Curls had come to the planet after a few weeks, not to join, but to see what the stars her friend was up to. Maybe she could talk some sense in her before she became more Pearl than Lapis. The greeting, while warm, was not promising.

“Um….one rock?” That sounded pretty lame, though still not as lame as the ‘meep morp’ that scary powerful Lapis showed them before. At least her friend wasn’t still dancing.

“Sure, why not?”

The look on Curls’ face was...not so reassuring to her, but she’s sure to turn around after seeing the meep morp! She knows it! “Come on!” She takes her by the hand, leading her to the ‘art’ class section, as Steven calls it. Meep morp is a better name for it. “I know it’s not...as big as all the stuff we’ve been doing for thousands of years, I know. But it is fun! Trust me. Steven was right!”

She had her own area, her ‘studio’ they call it, where she had done quite a few works already. Most of them...pretty abstract and crude, since she was doing this for the first time. But she slowly started to get the hang of it!

One work in particular was from a large slab of blue slate (not kindergarden of course. No Gems were harmed in the making of these meep morps). It was carfully chipped and molded in the motif of the two of them! Not...exactly detailed work, but still the best she’s done so far.

“What do you think? Honest opinion. Steven told me that criticism builds growth.”

“Lapis?! Oh my gosh, you actually decided to come too?! Amazing! This planet will be twice as much fun now that we’re together again, right?!” Freckles was acting like it has been eons since they last saw each other, but really...it’s only been a few weeks, right?

“Oh, you have got to try this new thing I’ve learned from the school! It’s like terraforming, but smaller and with a single slab of rock! It’s like that meep morp stuff that other Lapis told us, but fun! Lemme show you!”

Nice Lapis I was just saying what is your opinion on fusion because if you someday are interest in fusion the Crystal Gem Garnet would be happy to teach you.

𝚏𝚛𝚞𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗 ——  short  breaths.  “ tsk ”  sounds.   tightly  clenched  hands. fist-like  gestures.    pointing  index  finger.    running  hand  through  hair.   rubbing  back  of  neck.   snarling.       revealing  teeth.   grimacing.  sharp-eyed  glowers  with  notable  tension  in  brows.    shoulders back  ,  head  up   -   defensive  posturing.    clenching  of  jaw. grinding  of  teeth.   nostrils  flaring  /  heavy  exhales. squaring up to a threat. coiled with tension. sensitive to space being intruded upon.

“A day of merryness… bah, I don’t do merry.”

Well, that was some bit to throw out. Jasper took her role seriously. And being honest, it was very messed up that she learn that the rebel Rose was Pink Diamond all along. And how things are now, with Steven and such, lots of gems have lost the purpose they once had. Freckles is fortunate enough to think she could find other stuff to do...but with someone like Jasper...and in a way Curly...it’s not that simple.

“Huh...I guess in a way that makes sense. But I still done see a Quartz like you as useless.” She seemed so happy and eagered when she though she was here to fight....maybe...

Glancing back down, she looks at the snow, and remembers something those earthlings like to do with the stuff, bundle it all into a ball and throw it at each other, like war. Maybe...

She scoops some up and with a smile she shout! “Hey, Jasper. Think fast!” And hurls the ball of snow at her face. She wants to fight, she’ll give her one! If it make her happy!

Her smile fades as she relaxes her pose. “Curious? So you are like those other Little Homeworlders, coming out here to see the useless Jasper.” She gives a snort and batters the buzzsaw with the back of her fist.

“Was it worth it? Coming to see the outsider?” She growls, turning her back to sort her bolder pile. “Or you want to try and invite me down to the city like the Steven does?”

Seeing she wasn’t gonna flatten her, Freckles also relaxes, only to flinch when she broke down her meep morp. It wasn’t her best, sure, but she was still proud of it!

“What? Hey! I never said anything about ‘useless’! Who is even saying that?” Clearly not Steven. Right. But then, why is she out here all alone? There must be a reason?

“I don’t know! Look, Steven told me that today is a day for making Marys and such...I think...I’m still unsure what it meant. But I do know it’s a day that makes them happy! Don’t you want that as well?” So clearly yes, she was basically inviting her back down to the city. It would beat simply chucking boulders around, right?

She smirked at the blade and cracked her knuckles. “So, you want to spar?” She asked, eyeing the buzzsaw and rolling her neck. “Be warned, I don’t hold back.” 

She looked the smaller gem up and down, she didn’t look like much… but then so did Lapis and she sent her flying with a single blow last time they met, so who knew how this would turn out.

Spar? Wait what?

“Whoa whoa whoa, no! I didn’t come here to spar!” Perhaps a threatening buzz saw might not have been the perfect meep morp to go with. She needs to get better at those. “I was just a little curious about who was up here is all!”

It was true, and there was no way she would go up against a Quartz, let alone The Jasper! She doesn’t think she would take no for an answer though, and simply braced for what would come, covering her gem at least so it won’t crack!
