It's August 2025. I'm listening to a podcast for 'The Roses' and only 10 minutes in Ben talks about Martin... how he's the funniest PERSON he has EVER met (and Ben clearly met a LOT of people since the last time he and Martin worked together 10 years ago, didn't he?). He mentions him twice and has to stop himself babbling too much about him by pulling a 'he's...yeah' to end it.

Sounds familiar?

Like again...after all these years. The only difference is that he doesn't have food to put into his mouth this time, and his female co-star sitting next to him is named Olivia instead of Tilda.

Nothing else changed...it's awkward and cute and heartwarming.

And the counter resets

A fan met Martin last night in London's West End.

So really my first ever Tumblr post (hi there everyone 👋).

Somewhere on the way between Sherlock, Johnlock and co I stumbled and fell deep into the Freebatch well and now I'm seriously stuck down here (but I love it tbh 🙃).

I'm currently going through the stages of denial, reconsideration and pure bliss, whenever my doubts are being proven wrong by these two lovely dorks.

The excerpt above from Setlock S3 is taken from the video including the famous interaction between MF and BC being ridiculously cute together (Martin fondling invisible dirt from Ben's collar and then both of them being all lovey dovey with each other at the front door of 221b - you know what I mean...)

This scene however happens shortly before and since I haven't seen anyone ever mentioning it, I wanted to share my observation:

While taking off his coat Ben is heading towards Martin, whose arm and hand are stretched out in his direction. Getting closer Martin is fiddling with his fingers seemingly gesturing to Ben. For me it almost looks like he's initiating this move to get him to hold his hand...

Then their fingers actually touch for a brief moment and while Ben is gently slapping Martin's hand away also mouthing something to him, Martin is pulling back his hand as if he had burned it on a hot plate (aka Ben's skin *cough*).

He then puts his finger to his nose in an almost embarrassed kind of way. Meanwhile Ben is walking past by and stopping in front of Martin to almost provocatively fanning himself air with his shirt.

Now, I don't know if anyone else sees this the way I do, but for me there's so much (sexual) tension happening between them in those few seconds, that whenever I'm doubting whether Freebatch is real or not, it brings me back on track and makes me a believer.

Especially considering the scenes happening merely after, as I've already mentioned above.

Please note, it's only my point of view and maybe my Freebatch brain is desperately playing tricks on me, but I've always wanted to share this ever since I've noticed it, because it's driving me crazy (in a good way, but still) 😅

I know I said I would move out. But I decided to stay. Sounds crazy, I know! This weekend was, quite frankly, insane. Even more insane than the first night I spent at the new flat. Turns out my maniacal flatmate is a consulting detective. I've never heard of that before. I think he made that profession up, or at least the title. At first, I thought he's just one of those hobby detectives, a facebook sleuth. Not a professional, just some arrogant sod who thinks he's cleverer than the police and hides behind a laptop. But he's actually capable, believe it or not. He was consulted by the actual police on a real murder case. And he solved it! Unfortunately, I missed his little adventure, couldn't record any of it. But he told me all about it. And honestly, what he told me was one of the most extraordinary and fascinating things I've ever heard. And I was a soldier in the army! Absolutely brilliant. I decided to stay. Also, because the flat is nice, apart from the insane and noisy occupant. And I didn't find another flat that's as good and cheap as this one. So looks like I'll be staying then! He might be a madman, but he's a brilliant madman! Maybe that makes up for all the craziness I've to put up with living with him. I promise I won't miss another one of his adventures. Got my microphone locked and loaded.

So, in A Scandal in Belgravia, we see this poster on Sherlock's bedroom wall, with Chinese (?) writing? Is there anyone in the fandom who can read it or already has and can tell us what the poster is about? (This is the scene after Irene drugs Sherlock). Please, anyone? Does anyone maybe know a Chinese speaking fan who could take a look?

Good question. The text is in Japanese; it's meant to represent a martial arts certificate, as Sherlock Holmes was canonically an expert in baritsu (a misspelling of bartitsu, which is a real Japanese martial art).

From The Empty House,

We tottered together upon the brink of the fall. I have some knowledge, however, of baritsu, or the Japanese system of wrestling, which has more than once been very useful to me. I slipped through his grip, and he with a horrible scream kicked madly for a few seconds and clawed the air with both his hands. But for all his efforts he could not get his balance, and over he went."

The actual certificate on the wall is shown only in passing, and apparently it has been identified as a judo certificate (some discussion of it here). I am guessing from that conversation that this was initially figured out on tumblr (not surprising), though the original post is probably long gone. I don't speak Japanese, but perhaps someone who does can confirm the content in this clearer pic from that convo.
