He had to admit, when Frankie stated that she trusted him Dominic’s heart swelled a little. She was either a very trusting person or she seemed to feel a sort of…spark like he did at the moment. Either way he was glad he hadn’t scared her off. When she came back after clocking out Dom smiled at the grin that was on her lips and held open the cafe door so she could get out of the bustling store. “Alright, so, it’s in Franklin so we have a bit of a drive. We could stop for food on the way if you want or we could get straight to the fun…and forgetting about everything else for a while.” As he spoke Dom lead her to his car, a 2019 Ford mustang in black that he had tried to talk his parents out of giving him, and opened the passenger door up for her. “The back is clean so your stuff can go there or in the trunk…whichever you feel comfortable with.”
She had found a gentleman. He held the door and was willing to carry her away in his Mustang. Her knight in shinning armor. Stepping out of the busy cafe, she waited for him, before he started to lead the way to his car, “Well, I am kind of hungry, which you’d think is ridiculous, considering where I work, but I’ll let you in on a little secret, the food there is not as great as everyone makes it out to be. They’re just brainwashed by what’s hip.” Seeing his car, her mouth almost dropped open. It was the nicest thing she had ever seen. Her mom drove an old, worn out Jeep Grand Cherokee that smelled like smoke and alcohol, “I can just put it in the back. And trust me, this car is way nicer than anything I’ve ever ridden in, so I think my stuff will be fine.” She laughed softly, before tossing her bag in the back and climbing in the passenger’s side.

Frankie was putting him on the spot here and it took a moment for him to come up with something. His mouth was open, ready to give her an answer, but his brain was in overdrive until something finally hit him. A smile came to his lips as he thought of a place he used to go to all the time to get away and blow off steam. “I think I have just the place in mind. But you have to trust me. Can you do that?” With his backpack slung over his shoulder, the boy gives her a a smile with raised eyebrows before holding out his hand to her. “I mean, as soon as your shift is over of course. We’ve got plenty of daylight left to enjoy the place.”
His smile made her both nervous and excited. He must have had something good in mind, and whatever it was, she was sure it would be a brand new experience for her, “I do. I trust you. I don’t think you’d steer me wrong. And anythings gotta be better than this. Just let me go finish up.” Walking away from Dom’s table, Frankie quickly finished up what she was doing, grabbed her things, and clocked out. Going back to the table, her face held a wide grin, “Okay, I’m ready. Lead the way.”
dominic--ford:
“Different isn’t always better.” The words slipped out before he could stop them. It wasn’t Dom’s goal to make her feel like her decisions weren’t the right ones, it wasn’t his place after all, so he looked up at her with a sheepish shrug of his shoulder. “I mean, it can be though. I hope it’s better for you.” He grins as she asks about staying in this spot, eyebrows raising as she starts to backtrack a little. Clearing his throat, Dom starts to pack up his things slowly. “Actually, I was about to leave before…I started talking to you.” He felt himself blush as well, the admission another slip of the tongue. “I think I need a break anyway. I’ve been studying for this exam for about three days now…if I’m not ready now I’m never going to be. What did you have in mind?”
She stopped and turned back around hearing him confess to wanting to leave. She had wanted to spend more time with him, just not here. She had spent as many waking hours as she could at the small cafe, and it was starting to wear her thin. A change of scenery was what she was wishing for, and he just happened to be the one to make her wish come true. Everything else he had said had gone out the door, and Frankie had just wanted something fun to take the place of the sadness that regularly loomed over her, “Nothing in particular...just fun. I need something fun. Between this place and home, I feel trapped. So if you know of any place...” She was leaving it in his hands. She had somehow found trust in him already just by how kind he had been to her upon their first interaction, and so many times she had wished for someone to come and take her away and here he was. Of course, she would need to put the coffee pot away and sign out from her shift first though.
dominic--ford:
“I’m sorry to hear that.” Dom bit down on his lip as he watched her fill his cup. He wasn’t sure if he could say his dad was hard on him per se, that was more saved for Dae on most days, but he did have some pretty high expectations for the youngest Ford. “Um, I think it’s more that he just expects a lot from me because my brother is a bit of…a family disappointment I guess.” He wasn’t sure why he felt the need to explain it all, she was a stranger after all, but it was out there now. Shaking his head softly at her question, Dom smiles up at her. “I’m good…unless you want to spend your break with a stranger or something. I could use some company.” Crossing his arms against the table, he looks hopeful as he asks. It wasn’t often that he asked someone to spend their time with him but for some reason Dom really wanted to get to know this girl.
