Learn about how our ancestors took piercings, tattoos, and body modifications of all kind and used them for their advantage in their every day life.
From self love, growth, identity, expression, and the creation of art - all the way to spirituality and religious purposes.
Welcome to Forgotten Traditions!
Our exhibition space based in the Chicagoland area aims to shed light and information based around the importance of body modification and it’s ancient traditions.
Like any tradition, the entirety of these tradition’s history, the many years humans have been practicing piercing, tattooing, and body modification, all goes to support it’s importance and influence all the way up to today. From ancient times through today, we have used this practice as a creative outlet of decorating the body, visually advertising art (the human body is a canvas!), self-express / identify oneself, a way to mark maturity and growth, as well as for spirituality and religion.
Whether you are looking into the industry of body art, or overall interested and/or supportive of body modifications - even if you are not fond at all! - these exhibitions will guide you from how body modification began, being one of the earliest forms of art, all the way to the professional, high-quality industry it has become today.
We will be addressing current societal standards and reputations of body modification, along with it’s history and all the fun bits of this industry through experiences you would not want to miss! If not for the art, come for the snacks!
Food and drinks will be provided, and safety precautions due to COVID will be set during each opening.
Join us throughout the many exhibitions to come - details will be posted!
Get to know us before planning your visit!
Setting up our space for these upcoming exhibitions will be our next exciting task.
Looking forward to seeing the work shared among this space - stay tuned!
