I want to keep this blog DGM only so I decided to create another one to post my game fanart there (such as genshin, blizzard games like sc and hots, soulsborne and some others) bc I Really like tumblr‘s system more than twitter‘s when it comes to saving art in one place
So if you are interested then welcome to @einkleinesmittelding
If not then be sure that this blog will remain as it is now - dgm only and rarely but steadily active :D
Hiya, here's some omake from Volume 29! These are pages in between chapters, some special thanks and an author's note.
Usually Jeidafei would translate and edit these solo, but we've decided to scanlate it this time ^^ you can find past translations on @jeidafei's blog, she's translated other extras such as Komui's Lounges too!
(Credits: Jeidafei, Maoujestic, Palyeon)
(Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon)
(Allen's dialogue is supposed to be a gargled “Ughhh, what a naag… Yeah, yeah, I’m on it~)
Anddd that marks the end of it. Thank you for reading! We enjoyed working on these extras, Hoshino is really funny lol
VISITING D.GRAY-MAN LOCATIONS IN THE UK PART 1: THE CAMPBELL HOUSE
For the ones following on Twitter (or Instagram!), you might know I've been to the UK for a little trip, and I visited a few locations that inspired Hoshino for D.Gray-man. This is the first part of my small review. The next part will be about Edinburgh!
I also made small vlog, you can see it here
I think you will recognise this place ! It's the house which (probably) inspired the Campbell mansion in D.Gray-man. The place is called Wallington Hall. It's a National Trust in Northumberland.
1. How to get there ?
It's a bit tricky to get there, as it is really in the middle of the countryside. We were in Newcastle, so we took a train until a town called Morpeth (20 minutes) and then a taxi (30 minutes). I think you can take a taxi from Newcastle as well, but it will be more expensive. The taxi is around 35£. You'll also need a taxi to get back, so don't forget to reserve one.
I know there is a bus on weekends from May to September (I think?) so if you don't have a car and you don't want to spend your money in taxi fares, it might be a good idea. Obviously, the best thing would be to have your own car to drive until there.
The entrance fees are REALLY expensive. It's 20£ per person. You have to pay at the moment you enter the car parking, but once you pay, you get access to the whole estate without limitation . I know there is a sort of National Trust pass, it might be interesting if you are visiting several estates during your stay.
2. Facilities in the house (cafés, bookshops, etc.)
The place is very well designed so you can spend a whole day there.
There are a few shops : a restaurant/cafe where you can have a full meal or just a snack, an ice cream shop and even a pizza car.
We got pizza cooked in a traditional oven, it's was delicious ! It cost us 7£ each.
We also had a small tea time break! (More coffee than tea, actually...)
You also have a souvenir shop and a flower shop. There is also a second-hand book shop, it's really cute.
You can buy flowers there !
You can rent bikes as well. The place is really big, so you can just explore the gardens your bike. There are a lot of people with their dogs, I think it's a very popular strolling place among the locals. And at last, there is a playground for kids!
We went exclusively for D.Gray-man but honestly, we didn't get bored for one second, the estate is so big and there are so many things to do and to see, you can easily spend the whole day here (and we actually did!)
3. The house itself
The house itself is way bigger than it seems.
Inside, you have a beautiful patio, which seems quite surprising when you look at the house from the outside.
I won't describe the house's interiors too much, I'm sure there are better descriptions out there on the internet! Besides, I made a small vlog with a few videos of the insides, so maybe it's will be easier to understand with videos than with my broken English.
Also, near the house, you have several gardens. The walled garden is absolutely beautiful. When we went, the daffodils and the tulipes were in full bloom, it was stunning.
4. Comparison with D.Gray-man
There is no wheat field or white tree near the house ! But we went there just when the lambs were born, the fields were full of small lambs running around, it was adorable.
We spoke a bit with the staff, they didn't know about D.Gray-man and they were very surprised a Japanese mangaka found this house, because it's not a famous estate or famous family.
Also, I bought there a guidebook to the house, and I discovered that in the middle of the XIXth century, the master of the house married a woman named Campbell! Coincidence ?!
Campbell is a common name so I would not be surprised it is just a coincidence. I didn't find anything in English or Japanese about her so I hardly imagine Hoshino did it on purpose, but who knows...
Thank you for reading this small report! Next time, I'll publish a guide to the DGM locations in Edinburgh!
This page was never published in the magazine version. Actually, there are two pages from volume 28 that were added once the volume was out, and hence never published in the magazine. This is one of the two pages!
I think the second one is the illustration of a younger Mana in a mirror, but I'm not sure...🤔
If you pay close attention (and you read BOTH the magazine and the volumes 😂) you'll see there are some major differences: new pages, correction of some dialogues, correction of some drawing lines, etc.
Some examples of that would be for instance in the chapter when Allen hits Cosimov (in the flashback arc). In the magazine, the lines aren't finished, she was probably in the rush when drawing it so we only got a rough drawing, but she finished the lines and the drawing in the volume.
Another big (and important!) difference! would be the chapter in the flashback arc when Cross says he is looking for the host. In the chapter, he said Nea died 35 years ago, which is impossible because Nea died 35 years ago comparatively to the current timeline, but the flashback arc takes place at least 5 years or more before the current timeline, so it's just impossible...It's just Hoshino Sensei's mistake.... When the chapter was out, it was a small storm in the fandom (at least, the JP fandom) because we were like "whaaaaat?" And regularly, I see Reddit or Discord discussion about this, because once in a while, there is always a fan discovering the mistake, and because the DGM fandom is hungry with theories and we have a small tendency to interpret everything (and me, the first ahaha), everyone starts panicking...
And indeed, it was corrected once the volume was out (probably 27 or 26, don't remember, sorry 😭). She just replaced it with something like "Nea died a long time ago"...
So yes, there are small differences between volumes and chapters! By the way, Hoshino Sensei has said several times, but the volumes are the canon, so please refer to the volumes to be sure.
