My hottest Total Drama take is I actually like Scott and Courtney

The truth is the real reason we don’t like them is because we’re still salty about Courtney and Duncan. Were Courtney and Duncan amazing in island? Of course they were! I know that better than anyone! When I was a kid and grounded in my room I would recreate the entire Basic Straining episode with my stuffed animals. I love them! But the fact is that Duncan does not deserve Courtney.

Courtney is infamously the shows punching bag but all of her biggest tragic moments in the show besides one are centered around Duncan. Her unfair elimination in island was because Duncan bullied Harold, her elimination in action after one of the best performances we have ever seen was because of Duncan, she is treated as the butt of the joke in World Tour after DUNCAN CHEATED on her, not completely him but she was once again eliminated unfairly because Duncan manipulated and voted her, she is literally gaslit in All Stars with Gwen saying that she didn’t even do anything wrong and that her and Duncan weren’t dating when he literally cheated on her, and finally her elimination in All Stars is her worst moment but Duncan had nothing to do with that. Not saying all her problems derive from Duncan but it was just something I had to point out.

The thing about Duncan and Courtney is that they could never work as a serious couple and Courtney makes it very clear that she takes her relationships very seriously. Duncan is very attracted to Courtney and wants her so bad when he’s NOT dating her but hates her when they are. That’s because she’s very different when dating, she takes the title of boyfriend and girlfriend seriously and isn’t going to treat a fling the same as a boyfriend. Duncan wants to be treated the exact same which just doesn’t work. Could they have written it in a way to where they could be endgame? Yes, but even at Action it’s very clear that they are never going to work. It is also very weird because I feel how Duncan treats Gwen in All Stars is how Courtney would be fine with being treated… but Courtney just never deserves happiness I guess. Courtney wants her rules to be followed, it’s her way or the highway, and who absolutely loves taking orders? Scott.

I am also such a big fan of Scott. After 2 master manipulators in the first 3 seasons it was fun seeing a villain with a different strategy. I also think it’s funny because besides Trent, Courtney is the one with the biggest history of trying to lose on purpose. It’s something we see in Survivor all the time and whenever Total Drama adds more Survivor elements I’m always a fan. Scott is just so funny to me and I truly adore him. One major thing I would like to point out about them is Scott is the one to initiate a relationship with Courtney. Duncan never actually asks Courtney to be his girlfriend or uses like official titles. Which we know is something Courtney takes seriously. I think it means a lot that Scott does a whole little thing to ask her to be his boyfriend with an official shoelace ring and all immediately after accidentally (though happily) kissing her. He knows what he wants and he goes for it. Another thing is of course what is Courtney’s favorite thing? Bossing people around. And what does Scott love? Being bossed around. That was Duncan’s least favorite thing! He wants to be told what to do and he wants to do it well. Duncan in Action thinks he can handle all that but can’t, Scott wants to be handled by all that (shamefully giggled at myself while writing that). He is a little stupid with the Cam kissing thing but I just blame All Stars’ bad writing.

I think the dislike for them revolves around two things. Love for Duncney and the bad writing in All Stars. Some day I would like to start a big “fixing All Stars” post and one of those things would definitely be Scottney. Most importantly I just would have given them a happy ending. I do think they still have a good chance because Scott is still interested even after she ‘betrays’ him. I mentioned it already but Courtney is done dirty throughout the whole show and while I would’ve preferred to give her the win in All Stars the second best would’ve been at least a happy ending, not whatever her elimination was. There could have been improvements but their relationship was still more healthy than her and Duncan’s. They will always have a place in my heart but I am glad that they are not endgame.
