“ If you were nothing I certainly wouldn’t be spending my time hanging out with you, would I? Maybe you should do what I did, ask for time off, because they might kick your ass out if you just continue the no-show act. ” It’s unlike the redhead to mother anybody, but she knows better than anybody how a terrible mindset can ruin your life, and she’s unwilling to allow that to happen to Micah. “ More than an amazing gift? Now I’m flattered! Don’t be sorry dumbass, we’re all irritating assholes, it’s why we’re friends. ”

‘’– it wasn’t..’’ there’s a moment of silence and he shrugs. ‘’ if you’d call it graves. i just visited where i hid their bodies. just.. felt like visiting, i s’pose.’’ it was random, at a time like that to just leave yeah.. but when his secret was out, he felt overwhelmed and just needed some time to himself. and tobias could definitely tell, something was off. ‘’ bambi, i’ve been a shit brother. i know i have. but.. i’m going to make up for it.’’

“ Yeah, well, at least you got some closure. ” She shifted in her seat slightly, so that she could glance out the window every few seconds, the newly blossoming flowers providing her some solace. “ Doesn’t bother me, but Lorelei’s best friend is missing, so you should probably do something about that. ” Of course, that was a lie, but she’d be damned if she let him know just how lost she’d been without him. How much she’d suffered. “ Oh, and Mom’s been at us about keeping our weird fucking ‘ A ’ marks clean so they HEAL properly, you know, disinfectant and all that shit, so I hope you’ve been taking care of yours or she’s going to flip. ”

there’s a moment of silence when he finally brings his head up to look at her, micah having slipped on a pair of sunglasses. sitting himself on the counter, he tries to think of a way to avoid the SUBJECT of this conversation– looking anywhere but her. ‘’… funny story.. no, no– i’ve GREATLY APPRECIATED your company this entire time. i’ve.. never said it enough.’’

She turns to look at him as he places himself next to her, the rarest of emotions briefly flashing across Bambi’s features; concern. “ Hey, I know things have been pretty shitty lately, but you should still go. ” She gives him a playful nudge in an attempt to keep the atmosphere lighthearted, “ I get it, you totally dig me, would cry if I wasn’t around, and my friendship is a gift. For the record, I like having you around too, Meeks, even when you’re being an irritating asshole. ”

‘’nope. i have TOO much free time on my hands so this comes in handy.’’ he motions to the bong, setting it down on the counter beside her. ‘’ i’ll have you know, i– yeah.. thanks for the tip.’’ ducking his head, he nods once. ‘’ i mean it, i appreciate you coming by. hanging out with you.. is amazing.’’

“ Not that I’m usually one for encouraging decent behaviour, haven’t you been going to college? It’d probably be a fucking good distraction. ” Not like she could talk, having taken a year off herself, “ it’s amazing, huh? Good to know you’re finally appreciating my incredible company! ”

‘’it wasn’t a good trip. it wasn’t good, but it was well needed because i.. got some closure ?? visited my parents.’’ he’s silent for a few minutes, looking down to avoid her gaze. ‘’ just needed some time away, i s’pose. but.. i’m sorry for leaving up out of the blue. i missed you a lot.’’ finally, tobias looks up at her with a weak smile and only shrugs.

“ Pretty sure wherever you were was better than here. ” She pushes herself off from the couch and instead chooses to sit in a nearby armchair, tucking her feet underneath her as she quirks a brow. “ Their graves, right? Dunno’ why you’d want to do that, revisiting the past is pretty lame. ” She huffed at his words, blowing hair from her face with a shrug, “ whatever, you did what you wanted, right? ”

“ alcohol enhances emotions so if we’re gonna be honest, i’ll be the worst drinking partner and we both know that, ” she said with a hint of a smirk behind her words. despite being worried about daisy, and more than half of her believing she was in danger, a part of her was actually thinking the rumors were true as to if she was just on some type of binge and wanting to be away from everyone. “ i —–, ” she paused, looking at the blank essay she had on her computer before finally shutting it and sliding it into her bag, pulling her beanie on her head. “ fine – but i’m not going to be over ecstatic like you. ”

