I'll Sit In The Dark With You
Requests: Closed
When requesting, please keep in mind:
I don't write smut
I mostly write with a female POV, so if you'd rather gender neutral, just let me know.
I may not accept it if your request is vague or doesn’t have enough details for me to work with
I'll only write what I'm comfortable with
At the moment, I'm only writing for the people I have lists for
A little while ago I said that I'd get back to writing Smosh fics again. But there has been a lot of stuff going on in my life that I had to really take some time and focus on. Also I'm finishing up college soon, so I'm just trying to get through assessments and stuff, lol. I was thinking about this blog and whether it was worth actually coming back, since the reason I took a break in the first place was because I burnt myself out and no longer felt interested enough to keep writing fics.
But I decided that I love you guys too much to do that and I feel like I've got a supportive little community here that I don't want to give up on.
So I am coming back to write Smosh fics again, but it might take a little longer to get back into it. I just felt like I had to let you all know what's happening and what I'm thinking.
I don't have any fics planned at the moment and I won't take any requests right now. But my ask box is open, so feel free to send me messages or general thoughts, and of course ask me about sharks :)
Hey, guys. I'm so sorry I was m.i.a for a little bit there. I had a lot of stuff going on, and then I've been off college for the easter holiday. The plan was to spend as much time as I could writing fics and catching up on requests, however in that process I accidentally burned myself out and I just didn't have any motivation to do that. So I decided to take the time to give myself a break. I hope you can understand that.
I also wanted to say that I might have found the confidence to actually write fictional character fics again (after like three years straight of writing Smosh fics, lol). I've been distracted by The Pitt and a certain hot older doctor may or may not have inspired me. So if you're at all interested in fictional character x readers, you'll find them on my main account @thislilmindofmine
I'm starting slow with that, though. So it might be a while before I expand to characters from other fandoms, which I will get to. I'm just working my way up, lol. Anyways, we'll see where that goes.
Also an update on the new platonic WIP I've been cooking up. The first part is almost done, it has a title and most of a plot. I'm working on it, so hopefully that should be posted soon.
Thank you for being so patient with me. I'm excited to get back into things :)

the amount of hate i have seen on fanfiction recently has got to be addressed. i have seen multiple creators recently from multiple different fandoms come forward with either sharing the hate they have gotten or leaving the platform because of the hate. if you are someone who hates on fanfiction you are the scum of the earth and hate joy and whimsy. if what a certain creator writes is not your cup of tea, that is okay. there are a lot of creators that i personally don’t enjoy certain works of theirs and some that i just don’t personally enjoy anything they create. i have however never sent them hate. i just scroll past or i block them. it is that simple to avoid something like that and it takes 10x less energy than if you were hating on them. if the creator is not actively harming anyone or going against a boundary set by the person they are writing fanfiction about, i don’t see why someone writing fanfiction is so bad. fanfiction is an outlet for a lot of people to express themselves and for a lot of people a place of comfort when they read them. there is fanfiction for quite literally every single fandom imaginable. it breaks my heart to see all these talented writers getting hate just for doing something they enjoy, and i hope that any writer who has left fanfiction writing due to hate finds their way back someday to a hate free space. please, be kind to each other<3
Hey, this is a little bit of an intro to my new platonic fic series. It's not fully fleshed out yet, but I thought I could at least introduce the main character. It's not an x reader, which is different for me, but I hope you guys don't mind that.
I'll hopefully have the first part out soon. Also, I have no idea how long this series will be. I'm just going with it :)
_________
Name: Leah Russell
Age: 21-22
Gender: Female, uses she/her pronouns
Sexuality: Straight
Nationality: English, French, but has lived in the States for about four years
Background: Born in England, she lived in France for most of her childhood, and when she was eighteen, she moved to America to live with her aunt and to pursue her dream of being an actor. Somehow, she ended up landing a job at a YouTube channel called Smosh, which she grew up watching. It wasn't what she imagined or intented, but it was the best decision she had ever made.
