the thing about lando is. in 9 out of 10 cases he’s #1 shooter for your favourite guy. he is constantly waxing poetic about oscar. he thinks max is one of the best to ever do it, and he thinks lewis is probably The Best to ever do it. he has gone on a podcast to say one of his first karting memories is delight and disbelief that he got to drive against george russell. he had a poster of alex albon in his bedroom. carlando speaks for itself. all he ever does is giggle about how charles makes his life difficult on track. he is constantly and transparently giddy about racing these guys. unmatched capacity for fanboyism, it’s one of the most compelling and endearing things about him.

It's almost midnight when there is a soft click of the lock from the front door of your hotel room. The exact time is long lost on you somewhere between the third room service and the unending rows of now indistinguishable lines floating before you. You let the Kindle fall face down on the bed, giving up on the impossible. 

Your head pops out of the blanket burrito you'd dug yourself under just in time to catch your boyfriend round the corner, shrugging off his coat on the vanity chair. 

When your eyes lock, a cheeky grin curls on his lips. Lando momentarily drops himself on the bed, careful to avoid crushing your legs as he presses a kiss to your forehead. “You told me you were going to sleep early, love. Change of plans?”

You roll over to fully face him as he stalks toward the jug of water on the coffee table, pouring into two glasses. Outwardly, he seems fine, but look a little closer and you'd find the wisps of exhaustion clinging to him relentlessly. Hours spent with cameras and microphones shoved in your face will do that to a person. Unfortunately, media duties are not an obligation he can weasel his way out of.

“I tried to,” you mumble into the fuzzy quiet of the dimly lit room, accepting the glass he hands you. “Don't think the jet lag was ever this bad.”

“And I'm sure the two bowls of ice cream and chocolate covered strawberries aren’t helping.” Lando gestures for you to scoot over, curling around your body but on top of the blankets. “What flavors did you get?”

You glance up at him sheepishly before you down the water, having been more dehydrated than you realized. “Mango and coffee.”

He looks at you incredulously. “Yeah, baby, you're on a sugar high alright.”

“I was hungry, okay? And the menu was sitting right there. Looking delicious, seducing me!” 

“Sure it was, darling.” Lando snorts as he settles lower into the bed, leaning on the headboard. 

You pick up your head for him to put his arm underneath, nuzzling into the warmth radiating off him despite the cold outside. Times like these you count it a blessing that he likes to wear so many layers. 

The restlessness had crept up on you the moment you’d landed—quiet, persistent, almost smug in the way it refused to let your body settle. You aren't built for this constant shuffling of time zones the way Lando is. He lives his life in perpetual motion, his internal clock seemingly glued together by adrenaline, routine, and a frightening number of energy drinks.

But you? You only tag along for a handful of races each season, dipping in and out of the traveling circus, never quite giving your body the chance to adapt.

So even when you’d excused yourself early—kissed Lando goodbye before he left for media rounds, promised yourself you’d conk out the second you got to the hotel—you’d only managed to stare at the ceiling. Then the wall clock. Then your phone.

The hours blurred, your mind buzzing despite the heaviness in your limbs. You want to be here, want to support him, want to show up without looking like the walking dead… but to no avail.

“You look like a sleepy owl. Ruffled feathers and the whole bit,” he exhales through a laugh, his fingers tangling into your hair. He runs them along your scalp, massaging the dull throb aching there.

“Owls don't sleep at night,” you grumble, trying to muster a glare that falls flat as you melt instantly. 

“Mhm. A raccoon, then.”

You slap a hand against his chest, folding into him after. “Insulting me isn’t helping, Lan. I genuinely can't sleep!”

Lando chuckles, cold fingers brushing over your eyelids as they flutter shut. “You can. You're tired and you just need someone incredibly handsome to hold you through it.”

“So why are you here?” You peel one eye open, unamused.

He lets out an indignant scoff. “I see how it is, woman.” He makes a show of trying to tug himself free for your clutches. “Fine, how about you run to those fictional men you love so much since I'm apparently not up to the standards?”

