She jumps, & he’s almost sorry.
This is their spot. Him & Katniss. This is the one place he can find some air to
b r e a t h e, where he can see her happy rather than fighting for her LIFE.
It’s like a fire licking at him from the inside, & he can do nothing but BURN in silence.
& here in the woods sits the mayor’s daughter, too beautiful, too UNTOUCHED by
all the cruelty their world possesses.
But he needs a distraction, anything to get the images out of his mind, from allowing
his thoughts to burn him ALIVE.
❝What are you even doing here?❞
SHE KNEW GALE would not take her being here well, she expected
the typical hostilty he regards her with every time he & katniss come to
her door to sell her strawberries to be present. yet, the fact that he so
directly instructs her to leave fills her heart with dread & perhaps a bit
of ANGER. she was fine here, she felt close to whatever piece katniss
had left of herself behind when leaving for the games.
& she doesn’t want to leave.
so, politely, she points out:
“ i’m sorry. katniss told me about this place
& i’ve been here for a while now. “
madge doesn’t move, as intimidated as she is by him,
instead looking around to avoid his eyes.
“ me ?? i - nothing in particular. i wanted to ( ... )
i guess i wanted to feel close to h e r. “
gale will know who she’s talking about.
the confession, however, makes her feel so childish, so stupid, that
she looks down again. he’ll probably tell her how much of an IDIOT she
is & kick her out of the woods. well, she thinks. it was nice while it lasted.
