Piper laughed and shrugged, “I don’t know honestly, I got afraid and ran” she spoke truthfully. This was one of the only girls here that she trusted. “You and I are both in the dark as far as I’m concerned”
Azar gave a wry smile. “The dark is the best place to be. A lot can be accomplished there.”

Hmm. Okay this is mildly horrifying. He’s no mouse, so he can play along like it’s not such a big deal, but inside, he’s definitely getting wary of standing within knife-slicing distance of her.
“Oh yeah? Worse I ever did to someone in a car is kick ‘em in the gonads when he tried to cop a feel without payin’ me. I reckon you win.”
Azar couldn’t help the laugh that escaped. She hadn’t expected the kid to play along but he had. She’d let him slide this time. “Yeah, I usually win this one. Duck tape melts so he got out eventually. Never was quite the same after.”

“What kind of business?”
“Oh, the usual. I’m a traveling vacuum saleswoman. There was a hotspot in Texas that I just couldn’t pass up.”

“Anytime and really? Sounds like your kind of paradox. Well welcome back, can’t say we missed you. I mean the rest of the betas pretty much got a break from all the ass beating you do when you train them.”
“It was quite the adventure, I must say. And to be fair the ass beatings were more for their benefit than anything. Builds character,” Azar said with a grin.

So….. this chick was a bit mad. Noted.
He pulls a face. “Yeah, sounds like ya can bloody handle yerself alright. I mean, I wouldn’t wanna get on yer bad sad, that’s fer sure. Or the bloke with the fingernail peelin’. Sounds like hell.”
“It wasn’t very pleasant, no. I wouldn’t suggest it.” Azar wasn’t sure why he was still talking to this guy, although grossing him out was kind of fun.
She wondered how many weird things she could say with a straight face before he ran away. “One time this guy tried to hit me with his car so i followed him and knocked him out. Put him back in the car, duck-taped the doors shut and set it on fire.”

Piper recognized the women as soon as she came into view, she hadn’t seen her since her panic attack in the very open public and felt almost happy to see her. “Well, welcome back” she gave the girl a small smile
“I’m almost afraid to ask. How have things been?” Azar remembered her last encounter with the younger woman and was hoping to avoid a repeat.

“Don’t be a baby. Someone like you? I’m sure you’ve heard much worse.”

He snorts. “Not the best skill to have ‘round here, I reckon. Might wanna work on that, y’know, f’ya don’t wanna get shanked.”
“What’d you do, anyway?”
“A shanking’s not so bad. One time a guy tried to peel off my fingernails. So I peeled off his head. No big deal. I can handle myself.”

Cali sat on the floor of Azar’s tin can of a house, with Trigger dozing on her lap. At Azar’s voice, his tail thumped once, excitedly, but he didn’t move. The bags under Cali’s eyes were practically permanent now. “I thought you were dead. Should’ve known better.”
Azar scowled at the traitor dog and looked back at Cali. “You look like shit. Didn’t expect you to actually use this place.” Azar moved with a small limp as she made her way to her chair and slumped down ungracefully.

“People tend to want to kill me. I’m really good at pissing them off.”

“Oh please, keep the title. I’m just stating the truth. Where have you been? Vacation? Top secret work?”
“I will, thanks. Oh, I guess you could call it a working vacation.”

“I’m Roman.”
“I’ll let it slide this time. You’re new in town.”

He grins. “Probably not. I mean, I been here less than a year. Kinda new to the joint, really. I’m Chase.”
“I haven’t been here for that long either. Don’t like to stick around in one place. Gets risky.”

“Impeccable timing Azar. Although if I were you, I would have stayed where you were and never returned.”
“Oh come on. Being rude is my thing.”