“Nooo, don't go,” you can't help the laughter that spills out of you and you hold on even tighter, unleashing a barrage of kisses onto the underside of his jaw. “You're definitely high up on the list, sweetheart.”

Lando only gives you a mock glare, gaze squinted. “How high?”

You free one hand to cup his face, thumb tracing over his cheekbones as your lips finally meet. It feels like comfort and ecstasy all at once, like every puzzle piece clicks into its perfect place. He smiles into the kiss as he drags you on top of him and you place your arms around his neck, heartbeats falling into an identical rhythm.

“Definitely top five,” you say, pulling back just enough to breathe.

The reaction is immediate, a hand on his chest as he lets out a dramatic squawk, flipping you on your side only to dig his hands on the most ticklish parts of your body. “Top five! Me, your very lovable and very sweet boyfriend, whose card you've been using to order ice cream at eleven in the night by the way, is below Roman or whatever the fuck his name is?!”

“You can't– compete with Rowan Whitethorn, baby! He's literally– a Fae royalty!” You manage between bursts of shrieking laughter. 

Lando pauses mid–tickle attack when your giggles taper into weary little hiccups, his fingers loosening their hold like he suddenly remembers you’re made of something fragile. He drops back onto the bed with a huff—dramatic, pouty, absolutely over the top.

"Top five,” he mutters again under his breath, crossing his arms like a petulant child denied a toy. “I’m literally right here. Warm. Alive. And she picks the weird words on pages instead.”

You flop onto your stomach, resting your head on his lap as you catch your breath. “Aw, is my lovebug sulking?”

“Absolutely not,” he replies instantly, chin jutting out stubbornly. “You can go and ride off into sunset with him for all I care.”

You can’t help the fond smile tugging at your lips as you shift closer, wrapping an arm around his middle. “Lando?”

“Nope. Don’t try to sweet-talk me now. Not after you demoted me below a fictional dude who can’t even pay for your ice cream.”

“He’s the immortal king of Terrasen. He doesn’t need money— Actually that's besides the point.” You lift your head, cupping his jaw gently, softening your voice until it’s something molten. “Baby…”

His grumpy façade cracks almost instantly. Not that he ever stood a fighting chance.

“You know you're my number one,” you whisper. “Always. Even if I tease. Even if I’m delirious from jet lag. Even if Rowan can turn into a hawk, and has knives and poetic trauma going for him.”

Lando tries to hold onto the pout, but the corner of his mouth betrays him with a twitch. “Poetic trauma?”

“Yeah, real moving stuff. But still not you.”

He exhales slowly, like the day's tension coiled in his shoulders is lifting as he tucks you back into his chest, chin resting on top of your head. “Good. Because I’d be really offended if I lost my girlfriend to some… bird… man.”

You laugh against him, but the sound comes out softer now—threadbare with exhaustion. His thumb strokes absent circles along your neck, grounding.

“Tell me about your day?” you mumble into his hoodie, voice muffled and thick.

He hums, letting his hand drift lazily down your back as he starts talking. “Well… media was long. Like… long long. Lots of questions about the mechanical upgrades and the modifications for next year. Oh, someone almost broke my nose with a mic—felt like I was being attacked by a furry animal.”

You snort a sleepy laugh, "How dare they."

“Right? And then there was some sponsor video we needed to film. The PR team thought it’d be fun to have us do a rapid-fire quiz thing even though I hadn’t eaten since… I don’t know. Breakfast? Maybe. So you can imagine how out of it I really was.”

His words begin to blend together in a low, soothing cadence—warm, familiar Lando babble. You try to respond, you really do, but your limbs go heavy where they curl into him, and your breath evens out without your permission.

Lando pauses when he realizes you haven’t reacted in a full thirty seconds. He angles his head down… only to find you out like a light, snuggled into him, eyelashes grazing on your flushed cheeks and mouth slightly parted.

