wip sentences monday
The great and good @flyinghome-againstthewind has, in the last two weeks, tagged me twice to share some snippets of my WIP, and nothing but laziness has stopped me. So this is a hybrid seven sentence Sunday and wip Saturday I am calling wip sentences Monday.š
I AM writing! I know I promised a new story in January-ish but life had some other plans to start 2026, but I am still plodding along on my OL vet fic story when time allows. I'll start posting eventually and it should be sooner rather than later.
For now, enjoy this small excerpt. For reference, Honey is Claire's dog, and Jamie and Claire are texting about a dog they helped the day before. They only just exchanged phone numbers, thus the "unknown number" name on the texts. Enjoy! ā¤ļøš¶
When her phone vibrated against her desk just a minute later, Claire snatched it back up, thinking Jamie had already sent a reply. Instead, it was just a reminder text from the library that her checked out books were due back in two days. She spent the remainder of the afternoon frequently checking her phone, trying to ignore the increasing feeling of disappointment and, for some reason, embarrassment, that filled her every time she saw that he had not replied. He was probably just busy, Claire reasoned with herself. He had no obligation to respond, she reminded herself. And why did she even care that he did reply? They were barely even acquaintances.Ā So when her phone vibrated with a message hours later, as she and Honey were snuggled in bed, Honeyās snores lulling Claire to sleep as she was reading, Claire did not expect to see a message from Jamie.Ā 10:12pm, Unknown Number: <<Iām so glad to hear our girl is doing okay. I was thinking of her all day and am grateful for your text. It has eased my mind.>> 10:13pm, Unknown Number: <<sorry for the late text. I was swamped with things to catch up on today and wanted to make sure I didnāt reply with a hasty āthanks for letting me knowā and nothing else.>> 10:15pm, Unknown Number: <<It was a pleasure to see you in action, Dr. Beauchamp. Now that I have your number would it be okay if I occasionally reached out for a second opinion if I need one?>> Claire bit back a smile as she read his texts. Maybe their first encounter really was an anomaly.
