Can everyone who makes video content do a Deaf bitch a favor? Watch your shit with the captions on and the sound off, and then do another round of editing to fix things including but not limited to:

Captions cover the spot on the screen you put the information I need

The dialogue is captioned but not the song you have playing that the dialogue is responding to

You only captioned the person on the screen, not the person off screen who is also talking

No captioning of critical sound effects (alarms, bells, dogs barking, etc)

Speakers are not labelled at moments where it is not clear on the screen who is talking.

Captions cover the spot on the screen that you put the information I need!

We always have to bear in mind when reading media and the scientific literature on body shape and health (e.g. abdominal fat and insulin resistance) that science is ideologically embedded, and in the global north that means embedded in imperialist white supremacist capitalist patriarchy. Anti-fat biases are racialized, gendered, and classed. While it’s true that there are some risks associated with certain bodies—not only people who are larger in the abdomen (which is natural for many populations from the global south) but also shorter life span in tall people, skin cancer in redheads, osteoporosis in thin people, and so on—the risks and bodies that become stigmatized, that are used to fearmonger and to manipulate people’s behavior, are the bodies of the oppressed. I also think that the strength gap is at least partially manufactured women would in fact be stronger overall if little girls were encouraged to do physically taxing games and activities and eat their fill while they’re growing vs having to constantly diet and be sedentary indoors (or god forbid do intense cardio while under-eating). I think what made me the happiest about the Kendrick v Drake beef was that for a moment there, we were all listening to rap as rap is meant to be listened to.