Personality:
Kind, booksmart, creative
Quiet, but opens up the more comfortable she gets
She loves board games and uses improv comedy as an outlet for her adhd
Crowded spaces and sudden loud noises overwhelm her
Hates being touched but would never say anything
Will talk forever with her friends, quiet around strangers
Almost never fully finishes telling a story
Former art kid
Cannot sit in a chair normally
Always puts others before herself
Sees the good in every situation, sometimes naively
Emotionally mature for her age
Extremely empathetic, it can be a problem, especially about inanimate objects
Physically 21, internally, probably 83
She's an old soul with a free spirit and an English accent
No rizz, just big brown eyes
Hobbies/interests: drawing, painting, crochet, reading, baking, photography, scrapbooking. She also has a dog walking business on the side
Her style:
Leah has two dogs; a six year old Blue Heeler/Australian Cattle Dog called Gabe and a four year old Staffie called Rex. They are her whole world.
Gabe is an independent boy but fiercely protective of Leah. He thinks he's a German Shepherd and probably is as tough as one.
Rex is the sweet baby who can do no wrong. He is easily spooked and is sometimes scared of people, specifically men, because he has a past of abuse.
Best Friend: Tommy Bowe
Tommy has basically been her big brother since she stepped foot in L.A. They met at an improv show, and he went, 'yep, that's my little sister now,' and he takes that role seriously. He is her No.1 hype man, and she is a quiet presence in his life that he didn't know he needed. They are the epitome of platonic soulmates.
Loosely inspired by a little more time by ROLE MODEL
You and Spencer are best friends, and he knows you better than you know yourself. After a breakup that makes you question love itself, what will happen when that friendship shifts into something more precious?
TW: Smoking weed but the author has never smoked before so she took her best guess, general breakup angst, deep seeded insecurities, use of Y/N
One call. That’s all it took to get him here. You hadn’t even really explained, just breathlessly sobbed on the other end of the line, and before you knew it, he was there. He showed up at your door, your favorite ice cream in one hand and weed in the other. He didn’t speak, didn’t pry, just wrapped himself around you while you cried.
He was good at that. For as long as you’d known him, Spencer had been the most thoughtful person you’d ever known. He knew all of his friend’s birthdays, sent postcards from all of his trips, and somehow knew exactly what you needed even when you yourself didn’t. You stepped back from the hug, then stuck the ice cream in the freezer and grabbed a lighter from the kitchen, before opening your balcony door and slumping onto the concrete.
“Door open or closed, Y/N?”
“Closed please. My cat doesn’t need to be any more traumatized than she already is.” He shut the door and mirrored your position across from you, legs intertwined. You lit the end of the joint and took a deep breath. You leaned your head back and exhaled the smoke, imagining it reaching the stars. “You got your own?”
“Nah, I just brought one, thought that you’d maybe like to remember the night.”
You passed it to him as tears started to fill your eyes once more. “Maybe I don’t. Maybe I’m tired of remembering.”
“He’s just a guy dude. You only dated for like six months.”
“It’s-“ you huffed out a laugh, which turned into a cracked sob halfway through. “It’s more than that though.” You watched the smoke swirl around the warped metal of the railing. “It’s everything.” Spencer paused before passing it back, giving you the space to answer. That was one of your favorite things about him, that he knew when to listen. All your life, people had been speaking over you. People thought you were quiet or shy, but you just needed time. Spencer always gave you that time, time to just be. Neither of you knew how long it’d been before you spoke up again, passing the joint back and forth until it was an ashen stub.
“I think I might just be hard to love.” You waited a moment, tracing Ursa Major in your head. The stars winked, like they knew something you didn’t. “I think I’ve always been too rough around the edges for people to handle. Not enough but too much all wrapped in one.” You sighed. “I’m tired, Spence.”
You heard rustling as you felt Spencer move until he was sitting beside you. You felt his gentle hands encompass yours.
“Y/N, look at me.”
You didn’t move, too focused on the stars dancing in the sky.
His voice came out rougher, “Please. Look at me.” You finally met his gaze, only to find tears in his eyes too. “You are everything to me.” His voice broke. “You have never been too much, or not enough, or hard to love. You are so easy to love, actually. Loving you feels like breathing.”
“Spence, you don’t have to say that just because you’re my best friend. I know you love me, we’ve been friends for years. I love you too.”
His grip on your hands grew tighter. He shook his head. “No, I love you more than that. More than whatever friends have. I’ve known since that day in the park. I know you don’t love me back, but you deserve someone who knows you inside and out, and even if I’m not allowed to love you like this, I need you to see that there’s someone who knows you. Even if-“
You tried to cut him off. “Spence.” He kept rambling, lost in his thoughts. For once he was not listening at all. You rolled your eyes. “Spencer.” He kept going. Fuck it.
“And I know that you’ll never love me back but-” you cut him off with a kiss.
