the thing about fruit flies is that in the abstract, they live peaceful and irreproachable lives nibbling on overripe fruit and its attending microbes, but practically speaking they awaken some sort of primordial rage within me. Get off my bananas you little fucks
Don't get me started about fungus gnats. Get off my plants you little fucks.

While people deserve to be paid for their labor, the nebulous "they" simultaneously convinced us that we had to monetize our hobby writing* or we were contributing to people not getting paid for their labor.
Heaven forbid someone wants to write* publicly for love of the process and finding folks with similar interests.
Now we're inundated with newsletters and blog posts written like marketing copy in order to fit as many affiliate links as possible, and those of us who just want to read and yap on the internet without being accosted by ads and sponsored "content" are screaming.
This can apply to any type of creation, digital or physical.
I keep crocheting squares. I don't have any tangible plans for them. They're just nice to make. I can do a couple on my lunch break, or several while I'm watching TV. They're not "post-worthy," but I feel like that doesn't matter so much here. Tumblr feels like a cozier space. Folks ramble about whatever they're currently interested in, and it's not ninety percent marketing copy. I've been on Instagram for a long time, but it doesn't feel like home anymore. Here, I feel like I can talk and post about spinning and weaving, but also books and technical editing.
This itty bitty purple one is my favorite so far.

Autumn is here!
I will never not repost this.
“A child/student/young person asked me how to do X why does nobody get taught anything these days!!!” It’s you, buddy, you’re the teaching, this may legitimately never have come up before, why do people think education is exclusively some kind of abstract preemptive measure, most importantly done by other people so the rest of us only get the benefits and don’t have to do the work. Sometimes the person who is going to teach this is you. Fucking step up

DON'T ASK YOURSELF "AM I A GOOD PERSON?" ASK YOURSELF "IS WHAT I AM DOING GOOD?" OR EVEN! "WHAT'S A GOOD THING I CAN DO RIGHT NOW?"
DON'T WORRY ABOUT JUDGING AND SORTING YOURSELF! JUST MAKE YOUR BEST CHOICES!!
Ok but pls actually do this people. There is no such thing as a good person. Stop trying to be one and starting trying to do good instead
okay quick question for my widely understood anglophone cultures moots
were you people raised thinking "in this essay I will", "the aim of this essay" or "this essay will" is an acceptable thing to write in an essay
American school system, 1989-2001: yes but only in elementary school. By middle school you were not supposed to do that anymore.
american private (catholic) school. "the purpose of this essay is" was verbatim required on our 8th grade research papers and the high school english teacher was on a career-spanning crusade to get the 8th grade english teacher to knock it the fuck off
Extremely small US Midwest public school. When we learned to write expository, persuasive, and narrative essays in third grade they were already telling us not to ever say "In this essay, I will..." because it's redundant. Say what you're going to say. I'm just now finding out there are folks who were taught to do just that.
Where's that post that's like "I can't buy expensive things like plane tickets on my phone, I have to use my laptop, big purchases are for the big screen"
Because apparently this is a literal actual thing that retailers hate cuz you think more before spending a lot of money, they want you to spend a lot without thinking about it so much
Source
Keep buying Big Things on the Big Screen, it's healthy for you financially to think before spending a lot of money!
Wait until they find out I boot up the whole damn desktop for it...
Autumn reminds me that some things have to fall for new seasons to begin.

Oh HELL YES! We love you @jstor!
If all goes well, I intend to release the Seashells legwarmers, my first ever knitting pattern on Ravelry on thursday. I am quite nervous. And excited.
It is by no means cheaper to craft your own clothes btw, it's just that every piece is special and dear and well loved, and every time you wear or clean them you feel all the work you've put into them
