About how old are you and about where are you a priest? Don't feel like you have to get too specific or anything, I'm just tickled that I priest I may have talked to could have a Tumblr. Do you view having a Tumblr as a ministry or just a place to post things you like?
Tumblr is a place I kind of occasionally get on just to see what's going on. I don't really use it much as a ministry, I'm best at ministering in person. I'm in my mid 30s and I'm in the Midwest.
it seems like it’s been awhile since you’ve been on here. i hope things are well!
Things are good in life! I just forget to get on here sometimes. Thanks for checking in ❤️
What has been the biggest struggle in your life? I've been feeling hopeless and wondering if my problems are too significant to ever follow through with the vocation I desire so much
I've gotten MUCH better over the years but there's always a little urge in the back of my head to completely self sabotage and ruin my own life. This has mainly been through substance abuse and doing absolutely insanely reckless things. This characteristic has been persistent and destructive throughout my life and I think I'll live with it at least to some degree forever.
I've had a series of setbacks but I've been maintaining complete sobriety and am in probably the best mental space of my whole life. All people who have been called to a vocation are human and have human problems. We have a God who understands ❤️
God it's me again

(tone of complete and utter exhaustion) this is the day that the Lord hath made
Me making constant uncomfortable eye contact with the penitents through the lattice gaps of the confessional
i’ve been vocal in the past about my absolute disdain for the Vatican website and how it’s inexcusable for it to be as un-user friendly as it is but i just found out that the dicastery for communications is the highest funded department of the Apostolic See and that really just infuriates me to no end

“One should always be striving for others’ well-being. Even what is proscribed is permitted for a compassionate person who sees it will be of benefit.”

Prayer for the imprisoned
Merciful God, to whom the secrets of the heart lie open, who recognize the just and make righteous the guilty, hear our prayers for our brothers and sisters held in prison; grant that through patience and hope they may find relief in their affliction and soon return unhindered to their families. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Even the person you despise the most is created in God’s image
But they choose to give up on God's gifts. They using their free will to cause harm to others.
They are still made in the image of God
They also are beloved by him. Pray for them, and try to love them
What constitutes suffering in the sense of offering it up/being meritorious for our souls or relieving the holy souls in purgatory? Does it have to be physical? Can it be mental? Does it have to be severe or can we offer up even the tiniest inconveniences and trivialities?
This is a theological aspect that doesn't get talked about much anymore and I'm really happy to be able to talk about it here!
"Suffering" is going to be defined as anything that causes hardships in life. ANYTHING can fit this.
The easiest way to explain the goal of this is that it's a way to unite ourselves and our experiences with Christ. The word "compassion" has a root meaning of "suffering together". Jesus didn't only suffer physically, and nor is our suffering only physical. We strive to be like Christ as much as we can here during our time on Earth. He made the ultimate sacrifice for all of mankind. We can offer our own pains and sacrifices for the sake of others, building our own patience, humility, and empathy.
That ache you feel in the core of your heart is a desire that God created in you, which He intends to satisfy with His love alone.

Actually my expression when I read this TikTok comment
Is it ever possible for hatred for another person to be justified?
Short answer, NO. Hating another person is sinful. It gets more complicated when we dive into the other side of hating actions. If you hate what someone does, that's perfectly fine. If you hate someone and their very being, that is not okay.
Throughout all of Scripture we are encouraged (and commanded) to purify our hearts and approach the world with love instead of hate. The only exception to this is that we are told to hate evil. In this context, evil is a lack of goodness. To make it super simple, evil is sin. We are told to hate sin. People are not sin, not even Satan himself is sin.
So you don't hate Elon Musk? Or Donald Trump? It's not ok to hate those people, is what you're saying, correct?
What I'm saying is that someone who claims to be a Christian cannot go to heaven if they have hate in their hearts.
Good thing I'm not a Christian then 👍 you have fun
...why did you ask if you don't actually care
OP didn't make it that clear that they were talking to Christians specifically
As a priest I can safely assume that almost every question that I'll be asked on here will be from a Christian. I'm going to answer them within a Christian context. This post was very very clearly made within a Christian context