Pulling back gently, you whispered, “Part of the reason my relationships didn’t go to plan is because I was too busy comparing them to you the whole time.” His face turned from shock into glee as he realized what had just happened.
He nuzzled into your hand where you had placed it on his cheek when you kissed him. “And also they were all dicks.”
“Yes sweetie, and they were all dicks.”
He flushed at the new pet name before pinching your arm. He grinned, “Just had to make sure I’m not dreaming.”
“I think you’re supposed to pinch yourself, not me.”
“Too late.” His smile grew wider. “So uh- wanna do that again? Maybe?”
“I think we should go put something comfy on and put on a movie.”
His smile faltered. “Oh, okay, movie time is good too.”
“Spence, I never said we actually had to watch the movie.”
“Oh! Right! Well, let’s go then!” He hopped up, hauling you to your feet. Before he had a chance to open the door, you wrapped your arms around his neck.
“Hey, you’re my everything too, you always have been. I wish I’d noticed sooner.”
His eyes softened and he placed his forehead against yours, murmuring, “I would choose to wait every time if it meant I got you now.”
“I love you Spence.”
“I love you too Y/N/N.”

A/N: The balcony scene has been stuck in my brain for a long long while (pre SVODP). Shout out to the girlies who have always thought they've been hard to love! Spoiler alert: you're not! Those are just the wrong people. Anyway, Happy New Year everyone!
Could u please write autisic, cast member reader x Spencer
Where Spencer buys reader a stuffed animal cuz he knows she’s going through a hard time and she loves it so much she brings it everywhere even while there filming videos.
I would love to! :)
I wish it was normalised to bring a stuffed animal everywhere
Please please please more autistic reader, I love resident shark girl so much! I see so much of myself in yn. Amazing amazing work
Aw, thank you so much! I appreciate it. I'm always wary of writing autistic readers since I'm not autistic myself, but I do a lot of research to hopefully make it as accurate as I can :)
Description: Y/n knows sharks and Spencer still knows her better than anyone.
Warnings: Feelings are felt and realised, y/n is oblivious and of course we are learning about sharks and other animals again.
Notes: Part 2 is finally here! Sorry for the long wait, I hope it's worth it. I had a lot of college stuff to deal with and then I was ill, so hopefully you can forgive me. Anyway, I have lots of other fun fic ideas, so be prepared for that :)
_______
Y/n didn't hear from Will for over a week until one day he texted her, asking to come over. She didn't really want him to, but assumed he just wanted to get his stuff. So she said yes.
She grabbed a box and went around her apartment, finding everything that belonged to him and put it in.
When he got there it was sitting by the door waiting.
He sighed. "Can I just say something?".
"What?".
"I've been feeling guilty about this and I... I didn't know how to tell you."
She tilted her head.
"Well, uh... a few months ago, I was out with some friends. And I was pretty drunk, but we ended up meeting some women at a bar and... one thing led to another, and I went home with one of them that night."
It didn't make much of a difference to their relationship since they were already broken up. But it was still like a gut punch.
"Oh... wait, you cheated on me?".
He nodded. "I'm sorry. It was a moment of weakness. I was drunk and she meant nothing to me."
She was quiet for a moment.
"I was hoping that maybe if I told you the truth, we could get past it somehow."
"I don't think so."
He frowned. "You're really gonna throw this all away?".
She shrugged. "You did it first."
She opened the door. "Get out. I don't ever want to see or hear from you again."
"Okay...". He trailed off, like he was about to cry. "Fine."
Grabbing his box, he walked out the door with a quiet, "Bye, y/n."
She shut the door, locked it and immediately blocked his number from her phone and all his socials.
In doing that, she scrolled past Spencer's contact and paused, wondering if it would be too late to call him. It was 11pm.
Before she could stop herself, she clicked on his name.
And it wasn't long before she was asking if she could come over.
She sat on his couch and after a few minutes, he joined her.
"So, what happened?".
"You were right."
He tilted his head. "About what?".
She sighed. "Will cheated on me. He was probably projecting."
"Oh... I'm sorry, y/n."
Sitting back, she leaned into the couch cushions behind her. "I don't understand something, Spencer."
"What's that?".
"If you supposedly love someone, how can you cheat on them?".
Pursing his lips, he shifted so that he could look at her. "I don't know, honestly. But I guess if you're willing to cheat, then you don't really love them."
She hums. "That makes sense."
"Are you okay?". His voice gentled as he spoke.