"Figured,” he whispers, a smile blooming soft and helpless.

Lando presses a gentle kiss to your forehead, thumb brushing the curve of your cheek as if memorizing your peace. Carefully—so carefully—he lifts the blanket you’d cocooned yourself in and tucks it around you properly.

“Sleep well, baby. Goodnight.”

He slips out from under you with the precision of a man traipsing through a minefield, tiptoeing across the room to change into a worn pair of sweats and one of his oversized shirts.

When he returns, he turns off the lamp and the golden glow recedes into pitch black. Lando slides into bed beside you again, instantly drawing you back into his arms like gravity itself pulls you together. He lets out a sigh, content at last by your side.

Within minutes, he’s out too, yet the feeling of a happiness tailored just for him follows Lando into the next morning.

zooming out and looking at lando's career results so far in their entirety is so compelling to me, like i've done it many times, and it's been the basis for my faith in him all year long. there is a clear maturation of both himself as a driver, the team, and the car, all ramping up to 2025's tremendous run of form.

his rookie year was rough with DNFs (pink), often out of the points (purple), as the car was nowhere and he was still finding his feet, but by his second year, he had a podium and was very consistently in the points (green). he spent those formative years in the midfield, bringing in points without often getting on the podium.

he had his moments even then, like he nearly had the win at monza 2021, and he was so close to a win at sochi 2021 too, earning his first pole position, but it wasn't his time yet. he spent 2022 delivering solid points while his teammate struggled, he was consistent. he helped advance mclaren up the standings, developing the car, on the cusp of the next level.

it all took a backwards turn early 2023 with the roughest patch of his career since 2019, the car wasn't quick, but they fixed it. things came together at silverstone, and haven't truly slid back since. the rest of that year had six p2s (silver) and one p3 (bronze). it all pointed towards him being ready for his first win (gold), which he got early the next year.

he had four wins and nine other podiums in 2024, ending up second in the wdc and leading the team to winning the first constructors in a very long time, a season protagonist. this year has followed on that path, with some struggles, but the team have been unbelievably dominant. despite all his issues, so far he's been on the podium at sixteen circuits, winning six times.

there's a very clear trajectory here, a story visible in the data that i've followed closely in real time, the rise of a team, a car, and a driver all together. he's no longer the funny boy he was when he signed, so talented and so young; he's learned so much and developed into a man who is writing his name in the record books, his win count climbing up among the legends of the sport.

he doesn't care about his legacy allegedly, but i do, and he has a story of struggle and success that is far from over. if you know anything about the ten years he's driven single seaters, seven of which have been honing his craft on the f1 grid, i think you cannot deem him unworthy of his achievements this year. i cannot wait to see where he goes from here :)

a/n this ended up being a lot more sappy than i thought it would

Lando was a big family man, that was no secret. Spending a lot of time away from home did weigh on him most of the time, though he usually had you by his side to quell some of his loneliness. Though he couldn’t deny that sometimes all he wanted was to be in the presence of his lovely family. 

So for his birthday you knew it was a no-brainer really. You had to go back to Somerset and make sure he felt as loved as possible. 

There was no hiding your plan from him. As soon as you mentioned flying out to England after the race in Vegas, he knew exactly what was happening. He hadn’t stopped beaming since the flights had been booked. You knew him too well, almost scarily so. It was one of the reasons he adored you as much as he did. That adoration seemed to be a Norris trait as he wasn’t the only one. 

His tiny nieces loved you, potentially more than they loved him. Watching you talk to them and join in on their crazy games, it made his chest flutter. You appeared to be in your element. There was no way he could deny the thoughts he was having right now. Of you hopefully sometime in the future, with a few little ones that looked like the perfect mix of you and him. It excited him in a way he wasn’t sure he could explain. 

Ultimately, you did grow tired. But the 2 girls were happy to continue playing on their own. Besides, you had a boyfriend to question about the look on his face. You could have sworn you literally saw his eyes sparkle at one point.

