can we just take a moment to appreciate how WONDERFUL and AMAZING and POWERFUL and simply breath-taking the song “Speechless” is? listen I know that this song isn’t included in the original movie “Aladdin” but what they did here is something extraordinary. Jasmine is more ambitious ( in the original she is a badass, she IS ambitious and a strong and capable woman, they just showed it more here ) and she definitely knows what she wants. She won’t be silenced. Her voice SHOULD be loud and should be heard as everyone else’s. I love the fact that the lyrics literally display the oppression that this princess ( and of course every other woman ) has to go through just because she is seen as an object.
“ Here comes a wave meant to wash me away, a tide that is takin’ me under. Swallowing sand left with nothing to say, my voice drowned out in the thunder.”
This song doesn’t just speak for princess Jasmine. This song speaks for every woman in the world that has been silenced by her surroundings. This song right here is a song of rebellion and hope. Powerful on a whole other level.
“ Written in stone every rule every word, centuries old and unbending.
Stay in your place better seen and not heard
well not that story is ENDING.”
