Finding a solo cup, she poured herself some “punch” and sipped it with an approving smile. Slipping between this couple and around the keg stand, Ferris spotted Steve Harrington seemingly alone on the back porch so--  she summoned her courage and sat beside him. It would be difficult to actually talk to him, what with the loud din of the party overwhelming her hearing aids from inside, but it was a problem she shared with most people so--  her hearing damage would go unnoticed until the bulge under her shirt gave her away. 

“Shouldn’t you be inside with Wheeler?” she asked nosily, looking around the backyard for signs of the princess of Hawkins but not finding her anywhere nearby. She hadn’t heard about the breakup and why would she've? She wasn’t friends with the IT crowd and it wasn’t like she was actually at school very often. Ferris looked back at Steve and offered him her cup, “Want it? You look like you could use some.”

Of course, she knew her mother was safer in the care home than she would be with Ferris, what with Ferris working nights at the diner, but all that pent up panic and suspicion came barreling down on her when she was admitted into the community room and she saw some monster of a man talking to her mother. The nurse said he was a cop, but Ferris never did trust any cop as far as she could throw them.

“Can I help you?” Ferris interjected when she reached the two on the patio off the community room.

               "  i  simply  do  not  vibe  with  the  couch  .  —-  no  ,  but  my  living  room  isn’t  big  enough  for  the  vr  shit  and  a  couch  ,  so  i  compromised  and  tossed  the  couch  ,  obviously  .  ”     her  question  pulled  a  laugh  from  him  ,  far  too  loud  for  the  little  restaurant  but  it  fell  without  his  permission  .     “  on  a  bed  !!     i  couldn’t  sleep  in  the  living  room  ,  it’d  give  me  massive  anxiety  .  ”     strange  things  gave  him  anxiety  like  that  ;  not  sleeping  facing  the  door  ,  his  back  not  being  to  the  wall  in  a  restaurant  ,  etc .     but  handling  the  fairly  moronic  people  they  had  to  deal  with  at  the  pizza  place  ?     piece  of  cake  !     vic’s  mother  is  the  sort  of  karen - esque  person  that  is  the  sole  reason  people  in  his  line  of  work  hate  their  jobs  ,  but  hearing  her  ,  seeing  how  to  react  and  how  to  deescalate  the  situation  for  over  twenty  years  ,  well  ,  it  was  second  nature  to  him  now  .     it  didn’t  bother  him  as  it  did  most  other  people  .     “  god  ,  no  ,  no  !!     no  ,  in  the  game  the  animatronics  are  big  ….  i  don’t  think  they’ve  even  made  the  animatronics  in  real  life  yet  —  i  mean  for  general  sale  ,  you  know  ,  i  think  private  people  have  made  them  somewhere  at  least  for  sure  .     —-  i  won’t  let  you  go  too far  ,  i  promise  !!     the  only  thing  that  bugs  me  out  about  vr  is  looking  down  ,  but  other  than  that  ,  i’m  fine  .  ”

𝐈𝐓 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐃        a little foreign in her ears but it was clearer than it would have been without her hearing aids and she liked the way it bubbled there; sinking in slow and thick until she was grinning and giggling lightly herself. She didn’t know why she thought what she was said was funny but when he laughed, she laughed. It was just--  responsive. Victor laughed, she laughed. Victor smiled, she smiled. He was contagious and she was infected by him--  badly. You might say she had a crush on Victor and she did, they were dating after all, but the crush had been there since her first day at Pizza Hut when Ferris was being yelled at by a customer and he swooped in, like a knight in greasy armor, and he fixed it. He calmed the irate woman down and got her the food and out of the restaurant all without breaking a sweat. He was just--  amazing like that. “You picked VR over comfortable seating?” she repeated with a smile, “No, yeah, I mean, right, sure. Of course,” she snickered shaking her head and biting into her burger again, using her sleeve for the bit of BBQ sauce that got caught on the corner of her mouth. There’s a blush blossoming on her face when Victor reminds her that actual animitronics for the game would probably be ten feet tall and highly impractical to own. “Right, yeah--  sorry.” She sucked down some milkshake before saying, “Um yeah though, I mean, that would be fun. I’ve never played VR so--  it’ll be--  cool.”

Shouldering her bag higher on her side, Ferris sighed lightly once finally free of the groups of student filing to their next courses. “Hey, um, hi, you’re on the Quidditch team, right?” she inquired looking down at her shoes them up at the other girl. “I was-- um, I was on the team at my old school and,” there’s a nervous clearing of her throat, “I thought--  I thought maybe I’d try out for this team. Anyway, I’m a little rusty and--  and i was hoping maybe you could run some drills with me? If--  If that’s cool with you?”