"I'll get back to you on that." She replied, unsure of how she was feeling at the moment. He nodded, accepting her answer. "Okay."
"Do you want a distraction?".
She shrugged. "I don't know. Honestly... I'm just tired."
"Well, you can sleep in my room if you want to. And I can take the couch here."
"I couldn't ask you to do that."
He gave her a small smile. "I know. That's why I'm offering. I don't mind, really."
She paused. "Are you sure?".
"Y/n, you're exhausted. Just take the bed, it's fine."
"Okay." She muttered.
_
In the morning, she woke up to the smell of pancakes. Curiosity dragged her out of bed. She didn't bring pyjamas, but slept in one of Spencer's t-shirts he let her borrow. She wandered into the kitchen, hair messy and untamed.
Spencer heard her come in and turned to look at her.
"Morning, sleepyhead." He seemed amused by the state of her hair. "Did you sleep well?".
She nodded. "As well as I could, I guess. Did you?".
He smiled slightly, affirmatively.
"I didn't know you could make pancakes."
He chuckled. "Of course I can. I'm not completely useless in the kitchen. Grab a plate. There's fruit, syrup and stuff over there."
He nodded at the kitchen island.
"Thanks." She said, taking a seat on one of the stools. In doing so, the shirt she was wearing rode up a little. She had shorts on, but Spencer quickly averted his gaze which she luckily didn't notice.
He made plenty of pancakes and split them evenly between them before joining her at the island.
"So... how are you doing?".
"Better than I thought I'd be, actually."
"Yeah?".
She nodded. "I don't feel sad or anything. Is that weird?".
"I don't think so. You did say you didn't really love him."
"That's true."
"Got any plans today?".
She shook her head. "You?".
"Not really. You can stay here as long as you want."
"Thank you, Spencer. But I'll be going home at some point. We can hang out for a while if you want, though."
He nodded. "Sure."
After breakfast, y/n washed the dishes which Spencer told her she didn't have to do. But she insisted and he dried them and put them away.
She was still wearing his t-shirt, which was slowly becoming a problem for him. It hung loosely on her, covering the tops of her thighs. It was especially hard for him to focus on anything else.
"Spence."
"Mhm?".
"You okay?".
"Hm... what?".
She chuckled. "Are you okay?".
He shook his head as a hint of colour creeped up his neck. "Uh...". He cleared his throat awkwardly. "Yeah. Sorry, I'm fine."
"Okay." She smiled. "I'm gonna get dressed."
He nodded. "Alright."
'Thank the lord' He had thought.
Later on, the two of them sat on the couch and watched a movie. It wasn't all that exciting, but certain circumstances called for a lazy Saturday with movies and snacks, and Spencer was more than happy to provide that.
Y/n had been deep in thought for a while, then looked at him. Feeling her gaze on him, he turned his attention to her. "What's up?".
She sighed. "Nothing."
"You looked like you were gonna say something."
"Well... no, it's fine. Nevermind."
He furrowed his eyebrows. "Are you sure?".
She nodded. "Yeah."
It was a weird intrusive thought she had. But she convinced herself it was just because he was being nice to her. Spencer was just a friend and nothing more. The thing was the thought never left and suddenly it was all she could think about.
After the movie, y/n decided it was probably time for her to go home now. Spencer walked her to the door. And she leaned in to kiss him on the cheek, although she didn't really know why she did that in the first place. It was worse when she accidentally got the corner of his lips.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry."
He luckily laughed it off and shrugged. "It's okay."
Her cheeks turned a light shade of pink, making him laugh harder. She hit him playfully. "Stop it, Spen."
He smiled, eyes sparkling in amusement. And the way he looked at her made her heart jump. Because it was the first time she noticed it, and suddenly she had that thought again.
He tilted his head. "What?".
"N-Nothing."
The stutter gave her away. She only did that when she was nervous and she never stuttered when talking to him. It concerned him immediately.
"Hey, what is it?".
Shit. "I... I have to go."
"Alright...". He trailed off, opening the door for her.
"Bye." She rushed to say before practically running to her car, heart pounding in her chest.
Spencer frowned, confused. But shut the door, figuring she just wanted to get home.
What if the thing that changed between her and Will was her feelings for Spencer? Maybe she didn't love Will because she was falling in love with Spencer.
When she got home, she found her shark plushie and sat on the couch, hugging it to her chest.
