“You’re...” their name is on the tip of Phos’s tongue, but it eludes them.  Has the loss of their arms stolen this memory as well, they wonder.  Somehow, they get the feeling whatever they’ve fogotten was once important to them.  Something similar to how they feel... felt about Antarc.

“Sorry,” they mutter, rubbing their eyes.

“You’re... that snail person, aren’t you?”  Phos stared down into the ocean from where the other had emerged.  They couldn’t remember the man’s name, perhaps because of the loss of their arms.

Minerals in their flesh…surely something like that had to be a long way off, right?  Evolution took long periods of time, and people were nowhere near turning into something like that.  Even if Midoriya got a longevity quirk, chances were he’d never live long enough to see that kinda thing happen.  It did sound a bit interesting all the same.

“Oh, so even among gems, this is odd?”  Gold prosethetics.  Gold prosethetics on a gem person.  This was still weird.  “Can I ask what happened to your original arms then?  Or would that be uncomfortable…ah!  You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to, of course.”  Midoriya chuckled nervously, rubbing at the back of his head. Even if this person was odd, he didn’t want to offend.

“Ah...” Phos blinked, surprised, but not angry.  What a curious person.  “It was a working accident.  I was cutting ice floes when I tripped and shattered my arms against the side of a hole in the ice.  They disappeared into the ocean.“

It was a bit painful to remember, both because of their stupidity at the time and because of Antarc.  Shaking that thought out of their head, they continued, “They say my body is unusually well suited to attaching new parts to myself.  The gold runs through my body like a net now, which is now it keeps itself attached.”

Midoriya watched intently as the other’s fingers changed.  Morphed.   How odd…if they were a gemstone, then how could they do something like that?  He really didn’t want to start overthinking this- not yet at least.  Wait until he understood the situation at least a little bit more than he did now.  Still, it was making his head start to hurt.

“So…people evolved into three different species.  Gemstones- sentient gemstones, being one of those?”  His expression changed to one of confusion.  “How does something like that even happen?”  He reached up, pushing his hair out of his face slightly with a tired sigh.   Maybe….maybe All for One would know more about this?  He was old- and if anyone had any clue about it, he would.  “Yeah this is…this is weird.   Did…anything happen that caused you to…get here?”  If this ended up being some big joke, he’d leave.  But for now, best to go along with it.

“I don’t know the exact mechanics of it.  Most gems don’t even know of the existence of humans,” Phos shook their head, “But the story I was told is that when humans went extinct, the minerals in their flesh became part of us.”

They noted the look on the other’s face when their hands began to morph.  “As for gems, my body has become fairly unusual.  These arms aren’t my original arms.  They’re made of gold, attached to my body as a replacement.  I think they’re called prosthetics traditionally.”

Midoriya tilted his head a bit.  A different species?  No quirk?   That was… strange.  What kind of situation had he been thrust into this time?  It wasn’t too surprising that he’d be the one to get dragged into this.

“A gem… so… literally a gemstone?  A walking, talking…”  It was difficult to wrap his head around this.  An inorganic object with- no.   No they said they didn’t have a quirk.  So an inorganic object with sentience, one that could apparently put itself back together.   “So weird…”  Midoriya mumbled as he stood.  Maybe they were just messing with him for fun…  “I’m- well a mammal yes.  But, I’m a human.”

“Well, this is unusual either way,” Phos’s golden fingers began to morph in shape as they thought.  “Any type of mammal larger than a squirrel is said to have gone extinct millions of years ago.  Perhaps I’ve ended up in the past.”  A memory flickered in the back of Pho’s mind.  First the admirabilus, and then from the Lunarians.  “Humans were one of the creatures that went extinct.  Or more accurately, became three separate species.  Gems are one of those species.”

They squinted, looking him over again.  Somehow, they had expected humans to be more like sensei.  This one could almost pass for a gem.  “You likely don’t believe me.  If a human ended up in my time period, I would be equally confused.”

Izuku had been on his way to a training session with All Might when he had spotted something strange happening. The portal or whatever it was had appeared and dropped something and he just stood there shocked as the thing, person, looked around. He was frozen. What was happening right now? Was that their quirk? They were missing an arm! That wasn’t even normal! Even for a quirk this was all to much for him.

When the person spotted him he gasped and held his bag closer to his chest, a nervousness coming over him as he took in the person’s appearance, and the very missing arm.

“Um… no? I… how… how did you lose your arm.”

“I fell through a hole in the ice, and then I was here...”  Phos gestured with their remaining arm.  They paused, noting that it looked like the other’s eyes were about to bulge out of their head.  “Don’t worry about it too much...!  It happens a lot, I’m only a 3.5.  I can just stick it back on once I find it.”

They glanced around until something shiny caught their eye on the side of the road.  “There it is!”  It was in two pieces, but it was definitely their arm.  “Can you help me collect all the shards?  I’m Phosphophyllite, by the way.  What are you?”
