âVanity, in a fairy tale, will make you evil. Vanity in the real world will drive you nuts. Vanity makes you say things like âI deserved a better life than this.â
Career: Barkeep at The Leaky Cauldron
RUMOR HAS IT⌠She was meant to be the crowned queen of the family, but when her brother was born, all the light seemed to go to him. Sheâs been vying for the attention, but she just canât seem to get it right. In a final act of defiance, she chose not to take the Dark Mark as planned. Too bad her parents had already written her off.
Freya Travers was the firstborn of Octavius Travers, the high-ranking Secretary of Commerce at the Ministry of Magic. And for the first several years of her life, that was enough. As the heir apparent to the Travers legacy, she was practically a princess - endlessly doted upon, her days spent traipsing around the lavish estate that would one day be hers⌠That is, until the other spawn was bornâŚ
The only merit Leif Travers ever had the advantage of was being born male, but in the eyes of her family - and pureblooded society as a whole - that was the only one that mattered. Gone were the days of Freya being the ruler of her domain - her legacy snatched and given to another, less-worthy child. It no longer mattered that she was clever or quick; her value laid in little more than her beauty and her ability to become a delicate ornament her father could marry off like cattle.
It didnât stop her from trying to prove her worth, though. At Hogwarts, the young Slytherin felt more at home with the Ravenclaws in the library, and soon even surpassed them to become the top student in their year. She was a chaser on the house Quidditch team, a member of the Slug Club, and even became Head Girl during her final year. It was exhausting, tiresome work, and in the end, it wasnât even enough. Upon graduation and her acceptance into a competitive apprenticeship she only cared about for the prestige, her father announced that she âno longer needed to bother with that schooling thing,â as he has found her a suitable husband instead.
Freya, who had spent so long biting her tongue in hopes of winning approval, was furious. It was obvious there was nothing she could ever do to prove her merit, and she had nearly killed herself trying. Years of bitter rage exploded inside her, and in rebellion, she decimated everything she had so carefully built. She turned down the apprenticeship, refused the engagement, and became a lowly barkeep at The Leaky Cauldron. But most dangerously of all, she defied expectation and did not pledge her allegiance to the Dark Lord.
For now, her loyalty is to herself alone. Itâs dark times, and while the Travers name gives her some security, she knows itâs not enough. She occasionally feeds secrets she hears in the tavern to the Death Eaters in return for their favor, but will also do the same for the Order as she sees fit. In truth, she despises the Death Eaters for preaching the Pureblood ideals that forever made her second best, but in the end, sheâll side with whoever comes out on top.
BARTY CROUCH JRÂ â Barty was an oddball but he was easy to talk to, always willing to lend an ear to her problems. Freya considers him a good friend but knows that he is likely mixed up with the Death Eaters, thus she keeps her interaction with him these days to a minimum.Â
REMUS LUPINÂ â There were hardly any words spoken between the two, in fact, she can almost count the extent of their conversation on one hand. But she spent a lot of time in the library and so did he, it was easier to sit with someone who didnât talk then with someone who would.
BELLATRIX LESTRANGEÂ â Freya wouldnât go as far as to say that it was impossible to get along with Bellatrix. But truth be told, she couldnât quite grasp how anyone could stand to be in a room with the woman for more than five minutes.Â
