a familiar approach of the Phantomhive boy. âDo you make a habit of walking into my work or is it just the strangest~ set of coincidences?â
The childs face scowled upon meeting the eyes of the red shinigami. He should have expected as much. Recently, it had become a common occurrence that the two happened upon each other. Each time being no more pleasant than the last. âBelieve you me, any chance of seeing you is no intention and preferably avoided,â he assured the elder, facing once again towards the crossed off crime scene. Alone he stood, examining the immediate details as his gears churned to piece them together.

Ciella looked over at her brother, a bit of a surprised look on her face. She had expected him to say it wasnât her fault, but not in the tone he used. That was the tone he used on Sebastian, or the other servants. With her, it was rather rare. Shaking the thought from her head, she simply said, âI hope you donât.â
Following Mey-Rin to the bathroom, she let everything drop from her shoulders, since it was all wet and had to be taken to be cleaned and dried. Once the corset on her dress was undone, it was easy to change out of the soaked clothes and into a cry, clean nightgown. Her hair was kept down to allow it to finish drying before going to bed later on.
Mey-Rin took her wet clothes shortly before Sebastian returned, Ciella sitting on the edge of the bed and smoothing out her night gown. âThank you, Sebastianâ the girl said as he served the tea. The heat from the tea was gladly welcomed, bringing the cup to her lips to take a small sip.
Sebastian was rather quick to exit with minimal parting words as the room filled with an eerie heavy silence. The continuous flashes of lightning were accompanied with a strong roar from the gods. The earls tea had been forgotten on his bedside table, still full and steaming. Had he even bothered to take one sip? The only sign of the blue haired child was a small lump cocooned beneath the puffy comforter. With each explosion, the small frame jolted before settling once more into its confines. One would think it simply startled him, but upon closer inspection the compact bulge of blanket shivered even in silence. This was more than a simple surprised reaction. This was fear. No. He couldnât succumb to such emotion. He refused. The female at his side was more important than natures yelling. She was to be protected, happy. The boys job was to ensure that. Perhaps if he feigned sleep, she would feel comfortable enough to follow suit. With eyes closed tight, he forced deep breathes. Calm. Fearless. CRASH. Another spark through the dark sky. Another jolt from the earl.

Plot Twist:
Edgar Allen Poe is Ciel Phantomhive

Although her hair still remained a bit damp, she already felt better than she had moments before. She finally began feeling warm again, what with all the layers that covered her; the dress, her own coat, one of Sebastianâs coats Ciel had gotten a hold of, and now the towel. Ciella nodded at his words, running her fingers over the soft towel. Hearing his words, she glanced up over at him. âCiel was only being a good brotherâ Ciella spoke. âIf either one of us becomes ill, it is because of me. I did not return once it began rainingâ He just went out to get me back inside before the storm worsened.â
Although her expression remained unreadable, her eyes showed a hint of worry among their already somber feel. If he managed to get sick after being in the rain for a short while, she would feel terrible about it. Ciel always was more prone to becoming ill than she was.
Sebastian left the towel around the boys shoulders, just as he had done Ciella, before standing once more. He offered a smile to the young lady. âI do not blame either of you,â he reassured. âI shall return in one moment.â On that note, he made a swift exit, off to fetch the maid.
As soon as the butler was out of the room Ciel spoke, âDo not blame yourself.â It came out as more of a command than he had hoped. He never wished to speak to her like a servant, but he did not want her to carry the weight of believing it was her fault. âI won't fall ill,â he promised in attempt to further assure his sibling.
Sebastian was quick to return with May-rin in tow and a change of clothes each. The maid ushered Ciella to the bathroom, leaving the other two in Cielâs room. As soon as the door closed, Sebastian set to work drying off the earl and dressing him again in clean clothes. It was a quick process and the boy was soon tucked in bed, awaiting Ciellaâs return. The butler disappeared with the wet articles, but not before announcing his return once the tea was prepared.