You joined him in the armchair where he was seated, molding into the space in his lap like it had been handcrafted for you. Which he would argue it had. 

“What are you smirking at?” 

Usually when he got that look on his face it meant he was up to no good. That was never a good thing when you were in his childhood home, surrounded by his entire family. His arms snaked around your waist, cheek resting against your temple. He was acting like he was innocent. As though his thoughts hadn’t briefly turned impure. His voice was barely above a whisper. “Just love how good you are with kids. Was thinking about having our own one day.”

His words did catch you off guard. It wasn’t like you hadn’t talked about it. You were in a serious, long-term relationship, both creeping closer to your 30’s by the day. It came up from time to time in late night or drunken talks about your futures. You just didn’t expect him to bring it up now and so casually at that. 

“Oh, really?”

He hummed. “A mini you, all smart and angelic. Maybe a mini me, with the crazy hair and awkward laugh.”

You frowned. “I love your laugh.” You loved everything about him. You truly were gone for him. ‘Down bad’ as his sister had once taught you. The idea of a small child, half you, half Lando, it made you think. In a good way. A way that should have scared you. 

There was a beat of silence before you tucked yourself further into his arms. Your head was now tucked just under his chin, your body melting like butter into his own. You just let yourself be held by the man you loved. 

“Your kid would be a nightmare. Probably wouldn’t ever stop talking– or telling awful jokes.”

You were only teasing. They were all part of the things that made him Lando. He brushed over your playful torment though, already feeling far too sappy to joke. 

“Our kid.”

And your heart jumped at that. 

“And if you wanted we could get started, like, ASAP.”

There it was. He could never be sappy for too long. You giggled. None of that would be having under this roof, with his entire family present, that was for sure. 

“You know you’re supposed to be here to see us.” His older brother’s voice briefly pulled his attention away from you. Usually quite a difficult task. “Let the girl breathe for 5 minutes.” His cheeks burned with embarrassment now everyone was looking at him. At the two of you cuddling in Adam’s favourite chair. If only they’d known what he’d been whispering just seconds before. 

Eventually he shrugged his shoulders without shame. “Can’t a man just be hopelessly in love with his girlfriend?”

His sister rolled her eyes. “Not in front of us, thank you.” Flo barely flinched when he stuck his tongue out at her. Sometimes you forgot he was 25 years old.

Lando was never one to lose a teasing war to his sisters. “You think the whispering’s bad, wait till we start kissing.” The overdramatic gagging noises were like music to his ears.  As the family laughed and joked with one another, you couldn’t help but picture how it could be different in the future with a couple new additions. Your family. Yours and Lando’s. Maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea after all.

The dark lit flat had never felt this lonely before. Your thoughts of self-doubt rush through your head. It's the fifth time he's done this.

Kept you worried. Messages left unopened for hours.

The door quietly creaked open, a guilty looking Lando stepping in.

"You're late, again. I left you many texts and I even called you. You didn't answer any single one." Your tone was disappointed, desperate.

"I know, I know. I'm sorry I saw them, I just couldn't reply." He sighed, exhaustion evident in his voice "Training ran long, then I had sim work after."

You met his eyes, voice low "We've had this conversation countless times before Lando, I understand that you're busy but you never reply, you're always 'too busy', Do you know what that feels like to sit here worried, wondering where you are?"

"I told you, I'm at training or in the sim, that's where I am." He replies softly. Almost defensive yet calm.

You laughed bitterly, under your breath. "Always training, at least that's what you're telling me."

He lifts his head, tired eyes narrowing slightly. 'What's that supposed to mean?"

You shrug. "Nothing. Just... It's funny how you're unreachable until midnight. Almost like you don't want me to know what you're actually doing." feigning casual but your voice was shaky.

He exhaled sharply, disappointment in his tone, "Come on. Don't do that. You know exactly what I'm doing."

