Ahed Tamimi was recently taken from her home in the middle of the night by Israeli forces following a video of her standing up to Israeli soldiers went viral.
Shortly afterwards, other members of her family, including her mother, were abducted as well.
The dialogue surrounding the video is nauseating and headache inducing, with many saying โwell, what do you expect to happen when you hit a police officer??โ or other similar drivel.
That is not even remotely a valid comparison.
Prior to the video, Israeli forces shot her 14 year old cousin in the face with a rubber bullet, knocking him into a coma. It was this action that Ahed was involved in protesting in Nabi Saleh. Following the protests, Israeli forces entered her familyโs private property. This is where the video that went viral begins.
So rather than ask โwhat do you expect to happen when you lay your hands on the police?โ, ask yourself what YOU would do if a soldiers of a FOREIGN army [Nabi Saleh is Palestinian territory that Israeli forces routinely raid, confiscating land & natural resources and providing support for nearby illegal Israeli settlements] entered your private residence and refused to leave. Would you invite them to stay for some tea?
If foreign soldiers entered your home following decades of ruining your life and livelihood, are you expected to sit by and do nothing? She is a hero for having the courage to shove those two Israeli cowards out of her home.
Americans are all about ~honor and pride~, all gung-ho about self-defense and guarding whatโs yours. i donโt believe /anyone/ reading this would sit idly by and allow foreign soldiers free entry into their home, especially not when these same soldiers are responsible for the harm and death of so many people you know.
And for her courage, she has been arrested, with Israeli ministers saying she should โspend the rest of her lifeโ behind bars.
Ahed is the face of Palestineโs future. Israel has spent years and years, billions of dollars, and innumerable man-hours in an attempt to shape the future of Palestine, in an attempt to dissuade our youth from having the courage, strength, and resilience to stand up to their terrorism and occupation. Ahed Tamimi is living proof that, once again, they have failed. So long as Israel illegally occupies our lands, there will be resistance.
So long as Israel attempts to erase us, heroes like Ahed will continue to rise up and humiliate these IDF cowards.
I had the privilege of meeting her father several years ago and hearing many of his stories first-hand. He discussed his familyโs long history of resistance against Israel, and itโs their ability to unify and inspire so many that has led Israel to crackdown on the Tamimi family, year after year.
$10.1 million of US taxpayerโs money a DAY spent funding this army, and the best they can do is arrest a 16 year old in the middle of the night for humiliating their soldiers.
