Death From Above 1979 are playing secret shows in Toronto next week!
Belle & Sebastian- God Help The Girl
I think Belle & Sebastian both invented, and perfected the term twee. It certainly applies here in this video.
Joanna Gruesome- Jerome (Liar)
One of my favourite new bands of 2013 are back with a brand new song that they are contributing to a split 12" with Trust Fund. The band have picked up where they left off from last year with "Jerome (Liar)", a song oozing with indie pop sweetness. The single will be available in September, and it will feature two more songs from the Welsh band.
If you don’t know American singer songwriter Jenny Lewis, then you’re probably lying to yourself, since she’s well known for her roles in Rilo Kiley and The Postal Service, on top of having a fantastic solo career over the years. Jenny Lewis has a new LP coming soon, titled The Voyager, out July 29 on Warner Brothers, and she’s recently debuted two charmers off the release. Today, she gives us the title track The Voyager, following on the heels of first preview, Just One Of The Guys. Both are enchanting and pastoral indie folk rock gems. The Voyager comes off incredibly wistful and yearning. Just One Of The Guys is a more rumbling jangler, with more of a sassy twist. I don’t know about you, but I certainly love my dose of folk on a daily basis, and Jenny Lewis’ new album is ship shaping up to be a must grab.
Slowdive- Catch The Breeze
Best music news of the year, so far. Slowdive have officially reunited, have one gig confirmed, and there are rumours of new material on the way.
Here is hoping they book a North American tour. I will be first in line to buy tickets.
The Soft Moon- Feel
A surprise new single from Oakland post punk band The Soft Moon. "Feel" may be a more pop oriented affair than the band's earlier output, but the track is till dark enough that it could still be played at the goth club.
Cities Aviv- Don't Ever Look Back
Cities Aviv is my favourite alternative hip hop artist performing today. New album Come To Life is out today.
Childbirth- I Only Fucked You As A Joke
Singer Julia Shapiro takes off the "Chastity Belt" to have a little fun with Childbirth and ends up fucking someone as a joke.
Punk rock that speaks for itself.....
The Vaselines- Slushy Cold, snowy, slushy, shitty Monday, but despite its name, this song cheers me up. Long blonde hair, eyes were green Prettiest girl I've ever seen And you'll never miss what you never had
Elephant- Elusive Youth One of my favourite new bands at the moment, Elephant, keep churning out great music on there way to releasing their debut LP. The album is titled Sky Swimmer and will be out in April. Their newest song "Elusive Youth" is more twee than the swooning dream pop of their previous singles and reminds of great bands like Camera Obscura or the Concretes.