"Do I? Because from where I'm standing, all I see is you choosing racing over me, every single time."

Lando ran a hand through his hair, a trace of frustration in his voice.

"I'm not choosing racing over you, Y/N. This is my career. I'm trying to keep us stable, keep my seat, keep my future. Doesn't that matter to you?"

"What matters to me is having a boyfriend who actually shows up before I fall asleep, Who actually answers me when I'm worried sick."

He shook his head, scoffing "So now I'm the bad guy because I work too hard?"

"No! Because you make me feel like I don't exist. That's the part you don't get!" You snapped.

"And you don't get that this is what it takes. You want me to just walk away from everything I've worked for?" His voice was sharper now.

"I never asked you to walk away. I just wanted you to meet me halfway." You stared at him, hurt, desperate.  

He uttered, quiet but cutting “Halfway isn’t enough in this job. It's all or nothing.”

“Then where does that leave me?” tears brimmed your eyes.

“I don’t know, but you think I’m never enough. No matter what I do.”

“No. It leaves me feeling like I'll never come first. Not once. “

A heavy silence sits between the two of you. The distance feeling louder than the words.

“I just… don’t know how much longer I can keep waiting like this. It feels like I don’t exist until you walk through that door.” You whispered.

“I thought you understood. I’m trying to build something– for us. And instead of trust all I get is doubt.”

“And all I get is loneliness.” A tear slid down your cheek.

He looked at you. Not angry. Just Tired. Disappointed. Like you both knew where this was going to end. “Yeah well maybe we’re not what each other needs right now.”

“Yeah…” You nodded slowly, wiping your cheek “maybe we’re not.”

Silence filled the room again. No shouting, no begging– just the quiet breaking of something that’s been fragile for too long.

You walk inside the cafe Lando asked you to meet him at. Slipping in the quiet corner, you sat to face him.

“What do you want, Lando?” You started. Careful, guarded.

“I wasn’t even sure if you’d agree to meet me but I had to try.” 

“It’s been a year.” Your tone was flat.

He nods, eyes down “Yeah. A year of me trying to convince myself I could live without you.” he pauses, voice breaking slightly. “Turns out I can’t.”

You exhale, torn between anger and the ache of still caring. The silence between the two was thick with all the things unsaid. “You made your choice. Racing. Long nights. You don’t get to walk back in like nothing happened.”

“I know. I don’t expect for your forgiveness, and I don’t expect a second chance. I just need you to know that I was wrong. I thought I could give everything to racing and still keep you waiting on the sidelines. But without you, all of it– every win, every podium. It means nothing.” His tone was genuine and heart-felt.

You were conflicted. You still loved him, but the memory of the long nights of waiting for him were ingrained in your mind. “Do you have any idea how much it hurt? Wondering if I was ever enough for you?” You uttered. Voice almost breaking.

“You were always enough, I was the one who wasn’t.” He leaned forward. “I thought I was doing all of it for us but all I did was push you away.” You studied him, he was the same man, but different. More tired. More real.

“And what now? You think you can just say sorry and I’ll come running back?” your voice was trembling. 

He shook his head “I’m not here to make you run back Y/N. I’m here because I’ll run to you this time. No more excuses. No more putting you second. I’m serious about you Y/N, I can’t do this without you. 

Your heart warmed. You hated yourself for wanting to give in.

“I don’t know if I can trust you not to break me again.”

Lando reached across the table. “Then let me spend the rest of my life proving it. No matter what it takes to show you how much I love you.”

The cafe hums slowly. Filled with the hope of two people who would do anything for each other.

You’d never thought the sound of engines could make your heart race and ache at the same time. The roar from the crowd was deafening while bright neon smoke swirled through the air, flags waved, and chants of “Lando! Lando!” echoed like thunder through Silverstone. 

You’d been to more races than you could count now, but you were always hidden away in a quiet corner of the McLaren motorhome or tucked in a private box where no camera would ever linger too long. 

