Update
Have taken quick break from studying to achieve level 3 tinder shit disturber status. Conclusion: 9/10 people take life too seriously to know when a joke is happening.
Something sadly interesting
I've been interested (or maybe a little convicted?) lately about buying cruelty free products. I'm no tree hugger. I love the bunny fur and leather of my vintage moccasins and cats, ugh, can you please disappear forever?, but unnecessary cruelty for the sake of money alone is not okay with me. I've been doing some light research into what brands are cruelty free and I've found it's a very convoluted business. There are tons of brands that say they don't test on animals but they don't have to state whether their suppliers test on animals or if they hire a 3rd party to do it or if their parent company does. Most interestingly to me though is that many brands will say they do not test on animals "except where required by law". Weird right? Well, turns out China REQUIRES companies to test their products on animals in order to be sold there. WHAT?! That's crazy to me. And sadly many companies have switched from being cruelty free to cruel cruel torturers in order to sell their products in China. Because it's all about the money. UGH. A huge name, Estée Lauder, did just this. And you may think this won't effect you but Estée owns way more companies than you may think including (but by no means limited to): MAC Origins (this one makes me weep a little) Clinique bumble & bumble Aveda Bobbi Brown Tom Ford Smashbox Prescriptives ...and Michael Kors. And that's only a dent in the list. There are other companies who have made the switch including: Mary Kay L'Occitane Korres Boscia OPI ...and Avon ended a status of cruelty free since 1989 in order to sell in China. SERIOUSLY AVON?! Shame. On. You. So I know no one is going to make it to the end of this rant but I had to talk about it and name some shameful names, even though I LOVE some of their products (MAC lipstick anyone?!?) and maybe you learned a little bit and got thinking too. Rant over. for now.
I'm a collector.
Well let's just throw another diagnosis onto the growing docket. ADD? Sure! Haven't collected that one yet! Put it next to the depression and anxiety over in aisle three, left of the repressed memories and high school PTSD. Tell me, Do these increase in value over time or should I start collecting baseball cards?
Just ignore the word "crotch". It was a different time.
"I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig-tree, starving to death, just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet." - Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar
