A good manager gives his employees more to do because he trusts them or wants to give them an opportunity to succeed. If you respond to the new tasks with, I already know I can't handle this, you are seriously doing yourself a disservice by not trying first. If you are uncertain over how successful you can be because of the workload, give your manager a heads up. Ask for help or guidance. If you're embarrassed to ask the management team, ask your colleagues. Why does everything have to be so black and white with people?

The World Series...

In response to some comments on social media and commentary in publications: A gracious response to someone’s ignorance does NOT mean indifference. Not all situations call for balled fists and a loud voice. Strength can come from self-control through the realization that the situation is more than just that one. And anyone who’s Asian or mixed that says “what’s the big deal?” in regards to the Darvish-Gurriel situation is fine by me, but do NOT for a second discredit the hurt/outrage that others have felt.

Every protest has a-holes, and the mainstream media swarms around them like flies to poop.... ruining it for the cause... for the voices that matter. How about some more in-depth reporting on the situation as a whole, instead of split-second reactions that don't give the viewers ANY real idea of what's going on?

Tracking My Every Move

As I scroll through my feed every morning, I still find myself shocked that some of the articles or ads are particularly catered to me. I know it's not a coincidence. My phone listens to my conversations and notes my locations, my browser tracks my searches and clicks, and so much more happens through the technology that I interact with everyday.

As an example, my friends and I were out to dinner at a bar in LA. My friend commented that the waiter looked like a band member from a rock group in the early 2000's. I took her word for it and didn't bother searching for his photo to compare. The next day, IG gave me an ad to purchase tickets to an upcoming show in LA for that band. Another example is that I was walking through the aisles of CVS to kill time while I waited for my prescription. I lingered a little too long at a display for Epsom salt. Later that day, an ad popped up on my feed with that exact same brand. I mean... My examples can go on and on.

You would think that listing all the examples out like that would generate fear, but truthfully, I'm a little bit fascinated with all of it. I've come to the conclusion that more awareness and education about technology helps you make better choices and honestly, reduces some of the fear attached to it. Yes, send me all the ads and the pop-ups. Tell me what I left in my cart before I decided that I didn't want to buy it anymore. It's fine. It's more of an annoyance than anything. And you know... to think that this can be JUST the beginning. If I don't make myself aware of what's happening now, how will I ever be equipped for the near future? How will I teach my future children how to live in this ever-changing world? I cannot shelter them even if I am able to shelter myself, because I refuse to be the type of parent that knows less than their children when it comes to this. And in all... thank God that He is the King of and over my life. There is nothing that I do that isn't seen by him.

Midnight Thoughts

Last night, I was thinking about the Holy Trinity. In no particular order, I thought of the power of the Holy Spirit, the works of Jesus, and the presence of God. As I drifted off to sleep, I thought about Jesus as God. God as Jesus. And I thought about how Jesus is also described as the Son of God. BUT... maybe God set it up with that title for us because it was the only way for us to understand the closeness of their relationship. A parent to a child relationship is the closet bond that a human being can get and understand. Yet God’s thoughts/ways are above ours, so I have a feeling that that’s why the Trinity is so confusing. It’s almost as if we can only be given them in parts and understand them as parts rather than as a whole AND as parts. It literally blew my mind as I was thinking about all of this last night. Yet, through the awe and focus, God still gave me the peace I needed to sleep.

Whether you recognize it or not, the seeds for your glorious future have already been sown. Your various life experiences, relationships, even your mistakes have all contributed to fertilize those seeds of purpose. God’s route to your glorious future relies on His unique sense of direction, not the logical, straightforward route you might envision. The doorway to your glorious future is likely to be open already, waiting for you to step up and walk through it. “I started shooting photos a little bit more than 2 years ago, I started with film and stuck to it, my first double exposure was done by accident, I enjoyed the outcome so much that I started to shoot more and more double exposures because it’s awesome to have two sides of a story on just one frame. I’m always portraying my closest friends the only reason I shoot photos is that I wanna make memories, I want to have photos to look at when I’m older and just remember things I may have forgot about. I never plan anything when I shoot, probably because I always carry my camera with me so I don’t have to, when I come across something interesting I just shoot it regardless of time, weather, people, etc. I just really focus on the moment and what I feel.”

How did I go from leaving my hair, clothes and paper all over the floor at my parents' home to becoming the manager of my own home? I don’t like that it’s become a necessary “mental load” to bear. The unfortunate part is that it’s so embedded into our society that it’s going to take one future child at a time to even make a dent. This is another reason why I don’t want to have a daughter. I don’t want her to feel the burden of being a woman in this life--the amount of pressure to look, act, and even feel a certain way. I want to have a son whom I will want to teach to be kind and thoughtful and sometimes go against the gender norms if he wants.

Sigh... so much truth in this article, but it stresses me out!

Morning Subway Ride Thoughts - not subjective

In the past several weeks since the turn of the new year, the city has been cold and rainy. The worse the weather gets, the more populated the underground areas become with the homeless. The air smells a little worse, and I become a little more careful.

Today, although not much different from other days, the subway cars were flooded with hooded men--dark blue and black bundles of clothes covered from head to toe. And then there’s me... a striking difference from the rest. Me, in light beige. A woman. Young. Asian. So many characteristics that make me stand out while I desperately desire wallflower status in most situations. Head down. Mouth shut. Quietly observing. Gathering together visual notes and thoughts on the world around me as I’m doing now.

Has he love? Well, there is not a drop of love in his heart which is not yours; you may dive into the immense ocean of his love, and you may say of it all, "It is mine.'

On this election day, where America could potentially vote in their first woman president, I stand among my male colleagues unable to speak because they constantly speak over me.... it’s little situations like this that constantly make me think... if/when I have kids, I really wish I don’t have a daughter. I don’t think I can handle seeing my daughter being mistreated, misrepresented, and stepped on all her life.
