We spent Memorial Day Weekend at West Baden Springs Hotel in French Lick, Indiana. I am a huge lover of everything Art Deco, so I was in Art Deco heaven. Also my grandmother and my great-grandmother both worked there in the late 1910s to the 1920s.

People flocked there from around the world to drink “Pluto Water” from the natural mineral springs there (and you can still catch the distinctive scent of that same water when walking near the creek there). Modern analysis showed that, besides having strong laxative properties, the water also contained lithium. So people were coming to shit and mellow out, evidently. It used to be bottled and sold (30 cents for a bottle at any drugstore) but 1971 when lithium became prescription only, it was taken off the market.
