Ready for Action

Freddie “Death149” Venezia

This painting was created 100% with traditional paintbrushes. The artist was inspired by the Superman of his you. A time back when Phone booths still blanketed every city landscape and Clark Kent always had a place to change. This piece does not have the characteristics of today's computer generated comic-books and that is totally intended by the artist.
Shell Head
24"x36" Acrylic on gallery wrap stretched canvas
Freddie “Death149” Venezia
For sale: $650
The artist used both traditional paintbrushes and airbrushes were used to create this piece. The artist wanted to paint a point of struggle with this piece and capture Iron Man in a vulnerable state. This piece is a real stand out painting for Freddie Venezia as it very intentionally plays with a limited pallet.
Freddie Death149 Venezia... Need I say more!?!
Eternal Green Light
16"x20"x.5" Acrylic on gallery wrap stretched canvas
Freddie "Death149" Venezia
For sale: $150
This painting was created in front of a live audience at the artist's solo show in Hollywood Florida with acrylic paints and traditional paintbrushes. This piece is different than any piece currently for sale by the artist in many ways. Freddie regularly fuses subway art and superheroes, but this piece approaches the subject matter from a different angle. Absent, is the highly referenced rendering of iconic individuals, stylized to paint the characters in a different light than accustomed. This painting is of a relatively unknown Abin Sur, from an obscure 1959 Green Lantern book. Abin perished in that appearance but only after creating the Green Lantern. Freddie continues to breaks his pattern by painting a postmortem bust of Abin Sur, purely from memory and infusing traits of his graffiti "mugs", a highly unusual thing for this artist. Freddie felt free to take artistic Licence with Abin only because of his obscurity. As important to the DC universe as Sur is, even many superhero fans would be at a loss if only shown his face due to his lack of appearances since his 1959 debut. He did however make an appearance recently in the Green Lantern movie of 2011. It is highly likely, you will never see another painting of Abin Sur and even if you do, it will not be as unique as this one.
The Dark Knight
24"x36"x.75" Acrylic on gallery wrap stretched canvas
Freddie “Death149” Venezia
For sale: $650
This painting was created 100% with traditional paintbrushes. Neal Adams was the inspiration for this piece. Even vent though it is entitled Dark Knight which is a far more violent chapter in Batman’s story. The artist resurrects a less gritty Batman of the 60s and 70s when political consciousness was creeping its way into DC comics. This was a poignant time in the artists life when politics were new to him and these stories helped shape his early politics.
The Death of Old York
24"x30"x.75" Acrylic on gallery wrap stretched canvas
Freddie "Death149" Venezia
For sale: $500
Both traditional paintbrushes and airbrushes were used to create this piece. The painting signifies the death of The gritty New York City of the artist's youth and sterile gentrified version taking its place. It exemplifies everything creative and unique to NYC being replaced by white washed big box corporate Americana. The artist is getting ready to incorporate more Graffiti into some of his upcoming superhero paintings.
King of New York
11"x8.5" Pen and ink on paper
Freddie "Death149" Venezia
For sale: $150
This piece was created for a type of art competition known in the graffiti world as a "battle". It was a battle among peers in the group or crew known as NYK or "New York Kings"... It won the battle. Because it was created for a battle, this piece is armed to the teeth, and affirms the artist's commitment to succeed or die trying. Failure was not an option. While Super Smend took Freddie's evolution a step further by reintroducing superheroes into hiss work, if not for this piece reuniting Freddie with his Graffiti roots none of the work to follow would have happened.
Golden Girl
24"x36"x.75" Acrylic on gallery wrap stretched canvas
Freddie "Death149" Venezia
For sale: $650
The artist used both traditional paintbrushes and airbrushes were used to create this piece. This piece holds special meaning to Freddie. As a champion of women's rights, Wonder Woman is near and dear to the artist but especially now that his daughter Brooklyn is approaching womanhood. Wonder Woman can be seen in a sensual light but yet remain powerful. Her virtue is beyond reproach but there remains a sexual tension that cannot be ignored.

The author still owns the book though it has fallen apart from so much use.
BKLYN
12"x4"x2" Acrylic on gallery wrap stretched canvas
Freddie "Death149" Venezia
For sale: $150
This painting was created 100% with traditional paintbrushes. Near to the artist's heart, Brooklyn is not only his favorite place in the world but also his daughter's name. The artist is the man he is today because of the city of Brooklyn. This painting came at a time when he was grateful for the borough's influence on him. It was the resurgance of his graffit roots that he had put behind him for years to practice commercial art. This piece is not meant to be framed. The sides are painted as if it were a 3 dimensional object. Even though they are not pictured, the sides of the canvas are almost as important as the front.

Freddie "Death149" Venezia

Web Head
24"x26" Acrylic on gallery wrap stretched canvas
Freddie "Death149" Venezia

Airbrush was the only tool used to create this piece. The artist often likes depicting colorful characters on black and white or subtle gradations of gray to create a more dramatic effect. This piece utilizes a fish eye lens type effect to further intensify that dramatic feel.
Super Smend
11"x8.5" Pen and ink on paper
Freddie "Death149" Venezia

This piece was created in homage of a friend of the artist named "Smend". It was part of an art exchange between the two artists, each doing the others name. Freddie wanted to integrate the "S" on Superman's chest with Smend's name for a unique twist. This piece came at an important point in Freddie's life. Superheroes, cartoons and graffiti had long been an intregal part of the artist's life but this piece was the catalyst for many painting to come and cemented the next chapter of the artist's carreer.