Spencer was her friend. Nothing more. She didn't have feelings for him, right? But she was pretty sure it wasn't normal to think about kissing your friends. And the way he had looked at her, he looked at everyone that way. Didn't he?
To distract herself, she put on a shark documentary. Which didn't do much ultimately, she just couldn't stop thinking about Spencer.
_
She didn't avoid him. Not exactly. But he definitely could tell something was up. She turned down hanging out with him one to one and cut conversations short. It was a little bit tense between them at the studio, which everyone else seemed to notice.
She was sitting with Courtney and Angela at lunch, catching up with them and making easy conversation.
"Hey y/n?".
"Hm?". She turned her attention to Angela.
"I've always wondered, what's the difference between a cheetah, a leopard, and a jaguar? I just kinda assumed they were all the same thing."
"Oh, uh... well, yeah, they look similar. But they're all different species. Cheetahs have a thinner body structure and have filled in spots. Leopards are a lot more muscular to be able to climb trees. They have rosettes that are quite small and close together and empty in the middle. Jaguars also have a muscular build, but they are physically stockier than leopards are. And they have a similar rosette pattern, but theirs are a bit bigger and more spaced out with a couple of small spots in the middle of them."
"Ah, that's so interesting."
Courtney hummed, also interested in the conversation. "Hm... what about crocodiles and alligators?".
She chuckled. "Crocs live in saltwater and have pointed snouts whereas gators primarily live in freshwater and have rounded snouts."
Angela was clearly fascinated. "It's so cool that you just know this stuff off the top of your head."
She smiled, getting a little flustered. "I don't know, it just... sticks in there."
In the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of someone entering the room. Even without looking, she knew it was him. Still, she risked a glance. He hadn't seen her yet and was just chatting with Shayne across the room. After a few minutes, though he caught her eye and sent her a small smile.
Unfortunately it had her stomach doing somersaults.
She was being so weird with him, yet he was still so nice and sweet.
Breaking eye contact, she went back to the conversation. But their little interaction hadn't gone unnoticed by her friends.
"So, what's that about?". Courtney asked abruptly.
Y/n sat up. "What? Nothing."
"Come on. You two have been acting weird for weeks. What's going on?".
"Fine, I... well, it's more me than it is him. I'm just kinda finding it hard to be around him just now."
Ange tilted her head. "What did he do? I'll kick his ass."
"No! No, it's not like that. He didn't do anything. I mean in the other way."
Court paused for a moment, then their expression lit up with realisation. "Wait, no way!".
Her cheeks flushed, shaking her head. "Please don't make this a thing."
"Oh, but it absolutely must, my dear."
Angela looked between them, confused. "What?".
Courtney giggled. "She has feelings for Spencer."
She practically let out a screech. "What?! You do? That's wild!".
Y/n groaned, hiding her reddening cheeks.
God, this was a long day.
After filming a couple of videos, y/n was at her desk trying to get some actual work done. It wasn't going all that well. She sighed quietly, unsure of how she was feeling. The joys of being neurodivergent.
Slouching, she rested her head on the back of her chair.
Then she heard someone clear their throat to get her attention and spun herself around. Spencer stood there and smiled slightly, holding out an offering of a cookie and a hot mug of tea in his other hand.
"You look like you could use a cookie."
Despite how her brain felt about seeing him, her heart missed his quiet presence and the calming affect he had on her.
The softness of his smile seemed to wash away whatever complicated feelings she was having for now.
"Thank you."
He left the two items on her desk, about to leave her be when she stopped him.
"Spencer."
"S'up?". He looked back at her.
"Have you got time to sit with me?".
His expression softened as he nodded. "Yeah, I do."
He pulled a seat up and sat beside her. She then opened the cookie packet and split it, offering half of it to him.
"You don't want all of it?". He questioned, half amused and half concerned.
She shook her head and he gently took the half she offered. "Okay."
A few seconds passed before he looked at her again. "You okay?".
She sighed, hesitating a little before deciding to be honest.
"... Not really."
"Wanna talk about it?".
"No."
"Alright." He accepted. "What about a distraction?".
"Yes, please."
He spun in his chair a little as he hummed, seemingly in thought. "What's your favourite kind of shark?".
She looked at him. "You know it changes."
"Then what is it right now?".
"Hm... whale shark."
"Why that one?".
"Well, I think they're kinda mesmerising. I mean, I find most sharks are. But the whale shark is different, they're almost otherworldly. Like they're something we were never supposed to find out existed."