But this race felt different. Maybe, it was because it was your first time at Silverstone, maybe because it was his home race.

Or maybe it was because you were five months pregnant with his child.

Your hand rested instinctively on the small bump beneath your oversized hoodie. It wasn’t invisible anymore. The soft curves had begun to show; they were subtle but undeniable. You’d joked that the oversized team gear was now your new uniform, but deep down, you knew every big layer was just a shield against curious eyes and flashing cameras.

“You okay?” Max Fewtrell’s voice pulled you back. He was one of the few people who knew the secret you had been carrying. 

“Just hoping he keeps it clean today,” you said, forcing a small smile as you turned your gaze back to the track.

Lando had started on pole, nerves evident in the way he’d squeezed your hand this morning, whispering a quiet, “I’m winning for both of you,” before leaving for the paddock.

You’d watched every lap since, heart clenching at every turn, every overtake, every narrow save. But now, on the final lap, he was in clear. Leading by seconds. He looked like he was flying. 

And then the chequered flag waved above his car.

Your breath caught in your throat as his papaya-orange car crossed the line first. The noise was unreal. Silverstone had erupted. You clapped a hand over your mouth, attempting to hold back your tears that were threatening to fall. He’d done it. 

He’d won his home race again.

The camera feed cut to him screaming into the radio, voice cracking, half-laughing, half-crying. "We did it! We actually did it, boys!"

Chaos quickly followed, as it always did after a win. Team members ran full speed toward the pit wall, confetti and champagne waiting, the Landostand screaming themselves hoarse. You stayed back, clutching your lanyard, trying your hardest to blend into the sea of McLaren orange.

That had been the plan. That had always been the plan: blend in. Keep the secret. Smile and wave from a distance.

But plans rarely survived Lando Norris in full emotion.

The second he climbed out of the car and tossed his helmet aside, he looked around the crowd, searching, like he always did when he knew you were near. The cameras zoomed in, his smile bright enough to outshine the hot July sun.

And then his eyes found yours.

For a second, you thought he’d hold back. That he’d remember the plan, the promise you’d made to wait a little longer before going public.

But the grin that spread across his face was wild and emotional, and before you could even move, he was running. Past the engineers, past the mechanics, past the camera crew shouting his name. Straight toward you.

“Lando—” you started, half-warning, half-laughing, but it was too late. He reached you, arms wrapping around your waist as he lifted you off your feet, spinning you around in pure, unfiltered joy.

And then, without a thought about all of the cameras and eyes around you, he kissed you.

Not a small, careful kiss. Not a hidden one behind a helmet or a corner. It was passionate and genuine and completely public.

The crowd roared even louder as the moment stretched on. All you could feel was him, though,  his heartbeat pounding against your chest, the taste of sweat and champagne on his lips.

Then he pulled back, laughing breathlessly. “We did it, love. We did it.”

You blinked, half-breathless, half-stunned. “Lando–cameras.”

It was only when he followed your gaze that he realized the dozens of cameras pointed directly at you two. Suddenly, as his eyes flickered down, he saw it too, the small curve beneath your hoodie now obvious against his orange race suit, where his hand rested instinctively. His expression softened, realization dawning.

“Oh,” he whispered, eyes wide.

The big secret was not so secret anymore.

The next hour was a blur between the camera flashes, shouts, and PR panic. His media manager was already halfway through crisis mode before the podium ceremony even began. You’d been quickly ushered into the hospitality suite with Max and a few close friends, all pretending not to refresh Twitter every five seconds.

Your stomach twisted with every headline. You knew this day would come eventually, just not like this.

The door eventually creaked open, and Lando slipped inside, still half-soaked from the champagne spray, hair messy, grin unshakable. “Hey.”

You raised an eyebrow. “You’re supposed to be celebrating with the team, or, you know, addressing the elephant in the room.”

He shrugged, walking over and dropping onto the couch beside you. “Wanted to celebrate with my family first.”

