Hello! My name is Elliot (Or Foxfire, if you prefer), and I am a 17 year old transmasc butch lesbian looking to make friends!

I bring a "Cis people should have equal access to all gender affirming surgeries" vibe to the function that transphobes don't really like

This is what angers me about the talking point of "cis people have easier access to gender affirming care" they DON'T.

Cis folks often face the same challenges when trying to get affirming care that is outside of the expected binary for them. A cis woman wants top surgery? Yeah, she will still need a gender dysphoria diagnosis that will prove she's a binary trans man that needs to have top surgery in order to live. You're cis, don't have gender dysphoria *and you're poor*?? You're absolutely cooked.

The only reason we even think that gender affirming care is more accessible for cis folks is because of the pressure for cis folks to conform to the expected gender they have socially imposed upon them, which disproportionately means intersex folks, from birth up into adulthood, being abused and coercively "fixed" which is presented as a net positive (spoiler: it's not). This looks like teenage girls getting boob jobs, or men taking testosterone to build more muscle, or women getting laser hair removal, etc. etc. etc.

Cis and trans people alike have a very very hard time to just do what they want with their bodies. We should be able to have the gender affirming care we want and refuse the "care" that we don't want. End of.

Could you elaborate on your recent post on 'romanticisation of dark things'? I understand fiction is pretend so it cannot cause physical harm, and I also agree that reader maturity (rather than censorship) is important.

But I still find that romanticising things is rather disagreeable; though By "romanticisation," I don't mean simply depicting dark or immoral acts. Rather, I mean narratives that present a character's harmful actions as morally acceptable, admirable, or something the audience is encouraged to emulate.

Criticising and just discussing the underlying ideas a work is based on is important, it's one of the factors that make a reader 'mature. It's often seen in how many people criticise the discriminatory ideas like racism or sexism romanticised in or underlying works, and, ask authors to do better. From the way you framed it, it sounds like you're advocating for the opposite?

I'm sorry if this post offends in some way, please trust me that i'm only coming from a place of curiosity, not bad faith :)

I still believe that even if the character's harmful action is being portrayed as "good", that is still well within the artist's freedom and rights to portray their character's actions/wrongdoings however they want, and that includes the artist's choice to glorify or romanticize their character's wrongdoings too.

especially if a work of art or a fanfic is written in the antagonist's/the villain's point of view, it is absolutely understandable if the work glorifies the bad things the character does, because the work portrays that character's mind and how they think/how they see the world, and the audience consume the work through that character's mindset. (so of course, if the character thinks their harmful actions are justified and are "good", then a work that is written in their point of view will glorify these harmful actions the character does.)

is reader maturity important? yes, but the thing is that it is not an artist's job to hold their audience's hand and teach them why these things are wrong or that it's only okay for it to be portrayed this way because it is fiction. artists are not anybody's babysitter. fanfiction is not supposed to be used as a tool to teach anybody about moral compass.

a minor, or someone who may be influenced by the art they consume, should learn about morality and what's right/what's wrong from their parents/guardians/adults in their life, not fanfics or fanfic writers.

Dr. Alan Hart, a trans man from the USA who pioneered the use of X-ray photography in tuberculosis detection (saving countless lives according to researchers), was "reclaimed" by the lesbian community after his death in 1962, which means he was deadnamed and described as "a women loving woman who had to transition because at the time transsexualism was a quick medicine against sexism and homophobia" by numerous gay and lesbian associations and activists (including Jonathan Ned Katz whom I just quoted and who received many awards for his contributions to... I don't know, transphobia against trans men I guess), even though his widow always expressed how offensive it was to both her and her husband to refer to them as lesbians.

Hart was on testosterone, legally changed his name, and had gotten a hysterectomy (that was described as "unfortunate" by the Right to Privacy gay and lesbian political action committee), making him the first documented trans man to transition in the USA, yet he was characterized as a lesbian woman because cis gays and lesbians had the nerve (when do they NOT have the nerve, dare I say) to think they had the right to "honor [his] life as a woman" by having fundraiser dinners with his deadname attached to them, having college lectures where they talked about him as a lesbian hero, and using she pronouns for him until 2000. The USAmerican trans community, including trans activist Lou Sullivan, had to fight to defend Hart's identity and to have his manhood recognized by the wider community by protesting these lectures and dinners and having a conversation with the Portland chapter of the Lesbian Avengers association, which ended up having a favorable response and joining the trans community in the battle.

I want to end this by reporting the words of Candice Hellen Brown, a trans woman from Portland who wrote a letter to Just Out magazine in 1994 defending Hart's transness:

The Right to Privacy Political Action Committee in Oregon has a big fundraiser every year that is called the [deadname] Hart Dinner. When asked if I am going, I indignantly answer, "Not until they stop using the wrong name and gender for one of our heroes!" His name is Alan [. . .] He never wavered from his identity as a man, and upon his death, his widow continued to insist that he was a man. Why would such a straight man be called a lesbian by the gay community when today we would certainly call him a female-to-male transsexual? [. . .] He was transsexual or, at least, a transgenderist - a true pioneer. One who is seen as a hero by today's transsexual community. Please don't let him be taken away from us by allowing his old name to be used as though it were a badge of honor.

Think about this story every time the "trans men never contributed to anything in history" discourse resurfaces again. If this can happen to a famous historical figure from the USA and from a relatively recent time who medically transitioned and was explicitly out as a trans man, imagine how many others from other countries, historical periods, and situations have been erased or "reclaimed".

I always hate how butch characters in media have to still be feminine, or people try to find our “feminine features”. They completely forget the fact that we’re SUPPOSED to be masculine presenting—and even then, being butch isn't even about what you wear. It's about values, attitudes, and being a part of community.

i want to remind our fellow femmes that our femininity is not defined by how straight people (especially men) define femininity.

you don't have to be skinny, or white, or clean shaven, or cis, or covered in frilly clothing from head to toe to be femme. you could go out in sweatpants and an oversized shirt 90% of the time with no makeup and still be the prettiest femme on the block.

i hope my femme queens, princesses, knights, and little creatures stop limiting themselves in their femmeness. you are GORGEOUS and POWERFUL so keep being a fucking DYKE that REJECTS GENDER ESSENTIALISM!!!!!!!!