He smiled slightly. "Will you tell me more about them?".
She tilted her head, confused. "You, oh... wait, it's a joke. Right?".
"What? No, why would you think that?".
"Well, I...". He's not Will.
She paused for a moment. "You really want me to talk about whale sharks?".
"Yes, if it'll get you talking to me again. I quite literally want you to talk about anything."
She frowned, feeling bad for how she'd been acting. "I'm sorry, Spen."
"It's okay. Just tell me about whale sharks and everything will be right in the universe again."
That got a little giggle out of her. "Okay."
"Whale sharks get the name from their size. They're about twelve to fifteen meters long. But they are not mammals like whales are, but as all sharks are fish it is considered the largest species of fish. They are filter feeders and can open their mouths 1.5 meters wide. They have three hundred rows of tiny, vestigial teeth which aren't used for biting or chewing. That's what gave them a reputation of being a gentle giant of the ocean. There's never been any recorded instances where a whale shark has attacked a human. Being filter feeders, they're not predatory animals and don't intentionally harm anyone."
She stopped talking when she noticed the look on his face. That look again. He had his chin resting on his palm as he listened to her.
"What?". She asked.
"Nothing, keep going."
She chuckled. "You don't have questions?".
"Okay, so... they're not related to whales at all?".
"No, they are sharks. They're just called that because of their size and share some similar behaviours. And I suppose because most whale species are considered gentle giants too."
"Have you ever seen one in person?".
She shook her head. "Unfortunately, no. There aren't many sealife centres in the world that have them because they are quite hard to care for. They have specific requirements. The one in Atlanta Georgia has one, I've never been there. I think I'd cry if I ever do get to see one."
"I think that's valid."
"I'd also probably never want to leave."
He chuckled, nodding. "I can barely drag you out of the one here."
She sighed quietly with the intention of it being under her breath. But Spencer noticed it and sat up a little.
"Y/n, can I ask you something?".
"Sure."
"Why are you suddenly so nervous around me? You never stutter when you talk to me. Did I do something wrong?".
"I'm not nervous, Spencer."
"Yes, you are. Want to know how I can tell? You haven't stopped fidgeting since I sat down."
"I stim with my hands. You know that."
He gave her a look. "Yes, I do. But I also know every stim you have and when you rub your fingers together like that it means you're nervous."
She couldn't do this with him. He knew her too well.
"You didn't do anything, Spencer." She finally admitted. "I don't think I'm ready to talk about it."
He sighed. "Okay, fine. But please don't try to push me away again. You can't get rid of me that easily."
She smiled slightly, letting out a short chuckle as he reached out for a soft, brief high five which she accepted.
It was only for a second, but neither of them were in a rush to take their hands back. Spencer ended up staying there a while longer than he probably should've, the two of them talking like nothing had happened. For now, everything was right in the world again.
But y/n kept catching herself thinking about things she shouldn't. Just like that day at his house, she stared at his lips while he was talking. She wondered what it would be like to kiss him.
"Spencer."
"Yeah?".
"I don't want things to change between us."
He tilted his head. "What would make you think that?".
She shrugged. "I don't know. I'm just saying I like it the way it is."
"Me too." He smiled softly.
"Did you know that a blue whale's tongue weighs as much as a fully grown elephant?".
He chuckled, shaking his head at the sudden change in topic. "No, I didn't. But it doesn't surprise me."
He seemed more amused than anything, attempting to hide his clearly endeared smile. Which she missed completely.
"Tell me something."
"Hm?".
"If blue whales are the biggest animals that have ever existed, how do you compare them to dinosaurs? I mean some of them were pretty big too."
She lifted an eyebrow, wondering if he was being serious. But she knew he loved dinosaurs.
"I can't believe you just said that to me."
He just shrugged. "How can you prove they're bigger than, say an argentinosaurus? Because they were supposedly the largest dinosaur."
"And blue whales are still bigger."
"But how?".
"Because they can exceed thirty meters and weigh over a hundred and eighty thousand kilograms. Which is twice the size and length of the Argentinosaurus. Their weight is comparable to more than thirty t-rex's or forty elephants combined. I just told you that their tongue is the same weight as a fully grown elephant. The closest comparable dinosaurs were the sauropods, but still none of them weighed as much as a blue whale. And that's not even considering the advantage of evolving in water, which allows them to overcome the gravity that restricts land animals."
He gave her a lopsided grin. "Okay, okay. You win. I guess that's fair."
