A Call for Compassion and Action
LGBTQ refugees and asylum-seekers in South Sudan face unique and urgent challenges, including discrimination, violence, and exclusion from essential services. Forced to flee their homes due to persecution, they are often marginalized even within displaced communities or Camps, leaving them vulnerable and without access to basic necessities such as shelter, healthcare, food and protection.
We call on humanitarian organizations, governments, and local stakeholders to prioritize LGBTQ refugees and asylum-seekers in their aid programs. This includes creating safe spaces, providing targeted support, and ensuring access to inclusive healthcare, Education and mental health services.
Every person, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, deserves dignity, safety, protection and a chance to rebuild their lives. Together, we must stand in solidarity with LGBTQ refugees and asylum-seekers in South Sudan and work toward a future where their human rights are protected.
It’s time to act.
Compassion knows no borders.
In the shadows of East African refugee camps, where survival is already a daily battle, LGBTQ+ refugees face an even harsher reality. Stripped of the safety to be themselves, they endure rejection, violence, and isolation from the very communities meant to offer them refuge. Their identities become a target, their love condemned, and their existence erased.
This injustice cannot be ignored. These individuals fled persecution, only to encounter it anew in places that should offer protection. They deserve safety, dignity, and the freedom to live authentically. Let us raise our voices for those silenced, advocating for policies that protect LGBTQ+ refugees, providing safe spaces within camps, and ensuring their stories are heard. Compassion must extend to everyone, regardless of who they love or how they identify. No one should be left behind.

Advocating for LGBTQ+ Asylum Seekers in South Sudan.
The plight of LGBTQ+ asylum seekers and refugees in South Sudan’s camps demands urgent attention. Many of us face relentless discrimination, violence, and exclusion due to our sexual orientation or gender identity, even in spaces meant to provide safety. Limited access to healthcare, mental health support, and basic human rights leaves us vulnerable and invisible in already dire conditions.
We call on humanitarian organizations, governments, and allies to prioritize our protection, ensure inclusive policies, and provide safe spaces where we can live without fear. Solidarity and action are critical to uphold the dignity and rights of all individuals, regardless of who they love or how they identify.
Together, we can create a future of acceptance and safety. Let’s stand united for justice.
