Serious question: My beautiful wonderful absolutely amazing bestie has long covid and struggles to read these days, which sucks because they used to read more than anyone else I know. Audiobooks are still an option and they do enjoy those, but I have a copy of their all-time favourite, no-longer-online fic. I'd like to read it aloud as a birthday gift for said friend.

a) would that be weird? b) are you sure? Because I am a very British AFAB person, and the story is a very American male POV thing. c) does anyone know of any good free audio recording software that isn't going to give my voice to AI or similar?

This was absolutely untrue, Caes knew, but he could also see Cordia’s fierce, sharp eyes, focussing on the text on Sitina’s omnitool.

Cordia got motion-sick, and Sit wanted her to be able to read the writing. He wondered if there was some sort of nefarious reason behind it, but he could hear his dad in the back of his mind, toting out the trite old, It doesn’t matter what a child reads, as long as they’re reading something.

It was probably educational.

Caesus almost laughed aloud at that – post-war comms as his daughter’s first reading book. What a fucked-up life he was living.
