R-a-y b-a-n glasses anniversary, only this day!
Agriculture in South Carolina was very exhausting. Master Will would force us to work long hours about 14-16 hours in his fields. His fields were very large and contained the main house, slave quarters, and the black smith’s shop. The labor work was very life draining and many slaves would get...
Oh My this is terrible. I heard that the conditions in the south had been getting worse and worse but this is more than I ever imagined. How can one person work in the hot beating sun for 14-16 hours ?!!? This is brutal and deadly conditions that you work in I am very sorry. It is so different up here in the northern colonies. People everywhere in town, trades going on and new people always coming in. The weather is alright , sunny days in the summer and cold in the winter as they should be. And the sickness you people have to deal with is horrifying. You guys are living in a word of torture and I wish i could come and help you. I hope things don't get much worse and if you o get away sometime, please contact me I will gladly help you out, stay safe!
Hello everyone. Again, I apologize due to the lack of posts. But lately, I have been physically exhausted all the time, and I cannot seem to identify the exact cause. It may be for a few reasons. First, it has been rather humid out lately, as summers up north usually are hot. But I have lived in...
Hey Anne, first of all congratulation on the great news of the baby. I remember the time when my wife and I first found out we were having a child. We were thrilled but at the same time nervous. The weather tends to get hot in the summer and my wife has told me to let you know that it is best for you to take some time off of the labor and get rest until you deliver the baby. Also when winter comes do not go out in the cold, stay rested and heated. Everything will be fine as long as you are the one that is resting. Although that maybe be hard with everything thats going around, I think if you ask your husband to assist you like i assisted my wife , everything will turn out wonderfully. Best of luck on the upcoming baby and if you have any question be sure to ask my wife and I, we are glad to help you!

ATTENTION NEW YORKERS, in attempts to acquire control, the British are striving to attain greater command and control over our colony. This year of 1774 has brought with it a grander abundance of boycotts and protest among our people, as we hope to maintain our own style of living. Unfairly, we...
So this is what all the fuss around town has been about! I've been getting stories all week long from my parents back in Pennsylvania of rumors spreading and here in New York too. This is absurd! It is our colony and no one should be able to gain control over the land we have lived in for years, we made this land what it is today and I don't believe it is right for the British to come into our land to gain control. I completely agree with you that we should fight and that we should protest this nonsense. This is our land and no one can tell us and dictate how we live, we need to protect our homes. Another thing, why are we getting taxed with the numerous amounts of Acts occurring. This is total chaos and it will either end very badly or in our favor. All we can do for now is stand up for our land and be united as one.
Pssssssst, don’t tell anyone about this but apparently there is a rumors going on around about a big meeting happening. I’m still in New York City but my parents back home sent me a letter about how things were very suspicious back home in Philadelphia. Apparently there is suppose to be a secret meeting and the other colonies are coming as well. I think the word is being spread here in New York too. Everyone is unusually quiet and acting very doubtful. I did spot some new people walking around town. Everyone was staring at them when they walked by and no one had any idea of what was going on.
My family back home also said it has something to do with something other country in Europe. I do not have full information on the situation. One thing i know for sure is something big is going to happen I don’t know if it will be good or bad. Everyone in town knows its coming, but no one knows when. All the colonies try to keep secrets from their citizens but words spreads around quicker than they expect it to. People stop working and focus and try to solve the situation by themselves, but that is when things go wrong. Whatever happens I just hope it doesn’t kill us all but let’s all pray its something good for us. Shhh don’t tell anyone else about what you just read on here, remember its a secret between just the two of us.
Helloooooo , New York !
In 1773. Hey guys, guess what I'm moving!! Recently I got a call from a German Speaking Christ Church in New York City. I needed a change in my daily life, I was bored of preaching in the same places in town of Pennsylvania. Yes I had the freedom of religion and I had the privilege to help other on their path to their connection with god, but I was tired of the same routine. So I was preaching in the town of Lebanon in their town church. I was talking to the crowd gathered in the church and after I was done I was approached by one of the citizens about another preaching opportunity in New York and I decided to message the Church and they replied and invited me to become a part of their clergy.