You exhaled a laugh. “You mean the family you just announced to the entire world?”

He winced, rubbing the back of his neck. “Yeah, about that–”

“Lando,” you groaned, though you couldn’t stop the smile tugging at your lips. “We talked about this.”

“I know,” he said quickly, eyes soft. “And I’m sorry. I just—I saw you and everything else disappeared. I didn’t even think.”

You looked at him and saw the racer who gave everything he had on track, and somehow still had love left over for you. His sincerity melted every trace of frustration.

“You really didn’t think, huh?”

“Not even a little,” he admitted with a grin. “But I don’t think I regret it.”

You sighed, leaning back against him. “It’s going to be a shit show now.”

“I can handle chaos,” he murmured, pressing a kiss to your temple.

He placed his hand gently over your bump, thumb brushing small circles. The simple gesture calmed every worry still lingering in your chest.

He smiled over at you. “I was getting tired of pretending I didn’t have the favorite person in my life waiting for me after every race, anyways.”

You laughed, tears threatening to fall again. “You’re lucky you’re cute.”

“Extremely lucky,” he agreed, kissing you again, this time softer, slower, with the quiet kind of love that didn’t need a cheering crowd.

Later that night, after the chaos had softened into celebration, McLaren orange and Lando neon still shimmered through the paddock, but inside the quiet of the motorhome, it was just the two of you.

Lando sat on the couch, your legs draped across his lap, his fingers tracing lazy circles over the curve of your stomach. Every so often, he’d glance down in awe, as if he still couldn’t quite believe it.

“Do you think your fans will hate me for keeping it secret?” you asked softly.

He shook his head. “They’ll understand. People always have opinions, but we don’t owe them every piece of our lives.”

You smiled, curling closer. “That’s surprisingly mature of you.”

He smirked. “Winning your home race does that to a man.”

You rolled your eyes, laughing. “Of course it does.”

A comfortable silence followed, the kind filled with everything unspoken: relief, love, peace. Outside, the night hummed with victory, but inside, everything felt calm.

Lando tilted his head, looking at you like you were the only thing that mattered. “You know,” he said quietly, “when I crossed that line today, all I could think of was how much I wanted you there. I didn’t care about the cameras or the champagne or anything. I just wanted you.”

You met his gaze, voice barely above a whisper. “You had me. Always.”

He leaned in, forehead resting against yours. “Guess the world knows that now, too.”

You smiled, eyes fluttering shut. “Good. Maybe they’ll finally find out my name and stop calling me your ‘mystery girl.’”

He chuckled. “Nah, mystery girl has a nice ring to it.”

Outside, the lights of Silverstone still shone bright, reflecting in his eyes as he whispered, “Next year, I’m winning it again for all three of us.”

You smile, fingers sliding into his hair. “I could tell. You were flying out there.”

He pulls back just enough to look at you. “You’re biased.”

“Obviously,” you grin, and he kisses you — quick, teasing, like he needs it more than he’ll admit. Then another. And another. Until it’s not quick at all.

“You smell like rubber and Monster,” you mumble into his mouth.

“And you smell like you snuck in again.”

You both giggle — the kind of giddy, post-high laugh that only happens after watching someone you love do something insane. He kisses the corner of your mouth, your cheek, your jaw.

“I was watching from the garage. Crossed every finger. Almost cried.”

Lando smiles against your skin. “That’s why I got P2. You didn’t cry.”

“Oh, shut up,” you laugh.

He kisses you again, this time slower. “Next time I’ll win.”

“You better.”

“Will you still kiss me if I’m P10?”

You pause like you're thinking, then whisper, “Depends if you look this hot in the suit.”

That earns a dramatic gasp, then a playful bite on your shoulder before you both dissolve into more giggles. He holds your face like he’s trying to memorize it. “You’re gonna be the death of me.”

“I better be.”

Someone calls for him again. He sighs. “You coming back to mine?”

“Of course.”

“Good. Can’t sleep without my good luck charm.”
