Finishing my rant by stating that I am willing to pay anyone who will pick up their pens and write 30k words of Maven’s first time with Tyton and Maven feeling insecure about not knowing what to do and not having previous experience, yet he’s trying to fake it, while at the same time he’s so so tense because he doesn’t know how to give up control and just surrender to the moment.

Coming up with more on Mavens sexuality 🧘‍♀️

Our society is so gendered to the point that expression of sexuality is also translated under gendered terms. An example is ballet being seen as a feminine sport, therefore all men in ballet are gay.

Cal is a perfect example of Norta’s masculinity standards for a Silver man: physically wise he’s strong, broad, tall and excellent in combat, mentally wise he’s quick to take decisions, interested in battle strategies etc

Meanwhile, Maven grows up feeling inferior, being humiliated in physical combat trainings, is more interested in the arts, has what are considered feminine traits (quiet intelligence, talent for manipulation) and physically wise he’s more lean, less strong,less bulky.

AND SUDDENLY HE FINDS OUT HE ALSO LIKES MEN. There’s no way he doesn’t struggle a little bit with it, in the way that he already struggles with feelings of inferiority and insecurity and suddenly he finds out another « weakness » of himself, another flaw that has to be fixed and another sign that he doesn’t belong with his peers etc etc

I wish Maven’s feelings about his sexuality were explored more in the books.

We know from BT that Silvers frown upon same sex relationships because their powers are supposed to pass down to their heirs (or did I make this up?). But at the same time, it’s not a major conflict in Norta.

I feel like being attracted to men and Red people may not be such a big deal for Maven, since he struggles with healthy attachment,love and healthy relationships as a total. So maybe he doesn’t think « this is a mistake » when he’s attracted to red people or men, because he’s so scared of attachment that his sexuality and his preferences don’t matter that much to him.

I also headcanon Maven as a person who is uncomfortable with desire,not because he’s prudish or he doesn’t feel it, but because he feels vulnerable and that vulnerability makes him feel ashamed of himself and weak. So shame and desire go hand to hand for Maven. He also is terrified of losing control.

Thomaven thoughts

To reference another post of mine, I think the power dynamics present within Mareven's book one dynamic are present even within Thomaven's relationship regardless of how young Maven was or how pure his intentions were. I don't think Maven was manipulating Thomas, however it's silly to act as if the power dynamic is absent. Maven is still a prince and Thomas is just an average red boy. Maven being younger than him or vulnerable with him doesn't erase that there is an incentive for Thomas to say and do whatever makes Maven happiest in order to maintain his own safety.

Once again, even if Maven would have reacted normally to being rejected or pushed away by Thomas, that doesn't erase the fact that Thomas has no way of truly knowing this. In Maven's eyes Thomas was the greatest person there was morally, and maybe he was, but there's also always the chance that Thomas was on his absolute best behavior around Maven because Maven has a very heavy amount of power over him.

And this difference in power is shown in Thomas' death. We don't know much about what happened, but we do know that Maven's life was prioritized over Thomas.' This singular detail is enough, in my opinion, to suggest that the power difference was very present in their relationship and heavily influenced aspects of it.

That all being said, we know only what Maven has shared regarding Thomas, but Maven is extremely unreliable so I think it's fun to consider the possibility that maybe Thomas was just doing what he needed to do and saying what he needed to say to make Maven happy. At the end of the day the only thing that really matters canonically is that Maven loved Thomas and felt that Thomas cared about him.

something i love about maven's character is how conflicted he is both externally and internally.. wants to be in control but constantly controlled by someone else throughout his life. yearns for approval and love but alienating others away from him. feeling guilty for what he's done but not guilty enough to stop. adores his mother but being haunted rather than comforted by her voice. the most powerful person in norta but powerless when it comes to his feelings. thinks his brother would be inadequate as a ruler yet constantly feeling inferior to him. throws lavish parties for fellow silvers but feels empty and hollow inside. unable to dream, but often losing himself in memories and fantasies imagining what could have been. he cares, but it's never enough to save him; loves, but it's never hidden enough to escape his mother's marring; lives, but it's never bright or good enough to feel accepted and adored

Maven/Tyton post WS AU in which Maven, after receiving treatment ofc, returns to Archeon for some kind of official event. Tyton is assigned as his guard because people still don’t fully trust Maven yet. They are immediately drawn to each other, but both mistakenly assume the other dislikes them, so there’s constant tension and sarcasm and fighting.

Over time, they begin to grow closer despite their arguments (maybe Tyton is witness to Maven being vulnerable at some point and he starts to care about him) until the tension finally breaks and they hook up. Last but not least, they get caught by Cal, who completely freaks out.