My family and I are currently moving and my wife recently had our second child. John Muhlenberg, my first child and Sarah Elizabeth Muhlenberg. My wife Catherine and I decided it would be a new start for us if we move to New York. Everything is different yet still the same. The job opportunities are more diverse and there is still trading and town are still very populated. One difference I noticed was that there aren't many Germans or Scott-Irish's here unlike in Pennsylvania. It's different but I enjoy it here. My wife and I are going to settle in pretty quick and try and start making new friends and begin a new life here. I'm very excited for the move and if any of you guys want to come meet me I'm now in New York, not Pennsylvania.
It is October 15, 1771 almost a year since the biggest event occurred when I was ordained, but I am sorry I lied. Today was truly the happiest day of my life, I married the love of my life, Catherine Schaeffer. She is the daughter of the well-known Philadelphia sugar refiner David Schaeffer. We had spent months together seeing each other and I always passed her in the morning when I went to the church. Today both of our families got together to celebrate this new chapter in both of our lives. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces here attending our wedding out of everything they could be doing. We danced, sang and told stories to one another, we told memories while making more. It was a splendid time for my wife and I and it was a day we both will never forget.
The future for both of us will be very different. I will be working everyday helping others in their lives by the teaching of the lord. Catherine on the other hand will probably be working at home cooking dinner and keeping the house clean while also taking care of the garden. We both cannot wait to have kids of our own, population here in Pennsylvania is a big thing. We are one of the highly populated colonies that is also diverse with Germans and also Scott-Irish’s. Today was a day I shall never forget and one I shall tell my children when they do grown up, thank you to those who attended my wedding and sent me gifts!
I'm a minister !
Something life changing has just occurred today, and I want to share it with you all. Recently I gave my first sermon on October 7th, 1770 and it was unbelievable. It was an incredible opportunity, and the fact that so many citizens in the town came to hear me was flabbergasting. I have never been accompanied by so many people before ever in my life. Today the next step in my life was accomplished when I was ordained by the Pennsylvania Ministerium as the minister of Lutheran Church (October 25, 1770). I have been trying to accomplish this goal since I came back from by studies in Germany and finally the day has come.
I can now join the rest of the people in Pennsylvania all around who are offering to teach others about the wonders of god. Here in Pennsylvania, we believe in the freedom of religion and we chose our own path to go on. Now I get the honor to help others get on the same path as I am on, help them get the support of god that they need. Now others can join me and follow me as I lead them to succeed in their lives with god by their side. No more confusion between what religions to believe in, I Minister Frederick Muhlenberg will you teach you the right beliefs of god. Well I’m off to help others in Pennsylvania I will be sure to get back to you later!
Ah, home sweet home. Today I’ve finally came back to the land of Pennsylvania after seven long years. At age 13, I left here with my brothers John Peter Gabriel and Gotthilf Henry Ernst, and we traveled to the mystical land of Germany. When we lived in our town of Trappe, we did come across a numerous amount of Germans but for once we actually had the experience of living as foreigners in their German land. At 19 I decided to attend the University of Halle, and I decided to study theology, since back in the Americas everyone was trying to sort out the religion problems.
So I’ve finally finished and I’m back, after all these years, it’s so great to be in my hometown again. So much has changed, before I left everyone was trying to settle down and find their future, being a farmer was the number job. Now all I see is boats everywhere and trades happening everyone, new being spread as soon as it comes out. It is so great to see how many new people have arrived here in Pennsylvania, in fact I saw a group of some men that I went to school with. When I went to Germany they helped me get used to their culture and now it was my turn to return the favor. Well I’ll have to go for now, I’ll catch up with you guys later!
