silver-eyed-victory:
“You know I can’t leave that easily. Even if we’re no longer a team, I was still your Team Leader and it’s my responsibility to bring you back. Whatever’s on your mind. Whatever’s eating at you. We can face this together. But right now, what you’re doing isn’t helping anyone.”
“I know I won’t be able to force you to come back. You always were stronger than me. But know that I’ll forever be chasing you down. I can’t let you do anything stupid. Believe me. My dad’s endless regrets about not chasing after my mom. They’re burned into my mind at this point. I won’t… let anything happen to you… or Yang. I don’t want this team to fall apart. I don’t want anyone to suffer anymore.”
It had been months, and she could tell Ruby had grown. The blind optimism was almost infuriating, because Blake could not begin to understand its depth. All that made sense to her was how the world was curling in on itself in violence. Stronger Grimm threatened every village and kingdom, and infighting destroyed alliances and families. The White Fang was running rampant and she couldn’t even face them. She was running home, at last, the stray returned to her people.
“You best leave easily. Go home, Ruby. Your family is the only thing you have left in this world when all is said and done. Forget about me and how much damage I’ve done to your sister. I know it’s my fault!” Blake’s voice rose. Her hand was on Gambol Shroud. Even in the further area of the dock, they were visible. Blake needed to calm down.
But after the tirade from a child, she couldn’t. “We’re not a team anymore, Ruby. This isn’t a game anymore, not a story where we get to win. This is real. Yang nearly died. I nearly died. Pyrrha is dead! There’s a cost. And I am not worth you dying on another continent when your sister doesn’t care at all about me. I was just a partner - she can get another. What will she do if you die because you stupidly decided that chasing me down was more important than your own blood?”
