task 005: the season thus far
Timeline
Non-exhaustive, just a flyover view!
1798:
May
Frances arrives in London with a mild case of self-importance accompanied by her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch, and her younger sister, Lady Frederica Fitzroy.Â
Her name quickly becomes a curse on the tongues of Mamas and debutantes, embittered by their ill-fated debut next to the Seasonâs shiniest piece.Â
May-July:
Frances is at her bestâ glittering, charming, popular and hungry for more no matter the cost (the cost, more often than not, was a well-crafted lie at another debutanteâs expense).
July:
Frederica is assaulted and falls pregnant. The Fitzroys abruptly leave London before anyone catches on to what has transpired. The ton is left wondering what happened to the Seasonâs âdiamond of the first waterâ.
1799:
March:
Frederica dies in childbirth. Her child does not survive. Her death is kept a secret.
June:
Frances quietly returns to London with her aunt and uncle. She is late to the Season. She excuses her absence by claiming her sister has been ill.Â
Frances and Victoria have an unpleasant reunion at Vauxhall, reigniting their rivalry.Â
Frances and Jeremiah first meet. Jeremiah doesnât leave an especially positive impression, but their meeting sticks with Frances all the same.
Lord Fletcher and Frances begin courting.
July:Â
Frances discovers that Lucy and Prince Sebastian have secretly been courting.
Frances and Archibald Howard St. John attend the Queenâs Luncheon together. While they arenât a couple, the Queen gives them her blessing.Â
Frances confronts Lucy about her (previously) secret relationship with Sebastian, fracturing their friendship.Â
Jeremiah and Frances meet for the third time at Lord Fletcherâs estate. Jeremiah expresses an interest in Frances. She has similar feelings but is resistant. Their relationship becomes more complicated.
Frances learns that Lucy and her aunt (Lady Gow) are already aware of Fredericaâs pregnancy.
August:
Frances adopts a version of Fredericaâs story as her own truth and, with Archieâs assistance, has Whistledown print it before Lady Gow or Lucy can spread the story and damage Fredericaâs reputation
Lord Fletcher and Jeremiah get into a fist fight.Â
Frances returns to Scotland disgraced.
News of Fredericaâs passing is published publicly in the newspaper .
