“Boys don’t know what it feels like to hate themselves and their body”
“Boys are not pressured whatsoever to conform to beauty standards”
“Only girls develop EDs or resort to starving themselves just to look good”
“Boys do not get judged or shamed for their looks or body whatsoever”
“Only girls and no boys…….”
Super Smash Bros. Melee Nintendo Gamecube 2001
I’ve been wigged out by the term “bodies” since I first saw it used in some essay I ready in college. “Black bodies” “queer bodies” “fat bodies” “female bodies” why are you so unwilling to see people as people.
Whenever I see the term, it always sounds like it's referring to corpses.
I figured it was something like that.
Or maybe to make minorities seem more like helpless victims. Oppressors are people with agency and choice, but marginalized people are just objects to be acted upon by said oppressors.
That kind of binary is very common, regardless of topic or political team.
I also wonder if making it about "bodies" makes it sound vaguely sexual and therefore worse.