“ Which is why I’ll make sure to keep you nice and distracted; we’re officially the no negative emotions club, starting from now. ” Hand unconsciously went to rest on her newfound scar, finger tapping against the ivory skin, “ I don’t expect you to be! I mean, no one does blind ecstasy like Bambi Mitchell, I would never expect you to keep up. ” She gives her best friend a playful wink, leaping up from her seat with a wicked grin, “ this’ll be good for us, invite your miserable boyfriend if it’ll make you feel any better. ” Despite the harsh words the redhead’s typically playful tone rid the sentence of any ill-meaning, her shoulders shuffling from excitement.

he’s been away longer than expected, so when he comes back.. he’s relieved to find the town still standing. tobias opens the door to the mitchell home, and sets his stuff down– plopping down on the couch. ‘’ guess who’’s HOOOME?? ‘’

Bambi walks into the front room just in time to see her brother take a seat, a subtle irritation rising in her throat as she’s reminded of his stark absence the past few weeks, an absence that had done nothing to help her state of mind. “ Hey, idiot. ” She pushes the words through her teeth, forcing a vibrant smile to her face as she leans onto the back of the couch, “ have a good trip? ”

‘’ hm–’’ looking up, he exhales the smoke– letting out a sigh. ‘’ oh– hey bambs. thought i was in trouble. ‘’ shrugging, he sets the bong down and runs a hand through his hair. ‘’ thanks for comin’ over to hang out.’’

“ No trouble here, stoner, just thought I’d keep your lonely self company. ” She hops up onto the nearby kitchen counter, tilting her head with a smile, “ nobody home? ” Her legs swing back and forth lightly, general lighthearted energy filling the room, “ next time, I suggest locking the door if you don’t wanna’ get caught. Just a tip. ”

he wants to say something in response to that, but holds it in and folds his arms over his chest. no matter what death would come to them all. it’s something that can’t just be erased. so he’s silent with narrowed eyes, listening to her words as he stares down at her. ‘’minus the washing off part, but sure. sounds pretty exciting rebel. i’m in.’’

“ You’re gonna’... Stay covered in paint? ” She shrugs, shifting her bag into a better position on her shoulder as she moves closer towards the door, “ your choice! But we need to get going, it’ll be dark soon and we wanna’ make the most of our time. ” But by the time she’s finished her sentence she’s already out the door, bounding out onto the street and breathing in the late evening air. “ Hurry up! ”

‘’ this totally isn’t what i was expecting. i was expecting responsible bambi to walk through the door… ‘’ trailing off, he makes his way towards her– finding himself smiling down at her. ‘’ i like this bambi better. what did you have in mind ?? ‘’

“ Just because I stopped you killing yourself doesn’t mean I’m responsible, it just means I don’t want to deal with more death. ” There’s a generally light tone to her voice but behind it is hidden venom, an afterthought from her branding that has yet to fade away. “ The local college has an EVENT on at their pool tomorrow. It’s all set up inside, lots of balloons, banners, pretty sure they’ve dyed the water pink, ” she looks up at him, pulling a few cans of spray paint from her bag, “ break in, mess it up a little, wash it off, get out. Sound exciting enough for you? ”

‘’ if you’re here to check on me and my well being, they’re both fine. haven’t done anything stupid since the LAST TIME i did something stupid.’’ a hand runs along his face as he looks at bambi, head tilting curiously. ‘’ why are you here ?? ‘’

“ I’m actually here to suggest something stupid, but if you’d rather I left? ” She moves a few steps back towards the door, brow raised as she waits for a reply, “ you want people to stop asking how you are, I want to forget about this gross... Thing, ” she points towards her bandaged left upper arm, “ so let’s do something dumb enough that we’ll forget all about this shit. ”

“ i already asked for some shitty extension or something, ” she muttered with a small chuckle before moving her body to sit up straighter in the chair, looking at the other across from her. “ i’ll try my best, yeah? just haven’t really been thinking of much other than daisy lately — kind of hard to write some shitty ass paper about something i don’t fuckin’ care about while my sister is still missing. ”

“ See! Alcohol? The perfect solution to ALL of our current problems... Or, at least, a decent start, right? ” She stretches her arms out above her, mind desperate and impatient for some kind of buzz, “ so tell Prof Boring-As-Fuck that you’re not doing his bullshit paper! I mean, what kind of jackass makes you write during a family emergency. Totally disrespectful. ” She quirks a brow, “ it’ll be a win-win. You get out of the paper and get a distraction whilst you wait for news about Daisy, I get my best pal back for a night. ”