Giggling, she rolled her eyes playfully. "Stop forcing the animal nerd out of me, Spen."
"Never."
He glanced at the time on his phone, then sighed. "I better go. I've got a video to shoot."
"Okay." She nodded.
"You wanna come with and watch? I think it's supposed to be chill."
"Hm... no, that's okay. I feel like my social battery is running low."
"Alright, fair enough. See you later then."
She watched him leave and sighed, knowing then she really did have a problem.
_
It was a few weeks later y/n was having a cosy night in. She had snacks, was wearing shark pyjamas, buried under an ocean themed blanket, weighted shark under her arm and of course, a documentary playing on the tv. It was one she'd seen a hundred times, but she didn't care.
It was a mini series about whales, currently on the orca episode.
She was in her safe space, a cosy little bubble where she didn't have to mask or hide the things she was into.
It was interrupted, however by a knock at the door. She paused the tv, furrowing her eyebrows. She wasn't expecting anyone.
With a reluctant sigh, she got up from the couch holding the shark in her arms.
When she opened the door, she almost sighed in relief to see it was only Spencer. The only person who was allowed to show up unexpectedly. Still, she was confused why he was here.
"Spencer, what are you doing here?".
He took one look at her pyjamas and the large shark plushie that was partially hidden by the door and sighed.
"I take it you forgot."
She froze. "Forgot what?".
He chuckled. "I've been trying to call you."
"I'm sorry, my phone is in my bedroom."
"We were supposed to go to the cinema."
"Oh! Shit, I'm so sorry."
"It's alright. No big deal. Don't worry, we can go to the cinema any time. I can see you're already settled, so I'll leave you to it."
She didn't mind if Spencer was in her safe space. He was part of it after all.
"Spen."
"Yeah?".
"You wanna come in?".
"Oh, I don't have to. I know you don't like people in your space if you haven't planned for it."
She paused, then pursed her lips. "It's okay if it's you."
He seemed slightly taken aback by that. "Really?".
"Are you going to make fun of my shark?".
"I would never." He replied genuinely.
"I'm watching a documentary series about whales."
"Of course you are."
"You okay with that?".
He nodded.
"Good, because I'm only on episode one and I feel weird about not finishing all of it."
He smiled softly, stepping into her apartment and shutting the door behind him. "Then what are we waiting here for? Let's do it."
The two of them settled on the couch. Y/n offered the other half of her blanket to him, which he accepted. They both were sitting a little closer than friends probably should, but neither of them noticed. She pressed play and snuggled back into the blanket.
Spencer glanced at her and smiled slightly to himself. He knew this was her fully being herself and he was honestly touched that she was letting him be here. Not that she wasn't herself anyway, but he was aware that she was masking most of the time in public. And unless someone asked about it, no one would ever know she was autistic. Spencer certainly wouldn't have. When he first met her, he had no idea. When her thing about animals came about, he suspected something but it wasn't until she started going out with Will that he knew. And that was only because she was having to mask with him too, so he supposed she had to let that energy out somehow.
He didn't want to disturb her peace, so he just sat quietly unless she spoke to him first.
She moved closer to him and rested her head on his shoulder, which was normal enough he didn't bat an eye. But it was only then he noticed that he had replaced the shark. It was over on the other side of the couch.
He furrowed his eyebrows. "Y/n, your shark is over there."
"His name is Bruce."
He chuckled. "Okay, Bruce is over there."
She shrugged. "Found something better."
He didn't say anything, but his heart melted and it was in that moment he knew he had to tell her the truth.
"Y/n, I need to tell you something. It's killing me."
Concerned, she sat up to look at him. "What?".
"I... I only didn't tell you because I knew it might change things between us and I don't want that to happen. But I can't keep it to myself anymore... I'm in love with you. I always have been. The last thing I want to do is scare you, but I needed you to know."
Her eyes widened in surprise since she had previously thought it was something medical. "Not a joke?".
He shook his head. "No. I'm completely serious. I'm in love with you."
She didn't say anything for a moment, but he didn't pressure her to answer. He gave her time to process it.
Then she looked at him, like she was looking for reassurance that this was real. He just nodded, not needing to say any words.
"Okay, uh... what do I do with that?".
He shrugged. "Nothing if you don't want to."
"But I don't want to hurt you."
"You can't, okay? I'm fine just being friends with you, that's enough for me. I just had to let you know how I feel."
"But I'm not."
