FLOURISH AND BLOTTS: What book you read has had the greatest impact on you?

augusta longbottom was an avid consumer of muggle literature, when he was a child she often assigned readings to frank, though his he preferred when she would read with him, whether it be different books in silence in the study, or together in the library; both of them sharing a seat whether it a small armchair or sofa, reading the pages together, augusta slowly waiting for frank to finish the page before turning. that being said; his favourite book would be watership down, one of the books he read squished next to his mother. but the book that had the most impact on his would be the great gatsby, a book that was assigned to him when he was young but revisted during his teenage years- one of the many books he brought from home with him to hogwarts. on his second reading of the book he felt himself finally understanding the motivation of gatsby, while as a child he scoffed at the extravagance and lengths he’d gone to, to catch the attention of daisy. he’d been in relationships before, but he felt he finally understood what it felt like to do anything for the love of one girl. 

APOTHECARY: Is there something most people find disgusting that you personally don’t mind?

despite growing up wealthy and having the funds available, frank had the habit of holding onto things until they were well past broken and worn through. to this day he constantly wears his shoes thin, until there are multiple holes and he bare feet in his loafers are basically touching the ground, he might as well not even wear shoes. 

2ND HAND BROOMS: What’s the one thing you’re passionate about, and worked as hard as possible to make it happen/be good at it/etc.?

frank was an overly active child, with an especially active mind, wanting to consume as much knowledge of things as he could. from books to bug collecting, he liked when adults considered him smart and wanted to be an expert on many. 

riding a bike though was one of his favourite childhood joys, and then in turn riding his broom was the link that connected joy to school. he was dedicated to excelling at quidditch, working hard every year to make the quidditch team, honing his abilities and speed. quidditch was something he felt he truly needed to work hard at, not only for himself but for his teammates.

diagon alley shops and institutions ask meme

so! i wanted to create a lil ask meme for this roleplay, and i thought of doing it based on characters, but since more people are applying, i thought i’d wait a lil bit before doing that! however, i still wanted to do an ask meme, and therefore, i decided to create one based off shops and institutions in diagon alley (more for different areas will be coming soon! so, yes! here we go! ( they’re divided by where they’re situated. )

ABOUT FRANK

#1, CHILDHOOD:

money never crossed frank’s mind as a child. it wasn’t one that needed to. the concept remained foreign to him until he was far into his teens, only then grasping the privilege of wealth he’d been brought into. his father though ever set in his ways still worked long late hours at the ministry, sometimes being days on end where neither frank or his mother would see him. his mother despite being a stay-at-home mom, wasn’t really one to play around in the gardens or sit down for a game of “that ghastly” wizard’s chess. so frank was left to his own devices, which was just fine with him. free to race on his old bike down the long dirt path that stretched for miles without any muggle towns or houses in sight. or to explore the highlands with the family dog, bomi at his side. he loved to move fast, to feel the air push through his lungs. his favourite time of year was summer- summer meant no lessons from his mother, it meant she wouldn’t scold as much when he came home with his shoes worn and trousers dirtied with mud. it meant that his father would be home, and they could go to blackpool pier to visit uncle algie. where he can close his eyes and feel the sun on his face, the coolness of his feet in the water, sitting on the docks next to his father and just enjoying the weather. one of the few moments of stillness in his life that he could stand.

#2, HOGWARTS PT. 1:

