...I swear offline I don't let things like this sit. Anyways, hey fam! Class-actual class, not summer stuff- started back up a few weeks back, so my snail pace has slowed down further again (sorry!). I am still writing, it's just...really really slow. Although, I can happily say everything is laid out for the next two and a half, three chapters! Now it's just a matter of me not being buried under a mountain of homework and research tasks and writing. Which, writing is happening. One of the other things a blog suggested besides writing back story (see the Frey post) was 'write in 15/20 minute chunks' and that's been super helpful for me. So yeah, just updating you. My question for you (if anyone reads this) is would you want me to do an AMA? Cause I'd be down. Lemme know.

Character Reflection

I’ve been reading a bunch of different things to help keep me constantly writing even though scenes get stuck. One of those things was think of the backstory for your characters. And while most of mine have some form of a background, I keep coming back to Frey.

Cause Frey is a lot more important than I originally thought she was going to be in Fractured Soul.

So while I’m not packing (in RL I have to move this week), I’ll be figuring out the life and story of Frey.

I’d post some of it, but what I don’t have in the books right now will get explained later, and, well...she’s a lot more important than I thought she was going to be. Funny how that happens.

Time’s a B****

No, I have not posted the next chapter. This is me attempting to be a more active blogger/writer in general. Which may or may not look like a rant XD

But seriously, time’s a bitch. I sat down at work with my laptop fully intending to get chapter 26 written up, and I’ve spent most of my shift instead hung up over how time works in fantasy stories.

Like, modern stuff? That’s easy...well easier. Days of the week and days of months make total sense.

But my stuff (the avatar fanfic excluded) isn’t modern. It’s castles and magic and no electricity and I know sure as hell Monday and Tuesday aren’t a thing. And I’ve said names of months that I also know aren’t a thing after thinking on time and reading a few writing help things.

Sooo those are going to get fixed at some point. Maybe not instantly, cause I really want to get to a point in Shattered Mind where I can sit for an entire weekend with my insanely long spotify playlist (which i should link honestly) and just write. It’s not going to be anything crazy, cause I was also thinking about my favorite fantasy books (I’ve got a long shift, okay), and they still refer to months and days and years, but they’re not named. And I’m pretty sure that will work for my stuff too.

Okay, got that out. I’ll keep you posted on my writing progress!

Updates!

Hello! I’m still alive.

I just posted an update to my wattpad profile about what’s been happening. The message in it’s entirety can be read below:

“Holy crap it's been literal months.Hi Wattpad! I'm still alive!So, some updates, since its been over three months (super sorry about that by the way):

*Chapters 25 and 26 of "Shattered Mind" are done! Chapter 25 will be posted either this Thursday or next, depending on my schedule. Chapter 26 will not be released yet, as to give myself at least a one chapter buffer between what has been published and what I'm still writing.

*I have started Chapter 27, but it's been slow going so far. I am taking summer classes at my college and working when I get an email saying to come in so a fair amount of my day is taken up by both of those. I do have a fair amount of material written out in various places, but they're not for a few more chapters (cause heaven forbid my mind thinks up things in a linear and chronological fashion).

*Ideas bounce around my brain box more often than not for the other Elementalist books than Shattered Mind, so maybe more will be written for those (in their respective notebooks) in the eventuality that I finally get Shattered Mind done.

So yeah...that's where I'm at. I know Fractured Soul got done much much faster than Shattered Mind, but I account that to FS being nearly done when I started a project in high school to ultimately get it done by the end of my junior year (you'd have to dig through messages back to 2014 or go to fracturedsoulproject.blogspot.com to see the weekly updates/rants from that).

So I have a bit of a music obsession (also, hello! It's been a while) and this came up on one of Spotify's playlists. Take a listen and then keep reading! *waits for you to listen to the thing* I'm gonna assume you've listened to the thing. Really good, yeah? I wanna put this with a chapter on Fractured Soul (cause wattpad will let me do that), but I don't know which one. Like, I'm thinking anywhere between chapter 21 and on, which is like over half the book. So! Where do you guys think I should put it?? Lemme know!!

The numbers are really really hard to see... BUT Fractured Soul has over 41,000 reads! And Shattered Mind? Just hit 6,000!!! This may not be big compared to other stories I've seen on wattpad, but to me, this is gigantic!! And it never would have happened without you. Thank you so much!!!!

What Frozen Things Do In Summer

I already miss my dorm and it’s air conditioning. (Fun facts, mexlla88 does not have central air/heating at home.)

Anyways, here’s a big (maybe, I’m coming up with this as I go) catch up post since the last time I did an update-y thing...which may have been last summer. College does not have as much free time as you’d think, and for any college-y people reading this and have a different opinion, PLEASE tell me how you do it.

I have not been writing as much as I would have liked. College is a whole nother monster compared to high school (where I could literally sit and do nothing and still pass the class-yeah, I was that kind of nerd). There have been some very sporadic updates, as you can see. The last one was back in January, and since school started there have been four chapters.

But! Good news! And fun things! I have been on vacation (like, more than just out of school vacation, trip vacation), and I had time and muse to write when I was on various planes! So the next chapter of Shattered Mind is finished! I just have to get it typed up and proofread before it goes up on wattpad.

I’ve also been doing a lot of random out of order plotting (that’s been happening a lot more with Shattered Mind than with Fractured Soul...but I also had much much more of Fractured Soul figured out before I started writing, and FS had a deadline). There will be plot twists, and feels breaking, and hopefully I can gt around Chapter 35ish or so by the time I have to go back to school and move in to my apartment this September. Some of that plotting has been actual, physical writing, which is why I think I can get to Chapter 35 in the next few months. I mean, if I can get through seven odd chapters in the space of a month (with finishing three/four of them in a weekend) with FS, getting to 35 with where I’m at shouldn’t be a huge stretch.

So that’s the update part. Now I have questions for you.

*What do you want to see in Shattered Mind?

*What do you want to see me change in either Fractured Soul or Shattered Mind? Because I know changes can be made, grammatically and story wise-within reason.

*How often do you want to see updates from me this summer (ie, once a week, twice a week, once a month)?

*Do you think the blog url should be changed-if I can do that..not sure if I can-and if so what should it be?

*What is the answer to life, the universe, and everything?

Okay, so it is long. I did say that. And with that being said (oh look, a pun), I’m gonna go work on typing up the next chapter. Please please please send me your ideas and questions, and I’ll pop by again when I have the next chapter posted! ♫