"What?".
"I'm not fine with it."
He tilted his head.
"Sometimes I think about kissing you. I don't think that's normal to think that about your friend."
His expression grew amused by her outburst and he just chuckled. "Y/n, do you have feelings for me?".
She nodded.
"Then say that."
"I do have feelings for you, Spencer." She confessed. "That's why I was trying to distance myself from you for a while. It felt complicated and I didn't know how to deal with it. But I just missed you, so I guess that's when I realised it."
"Well, that explains a lot." He sighed. Then he looked at her. "Does it still feel complicated?".
"Extremely."
"Why?".
"I don't think you can handle all my sharks."
He smiled. "Is that a challenge?".
"I have a whole collection you haven't seen."
"I've been handling your sharks for a long time, honey. I think I can deal with a few more."
"It's not just sharks."
"I know."
"It's whales and big cats and elephants and dinosaurs and reptiles and dogs. A lot of it is prehistoric animals too-".
Reaching over the blanket, he took her hand and gave it a squeeze, gently interrupting her. "Hey, it doesn't matter. I can handle it, okay? Trust me. I know what I'd be getting into and I'm more than okay with it."
"Are you sure?".
"I've never been more sure of anything in my life. I've loved you for a long time and I don't plan on stopping any time soon."
She moved closer to him and put her arms around his neck. He paused, then put his around her waist to hug her back.
"I don't want you to hide any part of yourself from me."
She didn't say she loved him back, but he hadn't expected her to. He wasn't expecting her to even say she had feelings for him and he knew that was hard enough for her to feel. If she wasn't ready to say it, that was okay.
He knew she felt it. She did pick him over Bruce after all, and he was well aware of how much she loved that shark.
He kissed her head softly, which made her look up at him. He grinned at her confused expression. "What?".
Her eyes widened a little. "Wait... so, that's why you always look at me like that?".
"Like what?".
Her cheeks flushed a little before burying her face into his hoodie. "Nothing. Nevermind."
He laughed and she could feel the vibrations through his hoodie. Now she was going through all the moments she remembered catching him looking at her.
He hums, running his hand down her arm soothingly. "That you just figuring it out?".
"Maybe." She mumbled, making him chuckle.
"Well, thank you for finally noticing. Took you long enough."
Smosh fans have always hated change no matter how small. No better example than people complaining about Smosh Mouth not being around the Games table… Smosh Mouth DESERVES an actual set that isn’t just slapped together around a completely different set. Podcast set ups are very different than a set up for a board games video. You can really see how better the temporary set up is because it’s designed with podcasts in mind. I look forward to Smosh Mouth and Reddit Stories new more professional sets
Do you think I need to make my fic more general if I'm labelling them x readers?
I feel like I'm good at leaving out physical descriptions of 'y/n' so they seem general to me. But I guess I'm not the one reading them.
I know that I tend to write with a female POV in mind, and with the series' I've written they are definitely more character based and I've written fics that are more personal to me. I haven't seen anyone complain about it so far, but I'm just curious if it bothers anyone.
im a teenager obsessed with sharks and I’d like to say did you know there was a recent scientific discovery on sharks that when they smell blood they aren’t hunting their just investigating an most bites happen because they’re just curious :3 also my favorites are nurse and hammer heads ^^
Yes, I did know that! Most sharks are just curious, I love watching videos of divers with sharks just coming up and booping them 😅
okay firstly i adore your writing!!! brings a smile to my face every time
i also love that you know so many shark facts like i wish my brain was less of a sieve with knowledge lmaooo
speaking of! why are whale sharks not considered the same species as shark? i think u mentioned they’re just fish in another post but im curious why :3
have a great day :)
Hi! Thank you so much.
I don't really know how I know so many things about sharks. Honestly, I'm just an animal nerd in general and some species I have TONS of knowledge of and could talk your ear off. But some I don't. And one of them happens to be sharks and whales, lol
Also to answer your question, maybe I explained it wrong in that post (happens sometimes), but they are considered sharks. They're just known as the biggest species of fish. But it's the whale part that is kinda confusing because they're not mammals like whales are. They're just called whales due to their size.
But they are a shark species. Their skeleton is made up of cartilage, not bone and breathe through gills, like sharks. I hope that makes sense.
Also, also just in case anyone else is actually interested and wants to learn more (without being mean, of course), I'm more than happy to answer more asks like this (I'm not trying to get a degree in zoology for nothing, lol)
:)
