Sometimes I think about how easy it would have been to establish Ladybug and Chat Noir as an actual balanced unit where both of them are necessary to defeat Akuma, instead of the creators acting like they are while repeatedly proving in the story this isn't the case.

As the show currently stands, Chat Noir isn't actually necessary. Like...yes, he takes the hits for LB at times, and he helps in fights and eases her burdens, but at the end of the day LB has on multiple occasions done things on her own, if not outright also fighting Chat too.

This isn't to say that this couldn't work as a narrative. There's nothing wrong with having a team of heroes who don't *need* to be fighting together to succeed, but *wanting* to.

The problem is that the showrunners insist they're on an equal standing while constantly showing that this isn't the case. This is especially grating because the show is always on about the black cat and ladybug miraculous being a set pair, yin and yang, destruction and creation, a balanced set meant to be put into play together. But only Ladybug is 'necessary' to deal with Akuma, which immediately throws things OUT of balance.

All they had to do was make it so that only Chat could destroy the object housing an Akuma, and only LB could cleanse them and do the miraculous cure. This way, both are equally required (and maybe this way wouldn't be constantly used as some inconsistent gag character sidekick), and are an actual balanced duo.