“Thanks, but I’ve learned to accept it. Live with it, I guess. Besides, I’m saving up any money I can to get away from here. I just need something different...something...better, if that makes sense?” Things just seemed to come easily with this guy. She wasn’t sure what it was, but it was nice and well needed. She had longed a friend, and she was hoping it would be him. “I’m actually about to get off for the day, but I really don’t want to go home.” She glanced around the cafe, “Are you, um, tied to this spot or...” She started to blush, “You know what? Never mind. You’re busy...I don’t want to keep you from studying...” Frankie pulled the empty pot in close, before turning to walk back to the counter.
dominic--ford:
As soon as he had lifted his head and spotted the girl at the next table his eyes had been glued to her. Eyebrows raised slightly, out of shock or something else he wasn’t sure, Dom nodded softly when she had stopped talking if only not to look like a doof because he hadn’t heard a word she’d said- he’d been too busy taking in the site of her. It took a moment for his brain to sift through the thoughts of how beautiful she was to really process her words. “Oh, uh….yea, sure, I’d like another if you don’t mind.” In all honesty, he hadn’t been thinking of staying any longer until he’d seen her but now he couldn’t resist. But he needed an excuse for this behavior so that she didn’t think he was some kind of idiot. “Sorry…uh, my dad’s kind of on my case. I don’t mean to seem spacey…and…you can bother me anytime.”
Frankie had somewhat caught onto his expression, but didn’t pay it any mind. Instead, she went about filling up the mug with the remainder of steaming hot coffee that was in the pot. “No need to apologize. I just didn’t want to seem stalkerish or anything, hovering by your table...” When she had realized what she had said, Frankie blushed, “I mean...I’m sorry about your dad. My mom’s really hard on me, so I totally get it.” Her mom was borderline abusive, but somehow Frankie had managed to take it, and if this guy wanted to talk, she would have gladly talked just to avoid having to go home after her shift. “So do you need anything else? Cream, sugar...Day old pastry?” It was small talk, but it would suffice. At least she was being more friendly to the customers like her manager had asked her to do.
dominic--ford:
“No, dad, I haven’t seen Damien. I can’t help that he’s not answering his phone.” Dominic rolled his eyes at his father’s annoyance, honestly surprised that he hadn’t learned Damien’s ways at this point. His attention was caught by someone staring at him from the next table over before he could say anything else though and he quickly made an excuse to get off the line, looking over at the person as he put the phone away. “Sorry, I know it’s annoying to have to listen to a stranger’s phone conversation when you’re trying to enjoy your day.”
Frankie didn’t want to interrupt the man during his phone call, but she had noticed he had been out of coffee for quite sometime. Seeing the next table over needed cleaning, the young barista found herself wiping off the crumbs and coffee stains from the midday rush. The perfect task to do while he finished up his phone call. Looking up from what she was doing when he spoke, Frankie cleared her throat and spoke up, “I’m...I work here, so...I just wanted to see if you needed more coffee, but I didn’t want to bother you.” She sent him a nervous smile.

Dear Diary,
I don’t know how to keep my emotions in check at work anymore. It feels like the whole world is caving in on me. My friends, well I think they’re my friends, of course if a crazed gunman came in and started picking off people they’d probably throw me out first…that’s besides the point; point is: they’re starting to ask questions. I don’t know. Maybe it’s me. Maybe it’s me who makes her so mad. I try to do everything she asks, even when I just want to go to bed…I’ve gotta get out. But where am I gonna go? This is so messed up…
Crap. I’ve gotta go. The last thing I want is to be late for another job…
