Cuba has announced economic reforms aimed at opening the economy to foreign investment and greater privatisation, while retaining state control in key industries for national development. Let’s be clear that they have not renounced socialism nor abandoned the role of the state in economic development. But I have seen many people decide that now, the Cuban revolution is over, it has failed, Cuba has given up and they’re capitalist now. And to that I say: grow up

It is imperative that we stay in solidarity with Cuba and continue to support their sovereignty as well as their development of socialism, even if the material circumstances have led them to make difficult decisions

It saddens me that this is necessary, but in the same way I do understand the necessity of the reforms, and this is a way that Cuba may be able to break the siege. Regardless, what they need is not childish and doomerist declarations of their “failure” from armchair Marxists outside the country. As always they need anti-imperialist solidarity and support and we should continue to give it

They have not given up on national sovereignty or socialism, that much is clear

I also want to mention that most news articles about it, at least the ones I’ve read, have not actually detailed the changes. Or if they do, they don’t mention anything about the role of the state. They have made it sound like Cuba has gone entirely into a capitalist restoration, which isn’t the case

Possibly this is intentional to give the illusion of failure and to make capitalism seem inevitable

Gulps,idk if this is the place to ask but I have been seeing a lot of people claiming that Fidel left Che died in Bolivia. Sorry if thiz isn't the place to ask but I'm genuinely curious🥹

It is the place to ask but Fidel did NOT do that. People have been spreading those rumours since the 60s but Fidel did everything he could to prevent Che’s death. He loved Che

The reason he couldn’t save Che was because the radio they were using to communicate broke, so Che couldn’t tell him where they were, what they needed, or anything like that. Then there’s the difficulty of getting anyone over the border to find Che and his guerrillas somewhere unknown in an entire country

And Che would not have left like that anyway. He always intended to win or die trying