he begged not to go at first. unwilling to leave home, clinging to the safety of the highlands. mother could continue to teach him (as much as he used to complain about her lessons), and how could he possibly ever get to sleep without bomi’s protection and presence at the end of his bed? though autumn came and he was tearfully dragged to the station and forced onto the train. smushing his round face against the window, watching his parents shrink into ants as the hogwarts expressed puffed away. it was a hard adjustment. a painfully socially awkward boy, who was very much used to running on his own schedule, who also inherited his mother’s sense of determination (or rather stubbornness) found himself struggling to adapt to a new routine, and with a strong lack of friends. when he returned for the winter break his mother nearly fainted at the sight of his marks. he pleaded not to be sent back. he hated school, everything about it. he was sent right back after the holidays though this time something clicked. finally, after so much seatwork and preparation, they would actually be getting on a broom and getting in the air. flying was incredible. felt natural. for a first-year who consistently tripped over his own feet, he was surprisingly efficient on a broom. it was freeing. the way the air passed through his lungs reminiscent of the way it felt when he ran through the highlands but elevated by a thousand times. soon there was buzz of quidditch tryouts and the eager (and perhaps a bit over-zealous) gryffindor first years began to prep and practice, frank amoung them, not only finding a place to fly more often, but also a group of kids to sit with in the great hall.

#3, HOGWARTS PT.2:

[ CONTENT WARNING: neurological disease (ALS)

the summer before fourth year caused a catastrophic shift in dynamic at the longbottom household. the longbottom’s revealed to their son that earlier that year, mr.longbottom had been diagnosed with lou gehrig’s disease (ALS). that summer frank drew in on himself. neglecting letters from friends, neglecting the broom that uncle algie had gifted to him when he’d made the second line of the gryffindor quidditch team, neglecting his parents for keeping that vital information from him for so long. he felt drained. the only reason he mustered up enough energy to pack his trunk for school was the need to get out. he needed to not be at home anymore, feeling suffocated, trapped- something he felt his first year away from home, something he never wanted to associate with his family. he didn’t participate in the first half of the quidditch season (though he had only been second line, so the impact on the team itself was minimal) and drifted through his classes to the concern of his professors. however, a gift one december morning appeared in the form of a tawny owl provided a coping method. gaeul, her name attached in the letter she brought from his mother, with instructions on what to feed her and when, and how to properly groom her and nothing more. he wrote to his father at least twice a month, even when there wasn’t much to write about. the owlery became a part of his new routine, a place of comfort. if you were looking for frank you could ask anyone- they would direct you to the owlery. once his grades were revived he was offered his old spot on the second line of the quidditch team and he gratefully took it. he needed a new normal, to focus on his own life instead of his father’s deteriorating one. writing his father the day after he played his first official game- one of the chasers out with a case of mumblemumps, was one of the highlights of his year. and the letter he received back from his father- the excitement and the pride contained inside, is a piece of parchment he cherishes to this day. END CONTENT WARNING: neurological disease (ALS) ]

HEADCANONS

[ TRIGGER WARNING: parental death **

his full name is francis but he absolutely hates being called franics, if someone other then his mother calls him it they might lose a tooth (though more likely he’ll just be a pouty bish about it) 

he adores animals, especially their family dog bomi, a sweet sheltie

he is so much like augusta it is not even funny, especially when she was his age. high-energy = high-maintenance with a habit of micromanaging that exhausts many of his friends and partners

he is a huge music dweeb, especially loving muggle music.

he is a repressor of all and any feelings, making it very easy for him to get into relationships and even easier for him to fall out of them 

for a long time he was in the dark about his birth mother- not that he didn’t know he was adopted because duh, but it took a long time to get the answers he wanted. his father being the one to pen them to him during his last years of school. he has never felt any reservations about his adoptive parents being his parents. this only further influenced his feelings on blood prejudice, feeling strongly that blood should not have any effect on a persons life. 

** it pained him that his father didn’t live to meet his grandson, that neville would never get to meet his grandfather but frank himself handled his father’s passing much more gracefully then he was expected to; he had the most support he could ever have in his life, and even when things got hard he could hold onto that family didn’t end with his father and that family extended far beyond blood ever could END TW: parental death ] 

he is a stickler for the rules (but also gets a bit of a nerdy rush when being included in any schemes to fuck shit up)

he is a serial napper, he can fall asleep anywhere. a n y w h e r e. 

while very friendly he is quite socially awkward, most people find it a bit endearing in a funny kind of way but frank really should go to see a muggle dentist because his foot in mouth disease is out of control and could be contagious.
